what i find strange is the blanket ban on gay men giving blood. when STI infections are growing faster in the Heterosexual groups of people between the ages of 18-24. this just makes no seance that one group can't because of a potechical threat of infected blood. while you could have a person who is not gay could have had unprotected sex while drunk not rember the incident and then be a curia for HIV, Hep B ect. then give blood and is missed in the screaming process
I'm just about to donate my 43rd unit of blood, and I can assure anyone that it really, honestly doesn't hurt, unless you're needlephobic, and then of coures, nothing that anyone can say will persuade you to turn up.Not until someone you love needs it,that is.Just go..be a brave little boy/girl !
@bowllyrolly I'm needlephobic (i think) but i guess under old rules I'd bring myself to give blood. But when I was born, me and my mum both had blood transfusions - she had 13 units and I had 2 - so therefore we cannot give blood. My dad still tried to give blood but they ended up telling him not to as it was too hard for them to find a vein
We are really grateful for people like you giving blood and everyone should try to, otherwise i'd be dead and so would many other people
I would be more than happy to donate blood. Pity that my blood is not good enough for you. Because I'm gay I'm considered to be too high risk to donate blood - despite the NHS equally telling me that I'm HIV Negative following my last blood test and with no consideration as to whether I engage in any kind of sexual activity that would actually put me at risk.
i know that you won't put my comment on about STI's but i just won't to know. it seems a bit silly to me.
me personally would never won't a blood transfuishion due to the logical flaws in your screening systems
