cool but it would still only take 1/7 second to circle earth. The only thing with enough gravity to pull light is a black hole.....thats why its black :) i love watching discovery channel
@paintballgundown8 close but not quite right. a black hole is the only known thing that can overcome light and stop it. but large gravity bodies can still bend light. our sun does this. as will any other star in the galaxy and to some very minor degree so will all points of gravity.
maybe if it reflects some mirrors or satellite windows it can actuary go back to his back , but its not very likely and it might burn a whole in to his shirt xD
How stupid first : it takes just 0.12 of second for the light to go around the world not 2 seconds. Second : it goes in a straight line not in a curve , and Third: only the slightest movement of his hand and the light will move couple of miles. I know its a commercial but I'm just saying :D
Light may curve around large masses of gravity, but it's particles would still escape the earths gravitational pull. The direction would be altered by a very small amount due to the earth's gravity, but it would continue into space and not go along the surface.
haha. If you think I was trying to act like an intellectual, you're more pathetic than I thought. I was simply stating facts.
P.S.
your statement would have been sarcastic if my point was trying to say that you were not disappointed. In a sense it was sarcastic, but what I pointed out was your inability to understand what me and many others were trying to say.
@USGiorgi So just to clear things up a little bit, I knew this video was fake when I first looked at it and I do in fact (believe it or not) understand why.
light does not have mass its not affected by gravity in the way you think. when light passes a massive object, it is still traveling in a straight path along the surface of time and space, but because time and space is "funnelled" near large objects, the path of the light appears to bend, like a lense. if the object is really massive like a black hole it will bend space so much that the straight path will not be able to escape from the curvature.
@ninja6kid hmm if i look at it again you might be right i was thinking about it and this is my conclusion: Well If a black holes gravity field is so strong that light cannot escape itself light must have mass? Am I right?
It should have been instantaneously on his back since light is fast enough to circle the globe about seven or eight times in one second.... I don't understand why there is a noticeable delay for the spot to reach his back.
@MafferDragonhandEyed and also the fact that light cannot bend, or the blooming effect? Stop picking it apart to make yourself look clever its just an advert.
@Dangerbean Well those are the obvious ones, but by the way light can bend quite easily actually. :D
I just bothered me that it could have been the perfect commercial but the producers knew absolutely nothing about how fast light is. I think we all KNOW it is not actually possible, but that delay really bothered me...

@scrogathon
Speed of light = 299 792 458 (m/s)
Circumference of the Earth (at the equator) = 40 075 160 (m/turn)
299 792 458 (m/s) / 40 075 160 (m/turn) = 7.48 turn in one second ;)
