It's in no way obvious. He recorded all of Niandra at exactly the same time as BSSM was recorded. At that time he hadn't even started using heroin. He did use heroin during the recording of Usually just a T-shirt (which was chronologically recorded) though. I personally believe it has more to do with his mental breakdown than the heroin use.

Niandra Lades and Ususally just a T-Shirt to me is one of the most beautiful albums in the world, but you have to be in search of that kinda beauty and authenticity in music to appreciate it.
