I Love The Video It Can Increase My Knowledge This video illustrates how early traffic signals warned motorists of approaching trains at intersections where railroad tracks actually shared the roadway with automobiles
Good, I like that you share this video, I wish success always trains at intersections where railroad tracks actually shared the roadway with automobiles.

We need this today for our surface LRT lines in Los Angeles. Currently there is no signal preemption for our street running sections... Ahh the politics of car culture...
In Renton WA they have a track down a road. All the lights at the intersections turn red, then flash. In old South Tacoma, although the tracks are just crossing the road, the lights flash there, too.
Some jurisdictions still use the all-red flash preempt, or sometimes, the lights on the street running parallel to the tracks will flash yellow while the cross street flashes red (so that traffic on the minor street opposite the tracks can still make a left turn onto the parallel street).
They still use this design here in California, if I'm not mistaken, at a particular intersection. All the intersections along the railroad line use the all-red flash instead of a smarter cross-traffic green. However, one intersection's cross street is a small connection street between Highway 101 and Vulcan Ave, which are separated by a track. The same thing would occur as in the video except the X light was a modified louvered pedestrian signal that would display "NO RIGHT TURN".
you should see our new traffic light systems in Phoenix for our light rail trains :) the light rail shares the road, and so the traffic lights have to give extra warning of an approaching train. it isn't foolproof however- there have been several accidents since the launch of the rail system earlier this year.
But why not give vehicles ahead of the train a green signal?
Green allows everyone to proceed and move out of the way.
They can't pull over if vehicles ahead are stopped.
As a little boy in visiting grandparents in Lewsitown, PA, I remember a STEAM LOCOMOTIVE approaching behind our car. I was a little worried it would catch up to us. The track is in the middle of the street.
Sorry my father did not pull over and stop and allow us to watch.
we got the same thing here in indiana, in muncie, got a traffic light on the train track crossing, so when there is a train coming, it switches to all red light flashing, until the train completed the crossing, then it cycles in normal operation, pretty neat too!!
I wouldn't worry about the lights warning people, if it is in the way the train is going to knock it out of the way. The train gets around one way or the other.

All traffic signals I have seen on youtube go to an all red flash when a train hits a certain point to cross the intersection.

I miss this preempt. It excited me all the time when a train would come to town and the traffic lights acted crazy during preempt.
