The choir, led by Michael Belnap, professor of vocal performance at BYU-Hawaii, included 52 students — music majors and non-music majors alike — representing many of the countries that make up the university's student population.

We love being with our missionaries. Because they were prepared, they were immediately able to turn their attention to helping others. They were never concerned about themselves. They were concerned with those who need help and by mid-morning the day of the earthquake, we were able to dispatch them to help others. We told them to investigate the needs of their neighbors and help in any way they could.

As is usually the case, LDS are the most formally dressed of any congregation in Northern Nevada. Suits and ties and dresses are always the dress of the day, and, as usual, I came in underdressed, with slacks and a sweater. Hunter wore white socks with his dress shoes and no tie, and Joy wore slacks. I simply have to make a mental Post-it regarding this fact. I didnt notice anyone take note of our apparel, though.

One of the things that touched me the most about what Elder Bednar shared was that he said that a lot of people think that an apostle's main duties are to speak at conferences, attend weekly meetings, and administer the affairs of the Church. He learned the first week after he was called that the keys of the apostleship are to be used in ministering to the "one", just as the Savior did. That is his main responsibility...This applies so much to us as missionaries also." How neat.

She was headed for a damaged orphanage in Port au Prince to try to rescue 130 homeless little orphans.

Ian S. Ardern, a former principal, spoke of when President McKay stood at the pulpit and in tones of gratitude and humility dedicated the school. He asked those in the auditorium to close their eyes and listen to a few of President McKay's words on that early autumn day in 1958.

It was a poignant moment when former recipients of the Dux and David O. McKay awards stood and were recognized once more. There was one last graduation as former students walked down the aisles dressed in white gowns, as Maile Keung Tarsau spoke of the trades and professions CCNZ graduates have entered into.

Brother Hayes made arrangements to visit the family in Baghdad and learn more about their circumstances. He found a family dealing with a host of difficulties. The three Salman children with dwarfism (two girls and a boy) — ages 13, 9 and 8 — were all in need of surgeries to remain healthy, mobile and reasonably independent. Mr. Salman himself was partially paralyzed from a gunshot wound he suffered fighting years earlier in the Iraq-Iran War.
