i love to go back to the days when my father (jimmy williams} played with carroll gibbons at the savoy...he played sax ,and was with him for some time .
@jack11anbar - Grzegorz' uploads are helping me compile a stellar music collection of this musical genre. My 425 playlists of up to 2 hrs each let you hear sounds of any of the past 120 years. Listen like you've gone back in time!
300 more lists let you hear 300 different artists and genres. Take a look?
Thanks Masquerade, in this recording the real revelation for me is the singing of Anne Lenner & George Melachrino. I remember from my early childhood the radio concerts with his name often mentioned as a bandleader, but I wouldn't ever think that earlier he used to be such a good singer!
Thanks fo posting this song. Just one thing - the female voice is ANNE Lenner, not Vanne. This I can tell you for certain because Anne Lenner is my Aunt.
Hi, and thanks!!! Ofcourse, I'm immediately correcting my note. So, you confirm it's her who sings here so beautifully ? I was not sure about it, as the label gives no details and only in the web I found some information about this recording (- not very correct, as it shows)
I believe my uncle Jeff Pretty played piano in the Savoy Orpheans just before the war (he certainly played piano at the Savoy Hotel until the outbreak of war) but I am not sure when he started with them. Would you know the names of any of the artistes?
"too much in love to say goodnight"....imagine. lovely sentiment and song. when i close my eyes i can see and hear shirley ross and bob hope doing this in the movie...this is a very nice version. thanks so much.
Thank you Bill3murr... Well, it's already the late evening here, so all what's left is listen to this lovely lullaby once more, and - go to sleep. ..Good night :D
You're the ultra-romantic you are. I don't think these horrible unromantic noughties are for you. Let's get a time machine and go back to the 20s or 30s. Your Polish mate Grzegorz has done it again.
This record is lovely. Thanks for sending it to me. I love the Savoy Orpheans and Carroll anyway. Carroll Gibbons was an American. One other interesting fact, one of the singers is George Melachrino. He went on to found his own successful orchestra.
Thank you, David. Such praise from a Britishman has a double value :-) The music is so ABSOLUTELY warm and tender, without any slightest sentimental exaggeration, so I thought that only the simplest - thus, the most refined -photographs can match it. And what can be simpler, and more meaningful, in the same time, than a kiss of love?
I love this, the music from this era is so much better than what we have today. Anne Lenner's voice is just lovely.

Charming song performed with great style by Gibbons and Savoy Orpheans in the Golden Days of the British Orchestras. Thanks Grzegorz!

It is true. I remember that my father had a Strauss Waltzes LP from the end of the fifties played with bravura by Melachrino for RCA.
