on first glance this band looks like a cheap Joy Division rip-off... with a singer who thinks his dad is Morrisey... taking their name from a Depeche Mode song. Hmm... i'm gonna need to listen to an album of theirs to make a full judgement :)
One of my favourite (and first) gigs was seeing them play supporting Radiohead at Brixton, think it was in about 95. I had just discovered both bands. Great live, Pat Duff was a really good frontman, and they had some genuinely cracking tunes. I think they were probably a bit too doomy for mainstream success though.
I reckon they lost a lot of the darkness on their last album, but in losing the doomy stuff, they also lost some of the edge that made their music more interesting than the usual.
most overlooked band in brit pop, like the much dour (if that's posible ) version of Suede. placebo also acknowledged their influence by incoporating a member in their band,
I still listen to this track a lot. I met the band at Reading one year, nice guys, Patrick was very tense though! Saw them play a few times, they were at their best live, just amazing, why were they not huge? I'll never know.
One of my favourite songs of all time. I remember crowd surfing at the astoria at the same time as putrick duff to this song when i was about 16. I reached out to shake his hand and he angrily pushed me aside! Still- worshipped the band for years. Thanks a lot for the post!!
Awesome. First heard this on the 'Q' World of Noise compilation, loved the debut and second album, don't know why they were so under appreciated. 2 classic albums and one pretty good one too
Heh, that's where I heard it as well. Funny, that CD was my Brother's and I just listened to it out of curiosity. It introduced me to Strangelove, Radiohead, and The Smiths.
I think they were just a bit too serious to be big at the time. I reckon their sound was just a bit too doomy to make an impression on the charts.
Agree the first 2 albums had loads of quality tunes, no filler in there.
A hugely underrated band. This is one of their very best songs, I only wished I'd known about them at the time. Brilliant!

What's really annoying is the lack of video of them playing live. Considering what a good live band they were, it's a shame theirs so little footage.
The only time I remember seeing them live on TV is them playing "Living with Human Machines" at Reading... Would be good to see that again.

I KNOW WHY THE DISAPPEARED! IT was because Patrick Duff makes too many wacky faces and the band broke up.
Personally, I LOVE THEM!! ITS GREAT MUSIC!! STRANGELOVE ROCKS!
more videos please. <3<3
