@jsh020 FF producers beginning to rely a bit more on the graphics as the main point. Also, they are changing a lot of things rather quickly than it should be. After all, this is a series isn't it? It's supposed to bring the stuff you love from previous entries but add stuff to them at the same time. FF has been changing a bit too much which is what has a lot of fans hating them. Also the story seems a bit wierd too like this part (IMO it felt rushed).

Hope will try to use the time travel device for himself, in order to save his mother. Maybe a future Hope will be the villain. Would be epic. We NEED a "future" self of a main char as a villain anyway for XIII-2 or it won't be as epic as it could.
Hope's mother IMO was a highly annoying characer back during the short amount of screentime she was given - what a lousy time to endulge in a midlife crisis!?
I should have explained - Deciding to fight dispite being a widow (if I remember right) and single mother in a war torn environment - having a child ment she had that bit more then others and also, your life is no longer entirely your own once you become a parent.

Remember that they needed another person, Hope is hardly a tiny child (he's 15) and if she dies he's actually in the safest place possible. It's not her deciding to be a "hero", it's her protecting those who matter to her.

On the flip side, had she just waited they all might have died because Snow would have died, then Hope wouldn't have followed. I never realized who it was who acted as Hope's voice but now that I know, whenever I hear him say mommy as I child I can't stop hearing Phineas's voice.
Even though this game wasn't my favorite of the series the character interaction was absolutely superb. I played through anxiously awaiting scenes like this one.
@CheesyGranola A lot of the time when in a situation like this, anger will redirect, especially when the person in question can't confront the actual cause of their anger/pain. Hope is like fifteen, on top of it- he's just a kid. He got caught up in the start of what was a barely-disguised massacre, saw his mom die, got caught up in a situation he wanted nothing to do with, got turned into the one thing he'd been taught to fear and hate, now is worried about his own fate- which isn't looking

Finding someone to blame turns into actually blaming turns into hate turns into /snap/, which is what you see here.
@thaneros its might be the best charecter development in rpg's in general, it sure beat some other ones where their either just relay bland or act exactly the same throughout te entire game, if youv ever played a game called mas effect its a example of it. the charecters follow every cliche ever and just randomly change at a moment just to progress their storyline, like "oh now i love you make love to me" or "im mad at you cause you did this plot point we pulled out our ass 5 min ago"

@TheShonePizza I think that's my favorite part about his character. He's so big and powerful, but he's really a very gentle and kind-hearted person. Yeah, he likes a good fight, but he's a pushover when it comes to anyone he cares about and incredibly protective. He's a very 'light in the darkness' type of character in a lot of ways.

His mom died in front of his goddamn eyes, apparently he's doomed to become crystal or become a zombie like creature, and he's going through a lot of emotional bullshit that it kind of make it reasonable for him to act depressed and/or whiney at times.
God, in this scene he is even more whiney, emotional challenged and fucking bitchy than Cloud Strife.
In that scene where everyone gets knocked out of the airship above Gran Pulse, the only thing I was thinking was “Please, fall to your death, Hope, you fucking whiney brat with a girl’s name!”
He thinks he is SO hard done, even though he still has his father and the rest of the main cast are orphans, one did not even KNOW his parents and the orphans became such a much younger age.
He JUST Lost his mom, Snow never met his parents, but he at least had time to cope with the fact.

He JUST Became a L'cie, an now everyone in his hometwon hates him, and its destroy his hometown and turn to crystal or die,
And in this scene, he finally developes the strenght to get out someones thats been buging him since the whole time he was with snow. He has a right to complain!
All the other characters were in a far worse situation than Hope. Hope knew what it was like to have a mother to love you, Snow did not. Hope’s story is nothing but a sexist (the mother dying with a son who hates his father) and cliché piece of rubbish. Speaking of which, he had no right to hate his father. He is also selfish.
Hope knowing what love from a mother is, and than losing his mother is worse than not knowing what motherly love is at all. And Hope wasn't selfish, his dad DID neglect him, and Hope didnt hate his Dad, his dad Hated HIM! Get the story right, first of all. 2nd it didnt focus on Dajh's mother in the story at ALL I think it was just mentioned, and Wtfmum- hating writers, THIS IS THE SCENE where it proves what a character would do for his mother! My advice to you: get the story right!

It would also balance out the ‘youngest/shortest character gender’ in “Final Fantasy XIII”, as it really annoyed me that the youngest/smallest character of each ‘group’ was male: the Main Cast had Hope, NORA had Maqui, and Sazh had Dajh.

There are a lot of people who hate Hope, and I think that's sad. He's just a kid and he's going through a lot. I can certainly understand him, and I like that he realizes that the only way he can do any good is to get stronger. He learns to survive, and so I like him for that. :)
God. I haven't had a chance to play FFXIII yet, but this cutscene is an example of why after all this time I still love the franchise. And JRPGs in general. To me, WRPGs aren't all that story driven; they're just gigantic sandboxes with RPG elements. Without characters who feel--even if its to the point of angst--I just can't understand why I should be playing an RPG. Everyone says they hate Hope for being a "crybaby," but I've got a better word for it: openly emotional.

FF9 is phenominal and mafia 2 is very underratted but kinda short, try picking up a game called wild arms 2, i bought it for the ehll of it but then it completly surprised me and turned out to be very good
@TheAbridgedGamer wild arms is one of those serise that goes downhill after a couple of games but the first 2 are defently worth checking out, 3 is a gamble and 4 and 5 arent worth it,
also check for a serise called grandia, i personaly HATED the first game but alot of people loved it(which ive not seen one legit reason to enjoy it other than "its light hearted" but back to point i hated the firts but the 2nd and 3rd games are 2 of the bets rpgs ive ever played but they get alot of hate

Wow, just realized that Hope's pose while being almost shot is extremely similar to his mother's when she died. Wow.
Hope is perfect here. You can't not feel sorry for the kid. And if I were Hope, I would have stabbed Snow right when he burped.

I should have explained - Deciding to fight dispite being a widow (if I remember right) and single mother in a war torn environment - having a child ment she had that bit more then others and also, your life is no longer entirely your own once you become a parent.

Remember that they needed another person, Hope is hardly a tiny child (he's 15) and if she dies he's actually in the safest place possible. It's not her deciding to be a "hero", it's her protecting those who matter to her.

@LittleLadyAya Well, and as "readers" we know that everything will work out for Hope, at least at the start, but Nora might have thought that by fighting she was protecting her son. On the flip side, had she just waited they all might have died because Snow would have died, then Hope wouldn't have followed. I think it's too hard to say whether or not it was the "right" thing to do.

@CheesyGranola A lot of the time when in a situation like this, anger will redirect, especially when the person in question can't confront the actual cause of their anger/pain. Hope is like fifteen, on top of it- he's just a kid. He got caught up in the start of what was a barely-disguised massacre, saw his mom die, got caught up in a situation he wanted nothing to do with, got turned into the one thing he'd been taught to fear and hate, now is worried about his own fate- which isn't looking

@CheesyGranola who he attached to like a leech because kids do that in situations like this- suddenly does a one-eighty on him, and any coping or emotional steadiness he was starting to reclaim got uprooted violently. He's STILL not given a chance to deal or express what he's feeling, and it just. Keeps. Building. Finding someone to blame turns into actually blaming turns into hate turns into /snap/, which is what you see here.

@TheShonePizza I think that's my favorite part about his character. He's so big and powerful, but he's really a very gentle and kind-hearted person. Yeah, he likes a good fight, but he's a pushover when it comes to anyone he cares about and incredibly protective. He's a very 'light in the darkness' type of character in a lot of ways.

God, in this scene he is even more whiney, emotional challenged and fucking bitchy than Cloud Strife.
In that scene where everyone gets knocked out of the airship above Gran Pulse, the only thing I was thinking was “Please, fall to your death, Hope, you fucking whiney brat with a girl’s name!”
He thinks he is SO hard done, even though he still has his father and the rest of the main cast are orphans, one did not even KNOW his parents and the orphans became such a much younger age.

He JUST Lost his mom, Snow never met his parents, but he at least had time to cope with the fact.
He JUST got relocated from his home, and he's on the run,

All the other characters were in a far worse situation than Hope. Hope knew what it was like to have a mother to love you, Snow did not. Snow never knew his parents, so he never knew what it would be like to lose them.... imagine if you lost ur mom, or dad? you've known them and it would be almost impossible to live life without them. He may still have his father, but they don't exactly get along. He's also only a little kid, the rest of the cast has at least some sort of family. Sahz has a son, lightning has a sister, Vanille has Fang, Snow has a wife and a sister in law

It would also balance out the ‘youngest/shortest character gender’ in “Final Fantasy XIII”, as it really annoyed me that the youngest/smallest character of each ‘group’ was male: the Main Cast had Hope, NORA had Maqui, and Sazh had Dajh.

There are a lot of people who hate Hope, and I think that's sad. He's just a kid and he's going through a lot. I can certainly understand him, and I like that he realizes that the only way he can do any good is to get stronger. He learns to survive, and so I like him for that. :)

God. I haven't had a chance to play FFXIII yet, but this cutscene is an example of why after all this time I still love the franchise. And JRPGs in general. To me, WRPGs aren't all that story driven; they're just gigantic sandboxes with RPG elements. Without characters who feel--even if its to the point of angst--I just can't understand why I should be playing an RPG. Everyone says they hate Hope for being a "crybaby," but I've got a better word for it: openly emotional.

also check for a serise called grandia, i personaly HATED the first game but alot of people loved it(which ive not seen one legit reason to enjoy it other than "its light hearted" but back to point i hated the firts but the 2nd and 3rd games are 2 of the bets rpgs ive ever played but they get alot of hate
