Still had the MGS3 I got on launch day.. Bought the HD collection this passed Tuesday (the only good game that came out that 11/8/11 in comparison), and I've been replaying. Peace Walker (because I never finished it), 2, then 3...
My mom cried. There's nothing that can be said that can explain it better. Such a beautiful ending. Boss... 'Your body is gone, that is all.'
The ending to this game made me cry after all that they were through and then what the did to boss and the big boss later on, very sad ending to a great game
This is absolutely one of the most amazing games ever made. <3 It blew me away, it's in a league of it's own even when compared to the rest of the Metal Gear series.
Big Boss. The Legend. Betrayed by all, loved by few, and betrayed again by those whom he loved. A champion for peace, though he shall never have it, and only in his death, after a life of fighting, can his son find peace.

when my mgs3 disc stopped working i kept it in a silver box and then that way always keep the only gift my cousin (R.I.P) gave me, also he was a marine, the day of his burial i sent the silver box with him, and as the 21 bullets where fired into the air, I gave a las salute :' ) thanks cousin, thanks hideo kojima, and thanks youtubers who stopped a moment in life to read this comment : ')
@Vocalen That is sad, I hate this stolen criminal government that goes to war based on lies, for banking, oil, and corporations, nothing to do with US interests. And the sheep just put the flag out and throw the troops away. And if they make it back home, throw them away again, steal their benefits and don't give them any treatment for PTSD.
a sorrowful song for a dead age; yeah, it has a revolutionary tone, a very 1960's tone to it, but the music itself is not revolutionary, it is in fact more like a funeral song lamenting the passing of old ways.
The Boss and the Cobras represented the old generation of soldiers, while Naked Snake, a.k.a. Big Boss, he represented modern warfare. What this game was about, was how much warfare has changed, even as recently as looking back to the 60's.
the death of the old generations. That is what this game was about. In the 1960's, people born in the 19th century died by the hundreds. By 1968, pretty much all of the old generation was dead, and the old world was gone, the old way of doing things. That is what this song is about.
What makes the Boss' death sadder than Aerith is that Aerith is killed by the enemy, but Snake himself has to kill the Boss, living with that for the rest of his life. There's no way to see her again, nobody to get revenge on. Now you can really feel bad about that.
@zingodoom Playing the game again, knowing the whole story behind her betrayal makes the final blow even harder to do. You'd thinnk she would be finished off in a cutscene, but no. You can't wait for the last shot, you have to fire it.
Kojima pulled a companion cube execution before it was cool.
I WISH they could make MGS4 for PS2, i mean, im getting an xbox 360, but im sad in part of it, because i know i wont play MGS4
MGS3 is the first Metal Gears Solid'game i've played, and i REALLY got into it. Now i would like to buy a ps3, but in Argentina... GOD it's gonna be hard
@rabbitlove4ever everybody cries over this game... and i don't blame them... i own this game, and i'm currently in my 8th playthrough... it's such a compelling story
@LlortnA after all you learn is in-motion and what has transpired... having to defeat and then kill the person that has such a weight of influence and power in the both the life of Big Boss and in that of the story was so hard-hitting. One of the most heart-wrending moments in all video-game history.
I actually ended up staring coldly at the scene on my TV screen, welling up and feeling totally saddened and then ashamed. I 'became' Snake. That is the greatest immersion I've ever had in a game.
J'adooooore ce jeu !! c'est le PREMIER jeu sur play2 ke je termine d'habitude j'aime pa trop la play mai ce jeu je sui s devenu accro ! La chanson je kiiff trop trop fort !
Hideo Kojima actully accidently chose this song thinking it was another band and another song, I'm guessing he heard it and loved it. im glad he chose it, It really summed up the ending
I'm glad I didn't look this before I beat the game, otherwise I'd ruin myself the moment of watching the ending. This has to be the only series where I wait to be surprised and not go online to spoil myself. Metal Gear Solid will always live in my heart (and in my drawer)!
i thought this was so perfact every time i kill the boss in the game now i sing this song to myself because it describes the ending in the perfact way
oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooommmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg i love this song
@Feghoot i wouldnt be 100% sure of that tbh. would you say a man bawling his eyes out after having a leg blown off is more manly than a man who bites his lip and hides his pain so as to not burden those around him and by extension, further burden himself? and by the same admission, is a man who keeps his pain to himself really worth less than a man who blubs and offloads it on those all around him?
@MrJmaxted Misinterpreting what I'm saying. I was referring to Big Boss's situation at the end of the game, where he gently weeps at The Boss's grave.
it was a lot better than a movie....and the best thing was that YOU played as the main character (I liked naked snake (big boss) way better than solid snake...because he had SOUL (and sex with EVA :DD) ...even if he's failed to stay on the "good side" he was a hero in my opinion...
"There are no such thing as enemies......they are changing with the times....enemies are only existing in relative terms..." (the boss)
@zseriiiiii Well said. He was allways a hero to me. I think why i adore bigboss so much, Is because mgs3 was my first mgs game. now its my favorite game ever!
This is a nice tune and all that, but does anyone else agree that The Best is Yet to Come should have been the running theme throughout all of the series? Would have helped tie things together...
@SpikeTFA Not really. I like tBiYtC and all, but what they started with MGS2, where they have deep music in a more pop style than classical ties things together really nicely as well, and furthermore allows each game's ending to have a different tone.
Why?....WHY DID I HAVE TO BREAK MY PS2! WHY DID I HAVE TO POUND IT OVER THE MOST TRIVIAL LITTLE THING IN THE GAME I WAS TRYING TO DO?!?! I was even going to stop trying to do what I was trying to do and move on!! I would've had so much fun! But now, not only am I down a PS2, but the disk drive seriously messed up the first disk! Even if I got another PS2, I probably wouldn't be able to play the main game anymore...*sniff* Goodbye, MGS3, you shall be missed...at least, until I can get you back...
@imbadatnames390 Nah, I love the Secret theater, and I couldn't stand not being able to control the camera....it's what I had before, but the disc got scratched up when the PS2 started to screw up....I'll get it all sorted out eventually.
If there is a disgrace to any Metal gear game its going to be Rising. I'm sorry, it looks bad in my opinion. But the other MGS games are perfect. Their soundtracks are also perfect. :D
@XDeathXKingXGTRider Indeed. Seems like a hack and slash instead of a MGS stealth game. They should rename it to Raiden and something as snake most likely wont show up anymore.
@nazlo88 MGS3 was a prequel to the other MGS games. The events in MGS 1 and 2 took place between 3 and 4. In chronological order, I think the games go MGS3, MG1, MG2, MGS, MGS2, MGS4. And Peace Walker falls between MGS3 and MG1. You get to be Big Boss again. Which I must say, is SWEET!
That really made me rethink what I learn in history class ... the teacher said the same thing as Snake, the victor writes history, so how much did the victor say that is in fact truth. Just because they write it down and call it history doesn't make it truth ... I love history but the more I think about this the more I'm scared
You know, the cutscene before fight with The Boss made me cry, the cutscene after the fight made me cry, and so did this song. It still makes me sad. I can't watch the cutscenes because they still probably would make me cry. MGS3 (I don't know about 4 because I haven't played it) is probably the most emotional Metal Gear game.
It was an incredible ending, I remember how crazy and sad things got in mgs2.. But this one ended like mgs4 ended..you are left happy and upset at the same time. I can't wait for Peace walker.
at the end of the game if you don't cry a little inside your heartless this game is the saddest game iv'e ever played and the greatest game iv'e ever played every time i play mgs i play all of them then i feel there ain't another game out there left to play thanks hideo you have created the best game series of all time (in my opinion)

I also gave MGS3 a salute, and I did it after BB had done it,
*spoilers*
when he was at The Boss' grave.

My face quivered before I gave the salute.

I think of Big Boss standing there idle by her grave side with his arm held high saluting her grave with a tear rolling down her face.

Oh wow, I didn't know this was on the MGS3 soundtrack =O I never played this one so...LOL. Now I sort of want to!

If there is a disgrace to any Metal gear game its going to be Rising. I'm sorry, it looks bad in my opinion. But the other MGS games are perfect. Their soundtracks are also perfect. :D
XDeathXKingXGTRider 1 year ago

You must play number 4. Seriously. This week. You will love it.
Franocho69 2 years ago
@jokemasterslifer I almost cried at the end of MGS3, but I burst into tears at the end of MGS4.

It was an incredible ending, I remember how crazy and sad things got in mgs2.. But this one ended like mgs4 ended..you are left happy and upset at the same time. I can't wait for Peace walker.
