to each his own. I usually do not bring alcohol with me when I ride anywhere on the bike but have plenty of fuel in the tank. also having ridden a motorbike for several hours is a noisier business than cooking on any stove. my experience with alcohol burners is also they are VERY prone to wind. but as I say - do what you like.
Perfect example the only advantage over an alcohol stove is if you want to cook fast for a group or melt snow / cook at high altitude. The smell of gas (some always spills), the death of silence by roar (this video reminded me of that), the constant tinkering of the pump, the need for spare parts and the weight/bulk are deal killers for sure. Once you light up an alcohol stove and boil water silently and smell free in only 5 minutes doing it in 4 minutes doesn't seem that important.
Does any one who can give me suggestions or other option on how to repair my primus multi fuel. because the problem is the aluminum pipe tht is on top of the stove was broken. Even if i try to repair it still the air will leak and it cause the gas to leak to..
Hmm, don't know, seems that some care have to be taken with this and it is not that simple about after a whole day trekking.. but petrol is easy to get everywhere thats clear. It sounds
@Dorsch123 I've heard of people successfully running MultiFuel EX on rape oil and rape oil mixed with alcohol, but you would have devil's own job cleaning the stove, plus the smell of French fries is quite unbearable :-P
@megasimon999: I didn't clean the bottle when switching fuels and it worked fine. The priming is done in order to vaporize the fuel so that the stove works efficiently. But it always worked.
I had one of these but it blew up and took out a whole city, killing 23,412 worms, chickens, frogs, elephants, donkeys, aligators, dogs, snakes, lions, goats, cats, giraffes, horses, polar bears, ducks, monkeys, bats, owls, penguins, rabbits, fish, jelly fish, guinea pigs, sharks, zebras, foxes, bears and dolphins :(
well, it is one of the most recognised designs in the western world. it is effective and it is loud. if you want to boil quicker and quieter go for Coleman stove or simply a Russian Shmel /Hornet/. If the size is not paramount they cost a fraction of Primus and Coleman and as far as the heat they produce is concerned they leave those expensive sisters in the dust!!! Soon I will upload a film with Shmel so you will see for yourself.
oh man... ;) I do not have that much time to wait for the whole 1l bottle to go ;) I would say more than 2 hrs on average but this is just my wild guess. normally when on a motorbike I have some fuel with me always so I do not really care and the 1l container is waaay too big to honest.
to northerbrewer: when you place a saucepan on it it becomes very stable donot worry ;) it just doesn't not take much space and is light as viewed from the power point of view ;)
uh... I only used it with gasoline and white spirit but as I know it can be also used with kerosene and diesel - the only problem is that you shoud should have some other light fule for priming.
Having tried a lot of small stoves I still find the R8 and the 500 Speedmaster the best ( 500 best of all for actualy cooking ) this new stoves with the detachable tank and light burner work great but are not as stable as a heavy stove. Rather have a heavy stove is what I am saying but I don't hike my gear too old for that silliness now lol
sorry - just used it with white spirit: cheap, easy to run, easy to obtain where I live.
as to MSR - good but quite expensive. I'd rather spend this extra cash on good pots and get myself another second hand primus - they're bullet proof ;) I still have and use an old primus 'cube' 8R stove. it rocks!
primus sucks! ahuahuahuhua

Now i have the multifuel ex and today i gave it a try, and it is not very loud.
Some people say that this stove is very, very loud but it is not!
(i ran it on benzine) (Nearly no carbon black and no smell, just the impact plate was carbon black).

Can it run on rape oil (colza oil)?
I think it will because it even runs with diesel...
Could you help?

Why do you keep pushing the bottle closer to the fire?

I love this particular stove. I used it in Iraq with diesel. Lots of black smoke, but it worked. Hot tea, coffee and hot water for shaving.

@killslowly After using one type of fuel diesel in your case would you need to clean out the bottle to use a different fuel?
why do you need to prime it first?
thanks

Hello! I was wondering if somebody knows where to get a new fuelpump for my multifuel stove. Some part broke of after 8 years of big-use.
Thanks in advance, Neire.
