@likjewso Not where I'm from... It's very dry... But America is big, I'm sure there is rain in some places... Like Oregon...Yes... Lots of rain in Oregon...
No way! You really afraid of what the neighnours would think? Get local grasses. Or a vegatable garden. Or plant some trees and bushes and a water feature to make a pretty wood-like garden. Or get a vegetable garden. Or a zen garden....So many possibilities.
Really? You would have other countries involved in the American political prosess? That sounds like trouble. I like Robert Heinleins idea in Starship Troopers (the book, not the dumb movie). You have to earn the right to vote.
I've been dumped via text message before, and that's certainly probably one of the crueler was to do it - they have the phone and could call, but chose not to. But, you're happily married now, with a baby too! So, everything always works out, and one can never give up hoping.
you know, getting rid of all the grass (by going with concrete, i assume) would be kinda bad in an environmental way. At the very least, it reduces the area on which water can penetrate the soil, which can cause flood, so...
I've yet to understand why you're watering your lawn so much, rather, did water your lawn so much. I can remember only about 2 or 3 occasions when my dad needed to water the grass of our yard; that's 2 or 3 times in over 18 years. Does it not rain much in Indiana?
Hmm, strangely this one is taking a while to load. It must be because it is being watched by tonnes of other NerdFighters and the awesome is just overwhelming the system!
John, let me tell you one thing. You do not want the Dutch government to rule America. Sure, there are a lot of good things here compared to America, but the things we're famous for, like legal weed and other soft drugs are all being banned, because apparently it has a 'bad' influence on the youth of this country. While actually statics show that because of our lenient rules the problems we experience here with drugs are nothing compared to other European countries, where it is in fact banned.
i'm totally having just about the best time of my life watching all of these videos from beginning to end... it's AMAZING. i love nerdfighters, being a nerdfighter, and the possibility of meeting john this weekend... but most of all, i love the audio preview guy trying to say "nerdfighter". awesome.
:( your video's are too addicting... how am I supposed to get nerdtastic grades at school when I can't do my assignments because I'm watching youtube...?
Try putting on a walkman while mowing the lawn - it really helps a lot.
Concerning the other point: I know lots of under 18 year olds who know more about politics than most adults including myself. I kind of have the feeling as if lots of people are loosing interest in things as soon as they are allowed to participate in them. Like when you turn 16 drinking bekomes a lot more boring.
That is exactly why you have a republican President who is obviously mentally retarded and lots of people around the world attack your embassies or at least think the average american is stupid...
YOU START DRINKING AT THE WRONG AGE!
People in Europe are generally fed up with drinking when they are around 21. That is the age when can really start deciding and changing things. Lots of good ideas f.e. come from Uni-Students, but if you are drunk all the ,you are not going to help improve society.
Actually, it's probably a production of the drinking which causes most of us Americans to be dumbasses. And having our teenagers drink at 16 would just produce another ridiculous problem America has to face. BOO ON DRUNK/BUZZED DRIVING.
Hey, has that 'Rock and Roll' book always been there?
Mowing the lawn sucks! I hate the gasoline smell that attaches itself to everything you wear while cutting and the little particles that weld themselves to your skin.
I think when I get a house with a lawn, I'm putting down astro-turf.
Wow, i finally found people who agree that people under 18 should be able to contribute to the running of the country they reside in. Wow, that as long, but true. Of course, I doubt that the voting age will change, because we can't vote to get the right to vote.
I don't understand the statistical comparison, even if it is true...?_?...
There are more fictional murders than real murders every day, no matter what country you're in. Saying there are fewer real murders makes little sense as an argument. It just makes sense in that "yes, this is the way the fictional world works - it has a lot of fake murders."
Population differences just make the comparison bend my mind even more... Ouch. Granted we do have a problem here with that whole thing...
Wow, that statistic you made up sounds good to me. I mean, we do have a lot of murders on our tv, and let's not even go into real life stuff...The Netherlands definitely should run our government. ;D
And wow, someone dumped you over instant messenger after 2 1/2 years? You're right, that's pretty harsh. At least you have The Yeti now. :)
Thing 1--You should move to South Florida where we have landscapers who mow the lawn for us.
It's an incredibly depressing reversal of the whole profitting-from-slavery-based-on-race-is-not-okay idea...but we don't have to mow our lawns.
Thing 2--I love a guy who talks to his books.
Thing 3--I also love any adult who believes in empowering the youth and giving them credit and generally not infantilizing them into incapable delinquents.Read The Case Against Adolesence by Robert Epstein.
Oh my^^ John you're lookin so hot after having cut the lawn :) Suuuuuuch a shame that you're already spoken for... and that I'm living in Germany... and that I'd be too young anyway... XD The brotherhood 2.0 vids are always fun to watch, so keep it up :) if you can live with the fact that at least one person in Germany will watch and witness your life, that is :P
Haha I'm dutch, and believe me.. there are (political) killers in Holland. Heared of Pim Fortuyn getting killed? Or about Theo van Gogh who was killed about his thoughts about the Islam?
Well, you're right.. it don't happen a lot. Hmm, now I don't know if I should be proud.. or not? =/
Try planting thyme instead. Thyme carpets don't have to be mowed, and they are as evergreen as you can get so far north (down here in Zone 7b, they are evergreen). No neighbors with sense would dislike a thyme carpet, unless they were jealous.
Why do you call your wife "the yeti?" Mowing the lawn is icky, get that nerdfighter courage! And you're probably right about that statistic. . . . Sadly.
Watch the early ones! She's that yeti cos you only get rare sightings! And hopefully she's hairy too -- she can join my one woman nerd fighter campaign to Let Girls Be Hairy If They Want To.
ahahahaha@your campaign.....i'll join....b/c i support girls and their freedom of choice! lol but i enjoy shaving off my leg hair! but hoorah to you and your hairy campaign!
I hate grass too. That's one thing that sucks about Indiana. lol.
BTW! I just got my friend hooked on these brotherhood 2.0 videos. And I am going off to college next week and you and Hank have inspired me and my best friend are going to keep in touch by video blogs. YES! Nerd fighters!
John! i watched your video last night but i just remembered that i didnt comment! great video! and i cant wait to see what your punishment is going to be!
Hi John, I am reading Looking for Alaska right now and I also borrowed An Abundance of Katherines from the library. Looking for Alaska is so good so far and I can't seem to put it down. You see I am wondering what you are counting down to in the book. I have a feeling the poor kid is going to die. How sad!
John and Hank Greene. John, a author with well acomplished books, and Hank, a succesful blogger of things important to our Earth, WITH THERE POWERS COMBINDED,FORM A PATHWAY TO HELPING THE WOOORRLD. hank/john john/hank are the Captain Planet of the Internet. And I have every intention of taking advantage of your powers. "Nerd Fighters!Nerd it up!" *double live long and prosper gangsta style*
Wow, I feel amazing having convinced John that we should definitely take over the US political process. 1 US citizen convinced, about 296.410.403 to go...
The numbers for income and general life perspective are the highest in Holland, Australia and Scandinavia. Plus my very city was voted the best out of 50 mayor European cities (each city judged by its respective citizens). So my take on it is we'd probably do a good job.
funkwurm, I'd have to say that you're not really going to convince me. I've lived in Europe and I definitely would not want Dutch people deciding the fate of Americans.
I think I'd rather the French took a crack at it because I think they hate us less. (cont.)
When I was in Holland I went to eight different banks before one let me open an account and that was just because I finally said I was Australian. I went to Paris and had a great time. Holland is beautiful and the Dutch are wonderful people but they hate on Americans too much to be involved in our politics. IMO.
me and my brother just checked out an abundance of katherines at the library and they only had one copy(darn it!) so i have to wait for my brother to read it first then i'll reqad it and i can't wait to read it!
I total feel you about the lawn I hate it so much its a nessary awsome. We love the yetti.
ps i think i spell yetti wrong. I agree with john on the underage thing and about the people from other countries because my father is not from here but he belives in the U.S's why or doing things and he's from africa.
..but then i realized, i DO want the netherlands to. .
haha so funny. . as a canadian i feel like i want to be involved in your country's political process because what your country does directly affects us and other countries, not to mention the global climate. . i want to contribute! lol
I agree, even in Australia whatever America does, our PM feels the need to back up whatever America's President says. Although I do reckon it's a load of bull, that's the way it is, so we should be entitled to have a say in your political process, after all theres more us (rest-of-the-world) than there is of you (Americans).
perhaps daniel biss can help us on this one and by help i mean do.
Number of murders seen on (american) TV by the time an average child finishes elementary school: 8,000(from 'realitytunnel')
Netherlands 2000 1.42, 2001 1.23, 2002 0.97,Last 0.97 (homicide rate per year per 100,000 inhabitants). population now 16,491,461 growth rate-0.49%- from 'wiki'pedia.
they made me take a test where I had to type the letters that were in the box, to make sure it was a human spamming not a computer. I failed the first time =(
OH MY GOD! WE, The Netherlands, better in politics?? Did I hear you say that? :D Okay, please google Balkenende for me and check out the pictures you get. THIS GUY is ruling our country!! YES! It's Harry Potter! And although I like Harry Potter, I'm not sure I want him to rule our country! So, please, watch carefully what you're wishing for the next time.

Hi John, I am reading Looking for Alaska right now and I also borrowed An Abundance of Katherines from the library. Looking for Alaska is so good so far and I can't seem to put it down. You see I am wondering what you are counting down to in the book. I have a feeling the poor kid is going to die. How sad!

So my take on it is we'd probably do a good job.
funkwurm 4 years ago
funkwurm, I'd have to say that you're not really going to convince me. I've lived in Europe and I definitely would not want Dutch people deciding the fate of Americans.
I think I'd rather the French took a crack at it because I think they hate us less. (cont.)
Anitra78 4 years ago
When I was in Holland I went to eight different banks before one let me open an account and that was just because I finally said I was Australian. I went to Paris and had a great time. Holland is beautiful and the Dutch are wonderful people but they hate on Americans too much to be involved in our politics. IMO.

me and my brother just checked out an abundance of katherines at the library and they only had one copy(darn it!) so i have to wait for my brother to read it first then i'll reqad it and i can't wait to read it!

haha so funny. . as a canadian i feel like i want to be involved in your country's political process because what your country does directly affects us and other countries, not to mention the global climate. . i want to contribute! lol
videoaddict459 4 years ago
I agree, even in Australia whatever America does, our PM feels the need to back up whatever America's President says. Although I do reckon it's a load of bull, that's the way it is, so we should be entitled to have a say in your political process, after all theres more us (rest-of-the-world) than there is of you (Americans).

NO You do NOT want the Dutch Government running the US. They don't even know that the hell they're doing HERE, let alone what they'd do in the US.
But then again, which country IS happy with thiere government? XD

I feel suddenly happy about the fact that I am allergic to grass and dust and can't do housework or yardwork.
dovesxfeather 4 years ago
A small part of me wishes I was allergic to grass.
I was unaware that people actually had grass allergies.
However, I do find it incredibly bad ass.
heatherdactyl 4 years ago
There are grass allergies. I'm allergic to like, everything, so my friends joke I should be in a bubble somewhere. But I'm allergic to plastic.

I'd have to agree with Hank on the Happy Meal Milkshake, so I just had to contribute xD
Statistics for ya ;D
