The only sound audible is them moving about in the container. They do produce a smell if you have a really large colony like I do. It's hard to describe but it can be noticeable. It's not too bad but you may want to keep them somewhere you don't frequent.

I have been experimenting with their diet and smell. I have found that when you don't feed them a high animal protein diet, like dog food they do not smell at all. But at the same time they need high protein. So instead I feed high plant protein instead. So far I can only smell the food in the enclosure, but no roach smell.

It will take months, but remember to feed them fresh oranges sliced in pieces. They go apeshit over that, and the babies will 10x over a short period.

I started off with 50. Its been over a year now and I am just getting there, but I can't even feed off yet. I have about 500+ babies and some are almost at maturity. Another 2-3 months and I can start feeding off i'd say.

Depends, what kind of reptiles? How many mouths to feed? Starting off with 30 nymphs or adult pairs? A batch of mixed nymph will probably take around 6-8 months to be able to start feeding regularly out off. But it also depends on what size roach you want as well.
