Oh my god I have been living in Houston texas my whole life and the mall is SO DAMN BIG! It is amazing and it has almost every single little thing you need. It's so huge and you could get lost there. As of 2010 there goal for the mall is to move up from 7th largest to 3rd there adding a whole new big section and it is just huge. I love HOUSTON!!!
Fuckin nostalgic! I used to live there! Right around that area, on Westheimer, there is a cross street called Yorktown, I used to live in the Creole Apartments located there. I would go to the galleria with my girlfriend at least 3 times a week, like 5 minutes walking distance. Good times, will never forget it. Thanks for posting! :)
Ok I live in Lufkin, Tx and come to Houston quite often for shows and whatnot! When the hell did Houston get hovering signs?! and how the hell do they work?
@StylistecS Yeah, it's not the absolute densest area in the city, but it's still a pretty fun place. If only Houston had a nice heavy rail system in place.
@mpope409 The Houston area GDP has been consistently larger than both Dallas' and Miami's (and Atlanta's too), so I don't think it's crazy to say that.
@AlvinHDavernport Yes, but GDP doesn't really have a direct correlation to shopping. DFW has a larger market, and there's a wider variety of high end items there.
Houston is a great shopping city, but I just don't know that I'd say it's better than Dallas or Miami.
@mpope409 If you consider that Houston's per-capita GDP is also higher than Miami's or Dallas', and Houstonians are more affluent on average, which is where I was going with the GDP figures. Also, having lived in both Houston and Miami, I can safely say that Miami doesn't hold a candle to Houston as far as shopping goes. The Galleria blows anything in Miami right out of the water. Atlanta's Buckhead District might be the only true rival to Uptown Houston in the South, IMO.
@AlvinHDavernport If having a bigger mall automatically equals better shopping to you, then I guess you're entitled to your opinion, but again, Houston doesn't really offer anything the others don't.
When it comes to high end retail in particular, it is Houston who doesn't hold a candle to the other two. Not when Dallas is pulling in major luxury department stores like Barney's New York. And Bal Harbour, in Miami, is an icon of the fashion industry.
@mpope409 No need to start making loose assumptions here. I never said The Galleria was better than anything in Miami because of its size. Sawgrass is bigger than The Galleria, and did I ever give you the impression that I like Sawgrass more than The Galleria? As to high-end, well, we could be here all day comparing specific examples, such as the fact that Houston's Lamborghini dealership is the country's main Lamborghini dealership, but seeing as you're bent on belittling Houston...
@AlvinHDavernport I love Houston. Why would I want to belittle it? I'm just not going to sit here and call it the Shopping Capital of the South when I know better. People will say anything on YouTube, without really knowing what they're talking about.
The only real question is, what can you find in Houston that you can't find in Dallas or Miami? You would be hard pressed to find a great deal of people who would say that Houston is the best shopping city down here. C'mon, now.
@mpope409 And as for Bal Harbour, well, to each his own I guess, but I wouldn't want to change The Galleria for Bal Harbour, ever. Not in atmosphere, not in any aspect. And again, it's not because of size, which still is a factor that undeniably helps Houston's case.
I used to live in Bellaire, but I moved last summer to florida. I miss Houston so much and would give up everything I had to go back. I plan on moving their after college. If you are ever able to do a tour of Bellaire, PLEASE DO IT! I reminisce so much and please go on Chestnut Street as well it's off of Bissonnett. I miss Houston so much.
Well done, Click. Those circular street signs that appear to be floating above the major intersections added a nice touch to an impressive area. Thanks for the tour.
Awesome vid! I love Uptown Houston, and to think it's probably at only half its total potential in terms of size and vibrancy. One day, all of West Houston's gonna look like West LA.
Neat stuff--I always wondered what that part of town looked like, I used to work at Marriott reservations and put a lot of people into the JW Marriott...
Am I seeing things--are the traffic light poles and most of the streetlights polished chrome?
Thanks for the Videos, they really mean a lot to me. Hopefully we will sell our house soon and be able to get back to the great state of Texas, and that beautiful city of HOUSTON!
This district is somewhat similar to Atlanta's Buckhead district. I can't say I agree with Houston's method of planning (or lack thereof) with allowing highrises wherever since it decentralizes the inner core and spreads the city out. But, I do like how the Galleria has an urban feel to it instead of taking the usual Southern approach and buildings massive paved parking lots. I LOVE those illuminated signs! Thank you for this and your great info!
@CosmoPhotography I, on the contrary, think deregulated planning can be good. This uptown district is a vibrant, cosmopolitan, and very beautiful area with lots of beautiful buildings that would otherwise be, literally, the middle of nowhere. Boring strip malls, endless suburbs, and uninteresting architecture. Well, maybe that wouldn't be this specific case, as Uptown Houston is surrounded by really beautiful and livable neighborhoods (especially to its north and west).
im glad everyone has enjoyed the video . i have recently got alot of messages with requests asking if i would spent some time of streets y , ive been filming some of this accordingly , which you will see more of this occasiionally in future video's.
yall's galleria is ridiculous, it's the same floor plan as lenox (here in ATL) but waaaay better.
