I donno, there's a lot of conflicting ideas when it comes to Satine and the Duke... I mean, obviously he knew she didn't love him because he felt the need to continuously offer her fame and fortune to win her over. She was very much in an odd place, what she did was not right, by any stretch of the imagination, however she was forced into it by her boss. Every time she told him she didn't want to do something he'd freak out and tell her she didn't have a choice... which she didn't.
