  • uhh i wanna get one

  • Shooting a hog...when shooting a boar try to place the shot just behind the ear or forward of the chest where the heart is located. Also, consider a spear among your weapons if you have to follow the hog into the palmettos after the shot. A cross bow becomes cumbersome among the brush and a spear is better for defending yourself and finishing the hog off.

  • For those who have commented buy a longer cocking rope or you do not have to lift it over the scope you do in fact have to perform this action. A longer rope would mean ou have to coil up the extra length around something and then pull up to cock the string. The scope is in the way of the cocking rope so you have to lift it over the scope. If you put the rope on the back first then you have to pull the bow string back to catch the hook. This is painful on the hands.

  • You don't lift the rope over the scope. Just put one hook on and run it up the left side and around the back like the instructional book say's. Idiot

  • Great video for clarifying how to cock this crossbow!

  • That was a really informative video, and I got like 3 different tips just by reading your comments. Thanks a lot man. :)

  • put the rope on the back first, then put the hooks on the string*

  • What kind of Crossbow would you recommend for someone who is getting into Crossbows? Not for hunting but for general marksmanship

  • @ripymf Excalibur Phoenix.

  • @dave56bug price?

  • There's a notch behind the scope the string goes into before you cock the crossbow. You don't pull the string over the scope.

  • I found a website they have the Excalibur Equinox "Lite Stuff" Crossbow Package with Free Shipping $849.99 retails for $970.99 and they also have the all new barnett ghost 400 for only $839.99 with free shipping.

  • Greetings all. I have a Facebook Page called "Hunting 101 - The Basics of Hunting. It is a community page and if you select "Like" you will receive periodic tips, suggestions, and advice from real hunters who hunt on a shoe string budget and are willing to share what they have learned. Also, once you click "Like" and have a tip to share go ahead and post.

  • aproximitly ABOUT 30 yrds?

  • @acebit23

    Approximately I don't know, about 30 yards.

    Way to remove some words.

  • I'm considering getting an Excalibur. I am also new to shooting crossbows and will also be purchasing a block for shooting around the yard. I'm 26, one of my impressions with a crossbow was that they were a lot quieter. That sound almost seems comparable to a 22LR. Maybe the camera system makes it seem louder, but I understood them to be comparable to a twig being snapped in half.

  • Hopefully your next trip to Bass Pro includes getting a Sims Limb Saver Silencer Kit? The best $30 I have ever spent on my Excal CB.

  • decent video but you are putting in way to much effort to cock your bow. First go buy a longer cocking rope, you should be able to hook one side flip over the notch and flip the other and never use your thumb for lefting up the arrow brace, it should easily slide under it. with the way your going you will be mr 4 finger really soon.

  • @cwelkman Great points and will begin to look for a longer cocking rope. I like the built in cocking handles. With a built in handle it is one less thing to forget when packing for a hunting trip.

  • @cwelkman Thanks for the tip. I just bought a vortex today. Sure enough, the rope doesn't go over the scope. Supposedly this is the way excalibur likes it. I took my rope apart, cut some paracord to length. Problem solved. I think for a shorter person(I am 6ft) the length of pull might be too much. I almost run out of pull when it cocks.

  • my dad uses one because he hurt his shoulder at work and cant accuratly shoot a compund but he loves his...hes watched every deer hes shot die they are very accurate and fast...also he found out that flat nocks shoot better than the half moon style

  • @easternrider2012 I have used both flat nocks and half moon. They are so fast when released it is difficult to detail any differences.

  • @freedompalmbay thats a nice crossbow I have the PSE TAC15i thats a crazy crossbow I have chronograph and used it on it and it said about 406 to 408 FPS its really fast and accurate i have not done it yet but when i do you will be the first to know but it can shoot 2 inch groupings at 100 yards very deadly the beauty about cocking it it has a handle to wind up to cock it NICE VIDEO ALSO LIKE THE CROSSBOW YOU SHOULD LOOK UP THE TAC15i ITS REALLY SOMETHING TO WATCH

  • what type of excalibur is this

  • Thanks for the cool demo!! I like your style!! Lee x

  • Why use a crossbow? Is it to make hunting a challenge?

  • People it really does not matter how much friggen noise these things make unless your shooting it where your not supposed to be shooting it, by the time the animal hears anything the bolt has already gone though-an-through. And realy? visual feed back? what, do you want a line of confetti streaming out the back of every bolt? its called a friggen blood trail budz...

  • In each occurrence of firing at a deer or boar I have never seen the bolt in flight. Your right...at 300 feet per second its basically gone and either on target or not. How will you know? The obvious signs are a blood trail but allow at least 20 minutes before tracking the animal. Why? A wounded or soon to be expired (dead) animal may run 100 yards or more if chased or spooked. Allow the animal to bed down after being shot, wait, and then carefully follow any blood trail and tracks.

  • im goona be hunting in southern ontario would you recommend hunting with a crossbow or a compound for white tail

  • can u nuse theese to hunt carp someone told me they were too strong

  • You would have to add a spool, line, and special fishing tips to the bolts. Other than the additional expense the answer is yes. You can use properly equipped crossbows to hunt all kinds of fish. Using a bow on fish you have to account for the fraction of the water. Shoot lower.

  • After crossbow hunting in Nebraska I have a few suggestions for their next model. First suggestion is use a lighter quality material. I do appreciate the machined metal approach but it becomes heavy over time. Also, perhaps some form of feedback when the bolt is in flight. The bolts are so fast I have no way to tell if I was high or low. The bolts bury themselves in the ground so no visual once I have shot. I am not sure what the solution is but something visual would be welcome.

  • @freedompalmbay Lumenok makes products for crossbows also. Helps with that issue.

  • Would you recommend the Relayer anniversary edition or should I better stick with one of the usual Excalibur models?

  • I am not familiar with the Relayer so I can not comment. If the Relayer is "lighter" than the other models I would say yes. I do enjoy my crossbow but it becomes extremely heavy while holding it in the stand. I would also suggest a double deer stand to allow more room for movement.

  • @kluetenkloeter

All excaliburs are similar, they just have a a different power stroke. The relayer just has a wood laminate stock.

Almost to pretty to hunt with.

  • i shoot a buck with an excalibur

  • I really respect you for using the term, "weapon". Too many people seem to think, (check out the numerous posts on youtube!), that these things are toys.

They are weapons, pure and simple. If it kills, it IS a weapon.

But in saying that, crossbows do not kill people. People kill people. Add hurt, maim, disfigure and cripple, as well.

And all in the name of fun. to these idiots, do the words, "Grow up" mean anything? (Probably not.)

  • I shot an excalibur crossbow last week, and noticed right away the noise that this bow made, more like a gum going off. But the speed that was produced and what most caught my attention was the amount of accuracy this bow has.

  • @sg72792

Don't worry about the noise. Just practice and when you squeeze the trigger you will have meat.

  • hello.

what excalibur model is this youre using?

  • i would not be able to move it an inch.if i had the money id get one with a winch of some sort.

  • It is not that difficult unless you have a physical condition. If you use your body when pulling up you should be able to cock it.

  • damn that is powerful! I am going to be getting a crossbow within the next few weeks. Any suggestions for the $150 range. Hunting deer and small game mainly. Also, would a compound bow be a better buy for that price range?

  • I bought a cheap (new) crossbow off ebay and quickly realized it was junk. You're much better off saving your money and getting a better one. Used is ok, but just stay away from the generic Brand X stuff. Barnett makes some good inexpensive bows. Bass Pro is a good place to get advice and try shooting. A local archery shop would be even better.

  • IF you ever come across $500 i strongly reccomend you to the Excalbur's Pheonix crossbow! It costs a pretty penny but yeah its awsome, and it can sure take a beating without losing effectivness

  • @galacticwacko

I got a suggestion for your $150. Add about another 500 to 600 to it and get an excaliber.

Junk will get you hurt when the limbs explode.

  • this looks more dangerous to load than a gun

  • It can be if you are not careful. There is a lot of power stored in that bow and you must be careful of the string as it goes forward when firing. I respect my crossbow more than my rifle. Still, I am careful with both weapons.

  • good to have in time of depression.. not as many laws surrounding them

  • Can you cock it with your handa only? I've tried and it took all my strenght! Even with the cocking rope it's a bit of an effort.

  • It would be difficult.

  • Is excalibur a good make of crossbow? and what is the best one to buy?

  • For the money I feel that it is a good quality crossbow with power to spare. Crossbows are a bit bulky in tree stands and when walking through the woods they tend to catch on vines and such. These are minor things and would be seen with any crossbow. The best crossbow to buy? Hmmm, depends on what you are hunting. For deer and hogs I would recommend one their models in the middle of the price spectrum. For water buffalo, bison, and such perhaps the more powerful models. Try one out first.

  • There good quality and they have a good rep.

  • @elSE3DY

It's the best crossbow you can buy. I willl never own anything but a excaliber

    Best warranty on the market

  • you can actually attach 1 hook, swing the rope over and then attach the other hook. Seems alot safer for the scope to me.

Excalibur crossbows own ;) 5 stars

  • The cocking rope is to short. I agree it would be safer for the scope. With the scope connected to the crossbow I have to lift up and over to fit it on the notch. A longer cocking rope may work but then the operator would have to arch further back to bring the string into the trigger catch mechanism.

  • You have to pull the rope a bit for the second hook. Look at the video on excalibur website.

  • Thanks I'll take a look. It was the rep at Bass Pro who recommended attaching the two hooks and then lifting over the scope and placing it into the notch. I am always open to new and better ways. :-)
