@lifesaver173 The lancets they had in the 1970s would leave you sore the next day. Now the next day I can't tell you which finger the blood bank used!
When I was little, Mom made a point of telling me several times that I would need to give a urine specimen. It is not that hard for a boy to pee in a bottle.
It would be especially helpful to explain how a parent can help his/her child deal with the possibility (or in some cases, the inevitability) of getting shots or needing to have blood samples drawn. Hopefully, the nurse or doctor will be kind enough to use a topical anesthetic & wait till it works before poking the kid.
