Why doesn't he reach up and stop the pendulum with his hands? It's set to cut his stomach, so it's not really out of reach. Sure his hands might get cut but if he stops the momentum and gets the pendulum out of the way, he'd survive.

@zevex747 You're assuming it's working purely on momentum. There's the possibility it has being mechanically forced one way and the other. That or it could have a mechanism that just drops it straight onto him if it's hindered at all. Plenty of ways how trying to stop it doesn't help.

@Spazman100 the beginning of saw 3 the guy didn't make it out in time but during the investigation they said the door was sealed shut, so even if he took the hook out of his jaw he would have still died. also saw 3 the girl in the rib cage trap, she did what she was suppose to do but never had a chance of getting out of the trap. also the last trap in saw 3, there was no way to save that guy because there wasn't a lock for the key to save the guy. so am i right or wrong?

that pendulum in real life wouldnt actually kill him. it would eventually hit his skin, cut maybe an inch through him, then would loos momentum from the resistance and friction of his skin, then it would stop. saw that on machines of malice on the discovery channel.

But yeah, I don't think it would kill him, probably just cut through most of the fat and some of the stomach lining, but this would only happen if it were pure physics swinging this pendulum. In fact, if it were just physics, it would cut through a bit of his stomach and stop because of the friction of the cut. However, if it were a pendulum that is electricly opperated, then yes, it would kill him
