  • Great song, great video!

  • There has never been a song written like this before or since. Utterley unique and a great song. I even named my baby Daughter Emily, partly in tribute to this song. Love it!!

  • This was the first 45rpm single I bought downstairs in Woolworths Birimgham New Street. I/ve always loved Pink Floyd and bought all of their albums. Have always loved their sole guitar pieces. They/ve bought a lot of pleasure to my life, thank you. xxxx

  • love to see Emily play.... wharr? more tea vicar?

  • Where is Sid?

  • I'm not sure what people dislike when they dislike the video..is it the poor quality of the picture, or the sound? Is it the song? Is it the band? Is it a plane? Is it a car? It's quite possible that they are clumsy, and press dislike button by mistake...in a nutshell, dislike button is stupidest button on planet. Just sayin'..

  • @Stashiky:

    Its simple really.

The sound on this is quite dreadful. It has been processed by the video maker with some shit effects, or maybe its just a really bad copy.

The original (which I have) is so much better in sound quality.

So I too pressed the dislike button.

That's what its there for if one dislikes what is offered.

  • @throbule I get that. It would be great if it was a bit more specific, like this comment..:) I was just trying to be funny, but I failed, I guess...:D I dislike my poor sense of humor. ;)

  • Hello Syd fans could you guys take a moment to check out my song its called "the majority" i wrote it a while ago but i uploaded it the other day. id appreciate your comments its on my profile favourites.

  • they're playfun!

  • such a funny clib is this?:D

  • Nick Mason's miming of playing the drums is a damn sight more animated than his drumming ever was.

  • el mejor tema de pink floyd!

  • me gusta el nombre de tu "canal"

  • after Ummagumma they started to suck

  • @spaski3 dark side

  • I disagree, I think Pink Floyds best era was between 1971-1979.

  • Pink Floyd's best era!

  • If Syd wrote and played the song, why is David in the video? O.O

  • @Loto9000 They where both in the band at the same time, at one point, although I do not remember when.

  • Happy birthday you crazy diamond!

  • Syd was a beautiful peculiar mind that collapsed under his own genious, had he not driven Pink Floyd's early unique sound a whole generation of rock led by David Bowie and Brian Eno would have been so very different. Thank you Syd and happy birthday!

  • This was my first concert at the 'Pannenhuis' in Antwerp with Syd Barrett. Was it '67 or '68 ? don't remember much (Alzheimer, haha !).

  • Poor Roger. He looked like a puppet back then...

  • Someone: 'Fxxk art, it's all about the money.

Syd Barret: 'You shouldn't say that. I've studied art for seven years. It's important. That's what it's all about.'

  • I whish could time travel back to the late 60s and be a pop or rock star just for one week to live A totally hedonistic live of great music lots woman and pschedellcs and dress in flamboyant clothhing, wood i want come back to england of 2011 no fucking way

  • @zandos27 - I'd go back even without the star bit! I was only a tiny child but I still remember the feel of the psychedelic era and I so wish I had been 15 years older!

  • Who is the drummer??

  • @johnnycheck99 Nick Mason is the drummer

  • You gotta love Nick at the start going fucking crazy on the "drums"

  • I wonder what pink floyd would sound like without Sid barret.?

  • @kaptainbastard Well, if you listen to every album after The Piper at the gates of Dawn then you see how Pink Floyd sounds without Syd

  • @gobenko LOL- I know,I was being sarcastic or something.

I like pink floyd with sid barret stuff better.

The first album i ever bought was Relics, worn it out by playing it so much.and it still sounds new to me.

    What a genius.

  • @kaptainbastard A bus ticket stuck on a window?

  • what's this place? someone can tell us? please!

  • @budniismo Somewhere in Belgium. Strange really because The Moody Blues filmed a video for 'Legend of a mind' in Belgium. I don't know the reason why Belgium was chosen.

  • What the HELL were they on?

  • @johnnycheck99 darned if i know , but as sadam used to say , it must have been the mother of all drugs

  • LOOOOOOOOOOOOL

  • The fasinating era of the psychedelic sound is something so distant from modern production. Yet it remains fresh and inviting to any generation that chooses to discover the albums of recording groups from the period. Emily is fine example of the genre and is a Pink Floyd favorite.

  • @MisterEvasion How long did the psychadelic era last?

  • @johnnycheck99 - It's usually recognized as the period from 1966 to 1970. One can point out examples before or later, but that's generally accepted as the height of it.

  • @johnnycheck99 i usually have a bottle of red wine , and i am back in the psychadelic era until it wears off , then its back to dull old 2011 and the 21st century zzzzzzzzzzzhhh.

  • My second name is Emilia, in english...Emily <3

  • Es un clasico!!!!!!

  • Good

  • for ever and ever

  • 1:13

    Rocket Launcher

  • has anyone else got this nostalgic and a bit melancholic feeling when playing this song?

  • What album was this from? I should know considering I have every album, haha.

  • @DanikaJadeee It was a single. It was one of the first so it's not on any album. Don't worry you didn't just erase a song from your memory haha

  • @Enzeraika2325 Okay, thanks :)

  • なぜシドがすでに、いないんだ?

  • THERE WAS AN OVER LAP WHEN SYD AND DAVE BOTH CONTRIBUTED ALTHOUGH SYD LESS AND LESS WHEN IT BECAME APARANT SYD WAS TOTALY DISFUNCTIONAL DUE TO EITHER DRUGS OR A MENTAL BREAKDOWN DAVE WAS BACK UP FOR SYD BEFORE HE REPLACED HIM !

  • @deewilki The thing is Syd was diagnosed with Scizophrenia and as you suggest the breakdown was probably down to that more than drugs. In fact a lot of people think in some ways the drugs may have extended his life, but that's another story for men in suits to discuss and decide what we're allowed to consume on their say so.. Anything that can be taxed usually survives ;)

    RIP Syd.

  • @DomKreamy are you sure as his sister and close family doubt the diagnosis im sure but neither here nor there syd is a tallent that we should embrace rip syd

  • Awww wonderful song

  • Only Roger, Nick, Wright and David appear on this video right?

Also, what year was this? It's kinda weird to see that Dave is playing with them, i thought this was way before he joined PF

  • @EDVM13 I imagine this is 1968 probably just after Syd left. David joined while Syd was still in the band.

  • @ProcolHarum1967 Filmed in March 1968 when Syd was indeed 'absent' (i believe that is the term). Also Moody Blues filmed 'Legend of a Mind' in January 1968 in Belgium!!!! Don't know if they were friends.

  • @johnnycheck99 Not sure if they were friends but I imagine they crossed paths a few times.

  • Why isn't Syd in this video?

  • They sound pretty similar to The Beatles here

  • Волшебная музыка!!!

  • love the fact that Nick Mason can fake drum...... and an amazing film.

  • love the fact that Nick Mason can fake drum......

  • i admire the truck driver who thought "what the fuck are those guys doing?" back then

  • is syd in this vid? where is he?

  • @Bool1995 He is not. That's David ;)

  • @Herod9 why is syd not in it?? :OO

  • @Bool1995 Simply because, for the reasons that you may well know, he was no longer in the band. This caused a very peculiar situation; since the singles he made with the band were still on the market, they had to promote them appearing on television with their new guitarist (David) doing a playback!

This is why you can find "Apples And Oranges" with Roger lip-syncing to Syd, or this one, where no 'lead' singer is clearly recognizable...

  • @Bool1995 David had just joined the band technically while Syd was still a member and he wrote this song and he sang this song with them aswell but he wasn't included in the video for some reason.

  • I love those cars in the background that are classics now.

  • I ALWAYS IMAGINED SYD BARRATT AS BEING A SOMEWHAT JIMI HENDRIX LOOKALIKE RECLUSE. IT WAS ONLY WHEN HE PASSED AWAY (FEATURING PHOTOS OF HIM) WAS SURPRISED TO SEE HOW "NORMAL" HE LOOKED. ITS A GREAT PITY THAT HE WASNT ABLE TO ENJOY THE BAND'S SUCCESS (COULDNT HANDLE THE PRESSURES OF FAME) " SEE EMILY PLAY" IS AN BRILLIANT CLASSIC SONG (HAVE TRIED (UNSUCCESSFULLY) TO GET HOLD OF THIS FOR OVER 3 DECADES. RIP SID

  • If you're gonna sack Syd at least don't ponce his creativity like this. The most shameless video ever made.

  • Is Syd the one dressed in black that plays the guitar?

  • @leonardofra80 No, that's David.

  • @leonardofra80 yeah with the black hat on :)

  • @leonardofra80 there's not syd in this video

  • @ararearacnid kind of saddening isn't it?

  • @leonardofra80 no Syd is not in this video, that David he had just joined the band while Syd was still a member aswell.

  • @Gorrrillla5 That is true. The Floyd were a quintet at one time, with Dave and Syd in it at the same time. The rest is history. Incredible how they became a trio. Well, not quite, as they had 6 members join them on tour during the late 80s.

  • 38 people accidentally clicked dislike

  • No drugs were harmed duing the production of this song.

  • @lewisner They were pretty abused haha

  • @lewisner - lmao. Thankyou!! I needed a good laugh.....

    Perth

    Western Australia. :)

  • Goooooood

  • ciao Syd

  • They who hate Pink Floyd hath no soul.

  • 37 bastards. We fuckin' hate you.

  • Syd's not there. Dave Gilmour is but no Syd.

This little fillum must have been made some time after SEP charted because Syd was still reportedly still mostly compos mentis at that time.

Presumably he was due to be in this but was away off somewhere and too busy recording himself chucking brussels sprouts into a watering-can.

  • One of my favourite Floyd tunes, very playful and dare I say it happy

  • These sure are some weird-ass geniuses :D

  • I get mad with this song!!!

  • Can anybody tell me where this was recorded? i wanna go there and play invisible drums xD

  • @michelJL76 1967 or '68. This could only have recorded when pyschedilia [sic] was at its peak!

  • @michelJL76 In Holland or Belgium, I think...

  • how high are they LOL. amazing song.

  • We named my son after this song.

  • @lostsoleful You called your son Emily ?

  • @TheMetalMachineMusic someone did not learn from Johnny Cash

  • @TheMetalMachineMusic No, silly; They called their son "See-Emily-Play". It's quite a common name actually.

    Regards,

    See-Emily-Play Jones

  • @TheMetalMachineMusic

It's better name than a boy named Sue [grin]

  • @gilmourguitar123 well the curse of being a civil engineer; but i have seen the video so many times that i have seen them all

  • so sick actually

  • SO FUCKING GOOD.

  • This is my daughter's song.

  • LOL Nick, you're so high.

  • @ThePaulpFiction my father's song

  • Imagine driving past that park and seeing a young pink floyd.....crazy to think about.

  • @goodvibesallround

I had the same brilliant idea!

  • Beautiful! Amazing! Im stoned. lol !

  • muy buena rola me encanta el psicodelic de sid berret my bueno

  • @katochnr :)))) very nice question :)

  • que mal audio loco. un bajon

  • what's that beautiful bridge in the background??

  • It's 1977 and I'm 17-all big hair and attitude on my Suzuki AP50 Sports Moped. A weekend in Shrewsbury with my old mate, John, hanging out in dingy biker pubs with great juke boxes. This song is imprinted on my mind to this day.

  • hilarious clip xD

  • This song is fucking uderrated!!!!!

  • looks like a footage video

  • Where is Rick Wright in this video? I might be wrong, but I see Gilmour, Syd, Roger and Nick. Where's Rick?

  • @TheSpoilerOfDreams The guy that seems like Syd to you is Rick.

  • @TheSpoilerOfDreams No, the one that it's missing it's Syd.Pretty ironic

  • OMG...that´s great, i love this song

  • looks like they are having a lot of fun in the park

  • Looks like Noel Fielding found a time machine.

  • when I saw this video I miss something that I didn't live

  • Syd Barrett died, but look at the positive side, his peace is now where it emanates and which establishes his music!

    Sid Barrett live forever!

  • @MeAndTheDeadPeople he lives forever as long as his music is played

  • See Emily replay...

  • Maaan, I love this song!

  • The only time Nick ever took acid.

  • ooh way Syd?

  • nice video

  • seee eee eee Emily PLAY!

  • I wonder how Pink Floyd would have turned out if Syd was able to be stable and stay as the lead vocalist and guitarist?

  • my sister was named after this song

  • @BwsHattie so was mine( big sister )

  • 35 people don't like this!! No soul. The greatest "pop" record in the Universe of All Time. I am speechless. Shine on Syd, you crazy diamond.

  • ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ஜ۩۞۩ஜ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

SHUT UP AND ENJOY THE MUSIC!

    ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ஜ۩۞۩ஜ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

  • I like the Beatles and I love Pink Floyd but this song sounds a lot like a Beatles song.

  • Esto era Pink Floyd...despues cambio de nombre a Roger Waters Band.

  • @komaxlaredo No exactamente... ;)

  • Where's Syd in this vid? The guitarist in there is Gilmour

  • @TrailBlazer96 On the best of Echoes

  • Syd isn't in this video, I'm sure of it, the other guy is Dave Gilmore, I thought this was way before he cracked up?

  • @manicbabyshambles123 yes he seems dave, not syd

  • seeeeeeeee emily playyyyyyy

  • AIR DRUMS

  • lot less traffic on the roads back then.....

  • this song is so beautiful. I´m naming my daughter after this song.

  • WHEN HE DIED SO DID PINK FLOYD

  • When I was a kid I had three 7" singles of my own all bought by the parents, and this was one of them (How I got that past them I'll never know). Many year later I bought "Relics" so I got it again!

Wish I still had them both now :(

But, what the hell, I had them, and I can still replay them any time from memory!!

  • My dad was telling me, back in 1968 his mother bought him this record because she was sick of all the 'drug music' he had and she thought it looked nice :P

  • This song is beautiful, one of their best

  • @BaKairo88 Syd isn't here.

  • kids dont do drugs!! or w/e

  • which one is Syd ?!

  • Pink Floyd oor Beatles?? :S

  • @jorgebochguerrero two different styles of music dude...

  • @kristian826 actually there's not that much of a difference between late Beatles and early Pink Floyd. They sound so Beatles inspired in this song. And no doubt they were.

  • @japsesokk early Floyd was purely Psychedelic... even tho they might have sounded similar at the time, they were as said 2 different musical styles...

but nonetheless both are one of the greats of music industry and you can't go around comparing who's better, because that is subjective... The Beatles were the bing bang success while Pink Floyd gradually gained recognition and fame, they both created great music and we should be thankfull for those things :P

  • There's just too much too say...............
