The dogs bollocks according to clever man Stephen Fry on the TV series Qi refers to Meccano sets back in the day. Which if you were a rich kid could afford the Meccano Deluxe box or Box Deluxe or as Cockneys would say "Dogs Bollocks". If you weren't so rich you would have the Meccano box Standard or bog standard which i doubt derived from Cockneys but if it did it's a pretty poor attempt at rhyming!
