Just trying to set up my new tv tuner. All has gone well ----------but how do you get it to WORK?! ----have tv come out of my laptop. ??? Now IF I have to physically HOOK my laptop to my cable receiver -- what's the point of watching things over my laptop? Why not just watch on my regular tv? I thought this would make for an additional "tv" on which I could watch adult tv, not kids' tv!  :(

No subscription required. The signal needed by the TV tuner would be the one coming from either the cable service on the wall or the included Antenna

you dont actualy need the IE receiver up there i have my desktop and my laptop side by side and when ever i watch tv on my desktop i use the remote to turn on media center and when i press it it turns the laptop on and it boots up so annoying

In addition to the TV card connection, you need to make sure that the remore IR connector is plugged in to one of the USB 2.0 ports. Assuming you have installed the driver for the HP TV Tuner card, open the the Windows Media Center and point to the TV option. The initial setup should popup prompting you to tell the system your location and cable provider so the proper Channel and/or Station IDs and programming can be downloaded from the Microsoft Media Center server.

Yes. it should come with instructions. but if you need to know now: you need to plug this little adaptor to the tv card (if your laptop comes with it instead of a built-in internal tv tuner). The other end of the adaptor is the coaxial antenna plug, which can be connected to the included arial or the wall cable outlet in your home.

no. no downloads needed. The tv card that came with the laptop also came with the software needed to run it.

After the installation, the start up wizard that comes up asks questions like the Cable company providing the service to the house, the laptop's location (i.e., zip code/city state), which the Windows Media software needs to determine the "TV Guide"-like content it will show on the screen.
