Ha, cool man. The thing is, just bc your father didn't get a bill doesn't mean he and other people didn't pay for it. It wasn't free. Do you think a bunch of other people are obligated to pay for your fathers healthcare? Because they did, and they didn't have a choice. I'm not tryin to rain on your canadian healthcare parade. Its just not perfect and the US system isn't nearly as bad as you think. Pros and cons. Just wait until the next big tech is developed (in the US no doubt) and watch while it takes Canada a decade to catch up while its use is routine in the states. Its really in your best interest for US healthcare to remain unsocialized so you can continue to benefit from US research, tech, new drugs, and tx development.
I just can't understand why you think the united states comes out with all the technology when you don't. We have lots of medical researches here. Remember we invented insulin for diabetics, canadians invented the new aids drug that prolongs your life so not everything is invented or came out in the u.s. etc.etc. list goes on and on alot of country's have contributed to medical advances around the world not just untied states. uk nhs is government controlled, restricted by budget & massive cut's to help cut the country's deficit. out of date cancer drugs are being used is just one example. hospitals that overspend are unable to supply decent levels of healthcare so depending on what area you live can mean the difference between life & death.

Hospitals and the physicians are independently-run, by the way. In addition, the same can be said about the Dutch system where basic coverage costs are controlled, and yet this is in a largely private industry.

The banking industry is another example of govt interference hitting all of us hard. Like telling lending agencies who they have to make loans to, etc.
Cell phone industry? $30/month is a pretty good deal. No complaints with them.

Communism is the government run by the people, the government paying for everything, just like a huge community, which almost all European countries are. Socialism is a dictatorship. Is probably the most democratic form of government to exist (or to NOT exist). Socialism is a dictatorship. Being democratic doesn't prevent a country from being Communist, since it isn't a dictatorship. A Capitalist country can be democratic or not (Fascism). A "Socialist" can be democratic (Communism) or not.

Communism and Democracy are both government systems. A dictatorship is it's own completely different thing. Anarchy is the complete lack of any overarching governmental authority. You paint a rosy picture but just bc you don't see a bill doesn't mean its free. Come on. The system is good for certain things but w/ socialized medicine you lose profit based inventive and things will stagnate. Ever wonder why a vast majority of medical breakthroughs, technology, new drugs are developed in the US? Incentive. That incentive ends up raising the standard of care for everyone in the long run. The US also has the best medical schools and training programs in the world.

Ugh, its not just doctors... Its the entire health care industry. You don't know much about the US system--no insurance company is deciding my fate any more than the Canadian govt is deciding yours. US doctors make more bc the government isn't artificially holding prices down for their services. You are slowly going through a brain drain and many of the best Canadian doctors run to the US to practice here.

You have lots of ppl from other countries train in Canada IF they fail to get into a US school. It's their 2nd choice and thats a fact. It's actually not simple, at all. You are confusing availability/uniform access to care with quality of care. They are not the same. I actually don't think that care in Canada is bad... However, just because everyone has access to something doesn't mean the quality of what they are accessing is higher or better. Just like any other industry, the best get paid the most here. Most of the top Canadians practice here. I like maple syrup so throw away.

Same medical equipment? Except Canada has 4.6 MRI scanners per million ppl while the US has 19.5. Hopefully you don't need to wait 18 weeks while a metastisizing tumor spreads and becomes inoperable. Radiodiag is pretty basic for almost everything these days and Canada had an even more severe shortage of CT/MRI scans in the past. It only took 10+ years to fix that. Why? Bc no one had a profit incentive to fill the void and govt central planners are ALWAYS slow to react.

Dude my father got luekemia at age 49 years old which is cancer of the blood. He not only was in and out of the hospital for three years in downtown toronto. He didn't pay one penny they paid for his bone marrow tansplant and all the chemo he went through for free dude. In the states my father wouldn't have survived his cancer his hospital bills would have been over 500,000 thousand dollars. Instead it cost him nothing we didn't see one single bill not one. Keep your insurance card buddy!

I'm not tryin to rain on your canadian healthcare parade. Its just not perfect and the US system isn't nearly as bad as you think. Pros and cons. Just wait until the next big tech is developed (in the US no doubt) and watch while it takes Canada a decade to catch up while its use is routine in the states. Its really in your best interest for US healthcare to remain unsocialized so you can continue to benefit from US research, tech, new drugs, and tx development.

I just can't understand why you think the united states comes out with all the technology when you don't. We have lots of medical researches here. Remember we invented insulin for diabetics, canadians invented the new aids drug that prolongs your life so not everything is invented or came out in the u.s. etc.etc. list goes on and on alot of country's have contributed to medical advances around the world not just untied states. I feel that it's extremely fair when compared to other national systems we have, look at social security, probably the most flawed program that's ever been approved in the United States. a man died in the waiting room after 20hrs of waiting,its sad!

Yes, wait times suck. Unfortunately, we are still living with the cutbacks instituted by the Mulroney government in the early 90s.
I don't know what province you're in, but if you're in a province that uses triage to determine who gets to see the doctor first, you have to understand that emergency rooms are for *serious* cases -- you probably could have gone to a doctor's office for treatment and seen a doctor faster.
