Any new EU defence force or unified military would simply be as it currently is, a union of UK/French forces with token deployments by the other EU members, hardly enough to challange the USA but just right to see off Russian or Chinese aggression if the need arose.

@Marrko2010, I like France and am a supporter of the new Anglo/French treaties recently signed and of the EU becoming a future superpower with both our nations and Germany in the driving seats, but i have to correct you, the UK has the 2nd largest intelligence networks in the world, larger than both Russia's and France's. Its also an exagerration to say the French Empire controlled half the planet, again it was the British who had the largest empire in history and we only controlled a 1/4.

The EU needs to unify as a federation. Our small nations are losing power and respect in the world - soon we will be third world countries, unless we unite as one.
With a united military we will be the undisputed military world superpower. The EU is already the strongest economy in the world.

@Arbitrary242 buddy, the EU army would never work, because so many countries would not contribute, most of the wars would only be considered by the UK and to a lesser extent France, and the United States would still be the military superpower because it spends nearly half of the worlds total military budget. We will never see a proper Euro Army or a proper Euro superstate because we cannot seem to co operate with one another. This is not to say that it would be good, I believe we should try

@Arbitrary242, Without unification, sure the European (especially the big 3 powers, Germany, UK, France) would lose influence abroad over the next century but to say they'd become third world is significantly exagerrating the scenario, EU intergration is going to take time, there are still national resentments among the European powers after centuries of wars which culminated in the devastating WW2, but we will get there and Europe will once again become the dominant economic and military force.

I dont think America is afraid of the eu at all. Besides the fact they could wipe the eu off the face of the earth. The eu has a defence force,NOT an Attack Force. Their soldiers are inexperienced, with shiny new outfits,..but they cant hit the broad side of a barn.. USA / UK / Canada/ Australia all have BATTLE HARDENED SOLDIERS,..with EXPERIENCE, eu forces just do fuckin parades, and iron their pants, and shine their boots.And i know that people in the USA dont fear, worry or care about the eu

Who is going to save us from the European Defence Force. They got the EU by deception and withholding democracy, what will they be at next, because if you give the crafty bastards in the EU any kind of a punch they will be pissing their Europanties to use it, just to show America how big they are. I wouldn't give them a blunt swiss army knife.
