It was such an amazing experience to have him go to my school before he performed here and it was really awesome to go with my deaf and hard-of-hearing teachers and friends and some interpreters to see him perform! I can't believe I saw myself so many times in this video! :'D
This opens up my though of"Of you really want to do it you can if you set your mind to it" when I witnessed this I was stunned i wanna learn how to rap and watching this tells me "YES I CAN!"
A person who embraces ASL as their primary language will be considered a member of the Deaf community. I find many deaf friends on a Deaf dating site ----Deafornot dot c om---- Good luck to them!!!
@PyrPyro yeah but doubt they thought of that -_- Ironically youtube has a transcript thing that transcripts all the words, but they aren't using that either. Great consideration
@PyrPyro I don't think that's really fair - it's not that you're not 'up to par', just that subtitles take effort to create. Is it unfair for publishers not to publish every book in braille? It's unfortunate that deaf people can't take advantage of things like streaming audio on youtube, but it's not a necessity or a right.
@thegnome54 What? Subtitles take effort to create? I'm sure creating subtitles for this video would take a fraction of the effort editing or shooting it took. That's not an excuse.
@cigarettehush I actually disagree, subtitles are an intensive project. But that's not the point - even if I grant you that it would take little effort, that still doesn't mean that they should have done it. There are many things they could have done to improve the video with relatively 'little effort'. In the end they only have so much time, and captions are not absolutely necessary so it's perfectly reasonable to omit them.
@PyrPyro thats what Close Captioning is for...most if not all TVs are capable of it, and if a deaf person was watching this...they probably had it on.
@123IOWNALL321 actually it is relevant to american news cause that was from silent shout for Deaf awareness in NYC, which is obviously here in the US. Its old in the sense that silent shout was late last year.

I keep reading "Beethoven" ... to my knowledge, Beethoven never wiggled about like an epileptic under a disco-ball!
Probably a deaf, dumb and blind guy could 'rap' eloquently - however, 'music', that's something different ... :L

"Those two words, 'Music' and 'Deaf,' they've never gone together." Beethoven never gets his props...

This is about a Deaf guy, you'd think CBS would add subtitles for all the Deaf fans. Guess even in 2011, we are still not up to par.

@kaykentucky You're saying he's not a rapper just because he raps with his hands and not his mouth?
inirtrini 1 year ago
@kaykentucky
Nope, he RAPS - he speaks the rap in Sign Language and he even rhymes in his signs as well, as intense and as much "rap" as voiced rap.

Umm he's Finnish first of all, so it's not really relevant to American news...and this is old news anyways. He's been doing this since like 2006.
