It`s not my fault the director selected end-of-the-hour film of me a bit brahms n`Lizt ,...after a potful of eloquent, witty, and - aye - worthy comments on the great fella. You roll of miserable, bitchy, bully-esque charlies
Doherty is a Huge fan. He sings a song called Lady Don't Fall Backwards in the clip. Up The Bracket, The Libertines first album was named after a Hancock catch phrase.
I suppose the programme makers wanted to give Handcock's work a modern relavence. But Doherty was a poor choice. Perhapes they chose him because he's a drunk like Tony was. I love Handcock [God rest his soul]. It was interesting to see the ITV series clips.
The producer was probably camp & allowed Doherty to play if he performed in other ways. How many times has the public had to suffer some fool just for the sake of the producers loose anal ring.
Doherty may very well be a genuine fan - I'm sure he is - but his presence in this documentary marred it for me.
It would be more appropriate to have made a documentary about him in which Hancock figured incidentally rather than the other way around.
The fact is that Hancock isn't "relevant" to young people. Either you take him on his own terms (as a product of his own time) or you leave him severely alone.
What the hell is Doherty doing in this doc? I just fast forwarded through any bits with him in them.

also, in the libertines song 'vertigo' he sings lines from sid james' poem in 'the poetry society': 'lead pipes, fortune made'.
babyshambles also have a song called 'stone me what a life'

@jjamesie
It's not a catchphrase, it's simply the book Hancock's reading int the 'Missing Page' episode.. I can't stand Doherty.. I love Hanckcock !

@JekyllBoote I'm sort of young and American. I just discovered Hancock. When he did the Hamlet scene as a pirate I thought that was hilarious!
