I was born in '89 but I was at least lucky enough to grow up around the music and the people (thanks to my awesome mom and aunt.) Still, sometimes I wish I was born in the late '60s/early '70s.
I was a teen during those years (14 in '85), so I wasn't quite as old as the people in these pics, but back then every year I would dye my hair. One year red, the next blond, then it was purple with the sides shaved off.....last color was blue/black. Some newspaper guy photographed me in all my goth finery back in '89. I should have asked for a copy. Now I look like somebody's mom (which I am). Nobody would guess......
Awesome....original back in the day goth. I miss those days. It seems now everyone can be dark with a little hot topic money. Its no longer about the music and expression...the love of it all. It has been ruined by the mainstream idiots!
Give me this look over the new Cyber look any day. The girls back then looked sexy WITH clothes on and not half naked like they are now. A bra, booty shorts and fuzzy boots does not make an outfit.
The photo at 1:47 is taken outside Salisbury Guildhall, and that, and the library steps was THE place for goths, punks etc to hang out in the 1980's....that photo has such familiarity, but I can't quite work out who the people are in it! The blonde girl looks a BIT like me - I know I had the same boots!
old school yeah , just a few people know what really deathrock is. This music is the best . In our country nobody plays this genre of music , it´s such a shame....
So, I'm looking at the pics thinking, 'geeeez, a lot of these people look REALLY familiar to me' then boom, there's a pic. of me!!! WHERE did you get these pics. from??!
@headfullufhell Haha oh wow thats awesome :) many of these were randomly emailed to me, and some just off old deathrock forums! Would you like that photo you are in? I'll do my best to dig it up I made this video quite some time ago!
*sighes* its so sad that i was born in the 90's, and missed it, now it will never come back like good times. now its just a bunch a pussboots fagulas now......
@tharailwaydra yeah,.i wish ived been at thoose times when teenies had a REAL live..no like nowadays only internet and trend..-.- i was born to late ;(
yeah but im 20 i just start listening to punk music like green day and ac dc but i just got my lip pierced but im still into rap but im starting to become a punk more and more
Emo is the new trend. I think emo is stupid. I was born 1994 (im 15) but I like retro goth styles. And old school punk rock styles. I don't like the new hipster fashions. I like old school goth and punk best. I think people just got bored of punk and goth which is stupid. It's a lifestyle you choose! You can't just move on when you get bored!
@XxmychemheartxX I agree with you 100% dude/dear! I'm a goth living in the Coachella Valley and it's very uncommon for me to see a goth or a punk anywhere at all. Everyone else around here is either an emo or a hipster.....:(
@RATTTHEPUNK Me too mate. :) Though 'm more into goth myself, but hey, punk girls, goth girls, new wave girls, romantic/victorian girls, or death rock grils, they all suit me well ^_^
wish i'd been in alive during this time and in a scene. Would love to have deathrockers in my area! Where I live only "scene", and "mallcore" people. Only 4 metalheads, no punks.
I can sympathize. I was born in 1985. But still, at least this gives us both a perspective of the early 90s Goth (the leat wave of Goth), which was an offshoot of the 80s.
This was my era. I lived in a small Welsh town and there was only me and my girlfriend like this at the time.......The comments and looks were unreal.
I have to say i miss it but still listen to all the music. The EMO types today have no idea...lol.
@666deathghost Me too.....T_T Why most of the young men and boys at the church I do volutneer work at also dress in some sort of mix of emo, skater, and hipster styles....it saddens and vexes me simultaneously......I'm probably the only goth there.
@Carlbstard I prsonally would LOVE to see 80's style goths, punks, death rockers, and new wavers in the ara wher I live. Everyone else there is either a rap fan, a skater, a preppy, an emo, or a hipster.....>_<
@Jakegothicsnake i agree i live in chicago the hottest looks now are the hiphop, emo, hipsters which are mostly girls and the retros which was the jerk look at first is now a cross between the 70s and 80s styles i would luv to see some real deathrockers and punks or even heavymetals man chicago sucks ass..........
@spinmark1980 Me too......My area unfortunately is rather conservative in terms of fashion. It's all either trendy or conservative. It's a rare sight for me to see other people with punk fashion, or industrial clothing....:(
@Jakegothicsnake Same here. I never really cared for this place from the start, but Indianapolis is pretty terrible when It comes to this sort of stuff. It seems like all of the Goths/Deathrockers/and Punks have fallen off the face of the earth. My place is pretty much like yours, and I'll never understand why the people here give so much praise to music drowning with heavily computerized vocals and editing rather than true talent.
I was born in '89 but I was at least lucky enough to grow up around the music and the people (thanks to my awesome mom and aunt.) Still, sometimes I wish I was born in the late '60s/early '70s.
