There has never been a song written like this before or since. Utterley unique and a great song. I even named my baby Daughter Emily, partly in tribute to this song. Love it!!
This was the first 45rpm single I bought downstairs in Woolworths Birimgham New Street. I/ve always loved Pink Floyd and bought all of their albums. Have always loved their sole guitar pieces. They/ve bought a lot of pleasure to my life, thank you. xxxx
I'm not sure what people dislike when they dislike the video..is it the poor quality of the picture, or the sound? Is it the song? Is it the band? Is it a plane? Is it a car? It's quite possible that they are clumsy, and press dislike button by mistake...in a nutshell, dislike button is stupidest button on planet. Just sayin'..
@throbule I get that. It would be great if it was a bit more specific, like this comment..:) I was just trying to be funny, but I failed, I guess...:D I dislike my poor sense of humor. ;)
Hello Syd fans could you guys take a moment to check out my song its called "the majority" i wrote it a while ago but i uploaded it the other day. id appreciate your comments its on my profile favourites.
Syd was a beautiful peculiar mind that collapsed under his own genious, had he not driven Pink Floyd's early unique sound a whole generation of rock led by David Bowie and Brian Eno would have been so very different. Thank you Syd and happy birthday!
Hey, I'm in a band called Blue Shift, and we are greatly inspired by Pink Floyd and one day hope to achieve even a fraction of the success they had, and restore meaning back into music. If you could give our song 'Being/Salvation' a listen, a thumbs up and give us some feedback it'd be absolutely fantastic :) Thank you! youtube.com/watch?v=bfF72INA5nw
I whish could time travel back to the late 60s and be a pop or rock star just for one week to live A totally hedonistic live of great music lots woman and pschedellcs and dress in flamboyant clothhing, wood i want come back to england of 2011 no fucking way
@zandos27 - I'd go back even without the star bit! I was only a tiny child but I still remember the feel of the psychedelic era and I so wish I had been 15 years older!
@budniismo Somewhere in Belgium. Strange really because The Moody Blues filmed a video for 'Legend of a mind' in Belgium. I don't know the reason why Belgium was chosen.
The fasinating era of the psychedelic sound is something so distant from modern production. Yet it remains fresh and inviting to any generation that chooses to discover the albums of recording groups from the period. Emily is fine example of the genre and is a Pink Floyd favorite.
@johnnycheck99 - It's usually recognized as the period from 1966 to 1970. One can point out examples before or later, but that's generally accepted as the height of it.

THERE WAS AN OVER LAP WHEN SYD AND DAVE BOTH CONTRIBUTED ALTHOUGH SYD LESS AND LESS WHEN IT BECAME APARANT SYD WAS TOTALY DISFUNCTIONAL DUE TO EITHER DRUGS OR A MENTAL BREAKDOWN DAVE WAS BACK UP FOR SYD BEFORE HE REPLACED HIM !
@deewilki The thing is Syd was diagnosed with Scizophrenia and as you suggest the breakdown was probably down to that more than drugs. In fact a lot of people think in some ways the drugs may have extended his life, but that's another story for men in suits to discuss and decide what we're allowed to consume on their say so.. Anything that can be taxed usually survives ;)
@DomKreamy are you sure as his sister and close family doubt the diagnosis im sure but neither here nor there syd is a tallent that we should embrace rip syd
@ProcolHarum1967 Filmed in March 1968 when Syd was indeed 'absent' (i believe that is the term). Also Moody Blues filmed 'Legend of a Mind' in January 1968 in Belgium!!!! Don't know if they were friends.
@Bool1995 Simply because, for the reasons that you may well know, he was no longer in the band. This caused a very peculiar situation; since the singles he made with the band were still on the market, they had to promote them appearing on television with their new guitarist (David) doing a playback!
This is why you can find "Apples And Oranges" with Roger lip-syncing to Syd, or this one, where no 'lead' singer is clearly recognizable...
@Bool1995 David had just joined the band technically while Syd was still a member and he wrote this song and he sang this song with them aswell but he wasn't included in the video for some reason.

@Gorrrillla5 That is true. The Floyd were a quintet at one time, with Dave and Syd in it at the same time. The rest is history. Incredible how they became a trio. Well, not quite, as they had 6 members join them on tour during the late 80s.

@Stashiky:
Its simple really.
The sound on this is quite dreadful. It has been processed by the video maker with some shit effects, or maybe its just a really bad copy.
The original (which I have) is so much better in sound quality.
So I too pressed the dislike button.
That's what its there for if one dislikes what is offered.
