That was awesome, brings back some great memories....I was there also, as part of the AJ Hackett crew.......I actually was given the honour of being the very first jumper to test everything out(some say honour, I say I was the only expendable one on the crew) great job, have you done any other big jumps since?
@semy11 You guys did a great job -- especially when the winch broke. Sadly, I haven't done any big jumps since then (just a small one near Whistler, Canada).
That Is freakin bad ass BRother!!!! I just posted a video of the hike up to "the bridge to nowhere" jump in california.. I'm thinking of attempting it next year.. I'm frightened by heights.
I didn't! After bouncing up and down for a while, I was hanging upside down about a hundred feet above the ground. I pulled a rope out of a sack around my waist, and lowered it to people on the ground, who reeled me in - all the while swinging side to side like a giant pendulum.
Do you have to have any prior bungee jumping experience before you can jump this bridge? I know it's only available during the go fast games but can any average joe do it. I go skydiving pretty often and I wanna try bungee jumping and I figure jumping off the highest bridge in North America is a good way to start lol
There seem to be different operators in different years. When I went, they asked a lot of questions about experience, but still allowed a first time jumper (a newspaper man) to give it a try.
@ultima3210 you do realize that if your cord breaks, you would only find out when its too late. probably about a half a second to get your mind together and pull the string
@ultima3210 wouldnt have mattered. At that close to the ground, and at your acceleration, your chute would come out maybe 100 feet from the ground by the time you noticed anything was wrong. By the point you would still splatter against the ground, or hit the water as though it were concrete.
@ultima3210 FYI: You would need to open the parachute shortly after jumping off the platform so it has enough time to open, meaning before the bungee cord catches you or not...
make fun of me if you will, but i've never gone bungee jumping or have even seen someone do it besides tv and things so, i was wondering, how do you get down from it? Do they pull you back up or lower you to the ground...sorry so sound unintelligent but i'm curious.
Methods vary. For this jump, I had a secondary rope (maybe 100 feet long) coiled in a bag around my waist. After I had bobbed up and down a few times (still upside down), I lowered the rope to people waiting below, who hauled me in. For some jumps, people are hauled back up. For still others, where there's a sufficiently deep river below, they're lowered near the river, than can disconnect and dive in.
thats a super tall jump...i've done 300 or so feet...but that looks freakin awesome...looks like a good 10 sec free fall...thats kind of what you get on a tandem skydive jump...5 stars
Uhm, no. You get around 50 sec on an average (tandem) freefall. You reach terminal velocity after around 10sec, but that doesn't mean you're not falling anymore...
Free fall in a skydive lasts about a minute if you jump out from around 15,000 feet which I believe is pretty standard. The thrill of this one is being so close to the ground.
As Pussy boy as this is going to sound,I could'nt watch it all the way through and I applaud enormously ANYONE who has the balls to jump from that height,....Jesus,...just watching you on the end made my stomach turn...I'd have paid the extra $400 for them to drag me back to a sane safe place,lol.....VERY impressed by the bravery though I have to say!!!!
Okay here are some results, looks like you might have paid around $400 (TOTALLY WORTH IT) for that jump. The highest I was able to find was Perrine Bridge, ID,487 feet, cost $100. Considering your rebounds were almost that much, man do I feel jealous right now. I have only a handful of skydives under my belt which means BASE jumping is out of the question, I sooooo wanna do something like you did for my first bungee. Anyway thanks a lot for sharing, I'd highly appreciate any info you can give.
Having read most of the comments I am so sad its not as easy to do as I would have liked. I am on to check the gofast website etc.
If you don't mind, excluding the travel and lodging etc, how much did it cost you for the jump alone? And which is the highest commercial bungee operation that you know of (in the US)? Helicopter etc doesn't sound all too attractive I'd rather skydive.
I don't remember the exact cost, but your above estimate of $400 is probably close. My recollection is that I paid slightly more, but it included park admission, food, video, t-shirt, and a couple of other items.
A chance to die means a chance to live. I can tell you never lived yet. I'm going to London and driving all the way to Milan hitting all the countries touching France. If I do find this place I'm going to do this and post it on Youtube. Learn to live.
thats fuken crazyyyyyyy, must be kinda like peaaceful, like slo motion- but thats reallly highhh, like ud think ud just die of aheart attack on the way down
Pulling you up would be too difficult. Instead, each jumper is given a pouch with a one hundred foot long rope. After you jump (and stop bouncing around), you open the pouch, lower the rope, and people on the ground haul you in. I've left out a few minor steps (e.g., they also have to disconnect the bungy at the top, and use a secondary rope to lower you some more), but that's the general idea.
