The story is about a person who goes to a land where the people believe the watermelon to be a living creature that is to be feared. He suddenly cuts it open in front of them and eats it. They take him to be some type of cannibal and so kill him as punishment. Another stranger passing that way, who is also a student of a sufi shaykh, teaches the people slowly, in stages, and in a way that they can understand that this is simply a fruit, thereby removing thier ignorance/fear of the unknown.
