It's not just about brave people; people get it for their charity work, for helping so many others or even helping the Gurkha's be able to settle in Britain (Joanna Lumley). Authors like Rowling encourage kids to keep reading, indulge their fantasies and to write stories themselves. Not to mention her charity work too.

I also heard she chose Emma to present the award to her, but I always thought it was Alan Rickman who got the most information - because JK actually told how the book would (who would die Harry/Voldemort) and all that.
