  • more songs... please! :D

  • This song has probably been the reason that a lot of people have tried to learn Swahili. I think the first person I heard singing it was Harry Belafonte. My favorite, however, is Angelique Kidjo. I think she has picked up the torch that Miriam Makeba dropped.

This is an excellant choice of teaching materials.

  • @leftysergeant :-) Thanks, now I have to find out about Angelique Kidjo! Miriam Makeba was a Living Legend. She died the way she wanted! On stage singing!

  • Malaika in Arabic means....;Angels....

  • @boogie89man :-) it sure does. And Sawahil in Arabic means coastal people!

  • Very wonderful song. We used to sing this song in a band practice when I was studying in Addis Ababa. It reminds me of my wonderful time there in the band. A really timeless song. Thank you for putting the lyrics and translation too....I really enjoyed it.

  • @ChelseafcTube :) glad it brings good memories

  • what beautiful language and song.

  • @sabreena1khalick : It sure is! and easy too.

  • @kulmansam I stumbled on this link by mistake but recognised the name Malaika - i had a friend who had this name. I have saved this song on my playlist - shall certainly would like to learn this song by heart.

  • @sabreena1khalick : It is actually very easy, and you will catch your self singing it at midnight, middle of the day and times you least expect to!

  • @kulmansam believe it or not - I already catch myself singing :) the little I know about Swahili. Ha ha ha! I dance to it in my bedroom! Catchy little song.

  • I LIKE THIS SONG! I think I'll play this during my workout.

  • @maighreadmcfey : knock your self off and have fun :-)

  • Thanks so much for posting these videos! I'm going on volunteer trip to Kenya later this year, and I'm trying to learn a bit of the language before hand! :)

  • @TheBeatles193 : Awesome! Just keep looking for more information. I have people here who 'say' they learnt from here and were able to use the language when they went to Kenya. They posted in this channel when they came back.

  • song name?

  • @r3dd0wn Malaika! Hence Malaika song.

  • Yes!! This is the original "Malaika" song recorded in 1963 in Nairobi by Fadhili Williams Mdawida and his band "The Jambo Boys".

  • when was this song made?

  • @alirizakarmali16 long before I was born for sure! I would assume some time in late 60's maybe even earlier

  • @alirizakarmali16 This was the original "Malaika" song recorded in Nairobi in 1963 by Fadhili Williams Mdawida and his group "The Jambo Boys" band.

  • A few years ago we sung thid beautiful song in a choir, I am so glad to come across this video, with a proper translation the song comes back alive for me. Besides Swahili is such a beautiful language, I will try and learn to speak it one day. Thank you, Kulmansam. Greetings from Holland!

  • ya people say its easy to learn swahili i want to learn it this year but i cant get it in courses so ill have to pay lol

  • @alana2141 you bet... there is an element that comes in when you pay.. because you paid, you feel you have to get your moneys worth and you work harder to benefit!

  • haha, we always play this for my friend Malaika's birthday. hehe "Nakupenda Malaika" as a friend. lol -ashley (nakhumicha)

  • @forgot2fly cool!

  • I took KiSwahili last year and it was the best time ever in a language class. Mwalimu wangu mzuri sana. He taught us this song, Jambo Bwana and a few others. I love this language

  • @DBZmegafan99 :) Interesting, so there is someone else also teaching fun way!

  • @kulmansam Yes sir. Mwalimu Muturi Kamuyu

  • This song reminds me when I had a boyfriend named Stephen. Now I think I always fail with a relationship. :( I wish I had one.

  • @Anna94Esdr ... Bob Marley said it best "When one door is closed, many more is open".. learn from past and embrace the future.. there is someone for every one, they may be right at your door, but you may not be thinking that they are the ones... If I was in your shoes (knowing what I know now), I would read a few books such as (5 love languages, men are from mars and women are from venus and magic of thinking big)

  • (^_ ^)

  • Haya tafsiri kama ya Kiswahili kwa Kiingereza unafanya kubwa. Mimi siku zote alitaka kuwa na tafsiri, lakini kamwe found lolote Internet.
