@stationmaster12 I used a Digitrax DCC decoder that is no longer made. I don't remember the number for it, but I do remember when I bought it, the store I got it from told me they were being discontinued.
If you look through the book and BLI's website, they usually reccommend a couple different decoders to use. I'm sure you can get a good one from Train Control Systems.
sound and look great ! but so did my BLI EMD's . The first one lasted 2 minutes the other 2 hours .. I finnally replaced there decoders with a single loksound running both loco's but that was not without its problems .
the first one cooked itself after a couple of min running , just stopped and buzzed . The second was running and sounding great then started jerking on acceleration and decelaration , then all the time . Im on my second loksound decoder and so far so good only time will tell . I would buy BLI again but not for a few years till there more reliable . I have found a few guys having similiar issues . One guy told me the problem is in the motors themselves , not working well with decoders . will see.
@kerethan Actually, I didn't have much trouble with the install at all. the programming was a little tricky, but there were some tips on their website. It all has to be done on the main line in ops mode, but once everything was programmed, I haven't touched it and it works great!!! Plus, this was a very good working loco for being so inexpensive.
Yeah I have heard some wicked good reviews about it, it sounds amazing and it sounds like it performs the same. Only problem is its not just the cost of the loco, everything else adds up too! Oh well, gotta pay to play I spose!
I was just asking because i got my engine, the hobby store programed it, and while it was on the test track the motor and sound decoder blew completely all of a sudden. It couldnt have been a track power surge? Ive also asked around my hobby club and people say broadway limited has some "quality issues" lately
I can't speak as far as the quality issues, however I do know that programming the BlueLine loco's is tricky. For instance, if you try to just program the loco on a program track, it will only program one of the two decoders and consequently, the loco won't sound or work right.
You have to program them in "Ops Mode" and then it should all be good. Again, I don't know if this is the problem you're facing, but it was mine. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help.
Actually they do. If you buy one of the BlueLine locomotives you can get a small controller that will activate the horn and bell and other sounds and lighting functions all on DC.
They actually have one on their wesite in the "Refurbished Deals" under "Accessories." Its called a "BLI-R1011 BlueLine DC Master" and its $31.99. You might want to think about getting it while its still available.
atlas switches???? have you ever had a problem with ur DASH units de-railing on the frogs?? i got one switch that does it and i can't figure out a fix
Actually, I've only had a problem with the dummy units. I used to have some problems with one switch, but I traded it to another location and it has worked great since. Maybe you could try switching it to a different location.
I'm pretty sure I got them from Arnie's Trains in Westminister, CA. I believe they are Atlas cars that they used to have on their big layout, and when the got rid of the layout to add shelves, they sold most of their rolling stock.
i know they are really nice but there are no genesis tankers the walthers goldline tanks are Extremely detailed & nice, i have tried running a atlas tank with my Ac6000 and it always dispatches from the locomotive thats why i dont like Accumate couplers w/ McHenry couplers together.
Yeah, that's why I always just trade them out to the Kadee couplers. Unfortunately, I really don't know what the cars are, but I don't think they are Athearn because of how much detail they have. That's why I was thinking Atlas, but they could be Walthers GoldLine. I don't honestly know though.
Cool! If you have DCC i have all of the CV's that you can address to make the loco run the correct way, make lights flash or not, etc! Let me know and I will be glad to help.
You will like the RSD-15. You can get it for a real good price at FDTs.The sound is very crisp and loud right out of the box.Having a DC Master is good too for horn and bell.
Any sisters? And truth be told, my brother isn't nearly as in to trains as I am. He occassionally goes to my friends place and runs trains. I'm the most serious one in my family.
yes i have 4 sisters no brothers and i am a boy. 13. ya im the ONLY train person in our family but i have a friend who got huge U-layout from his uncle and i will tape trains on his layout...until... i make m own!!! woo hoo!! may i ask? how old are you?
Yeah, the date kept getting pushed back further and further, and I thought I'd wait until some showed up in their factory direct outlet store, but no luck and the units were gone and hard to find. So when the BlueLine came out I bought one real quick! But Atlas makes really nice loco's too. Did you get them with sound? What company do you model?
What's that? If it's the trains, they're actually pretty cheap from factory direct trains dot com. You can get the BlueLines from them and then just get a decoder, or you can go to the BLI website and check out their factory direct.
yes the Bluelines Engines, My thing that I love about model Railroading is the sounds and the rumble of the engines and cars. So to be able to have that in scale when I finally build my layout would be so awesome!
Oh yeah, totally! I had always liked trains, but wasn't really that into modeling them until recently, and quite frankly now that there is sound,...! Well my vids show it all, I'm addicted and I'm not looking back! LOL!! Anyways, can't wait to see your layout, when you build it, and hear the sounds and the clickity clack! By the way, check out some of my Surfliner vids, and you will see that you can actually turn on that sound too!
Thanks a lot for posting this. I've been debating whether to buy a BLI loco, and the BlueLine AC6600 is looking pretty sweet. A lot of people have nit-picked them for some inaccuracies but I think it's pretty minor.
FYI, there's an interesting article on the web that compares all the currently-available SD40-2's and the author points out problems with each of them. I'd love to see Athearn Genesis do the SD40-2 series, now that they've done the SD45-2's.
Whoa, that's cool, what's the website? And no problem. I really like the BLI locomotives, although I did have trouble programming the BlueLine loco's at first, but now BLI posted the programming directions on their website and they work flawlessly!
I definitely recommend these models to anyone else who's interested.
The horn on the SD 40-2 is the one that actually is correct. The horn on the first-run BL AC6000's seems more like an Amtrak horn. I wish BL would correct that on subsequent runs of the AC6000, and offer a replacement module for first run AC6000's. Also the BL SD 40-2s could have operating ditch lights.
Yeah, I wish they looked a little more like the modern ones with the ditch lights too, but I guess I could always add them. Have you seen my other vids with my UP AC6000? That one has a different horn, that's pretty unique too. I'm not too familiar with the AC6000 and what horn is common on them.
Yeah, I'm not very familiar with the SD40-2's or the prototype horns that they used, but I did like that it was very unique when compared to the other more modern horns on my other loco's!
Once again going with my earlier comment. I have not really done well with some of the Big Boy videos, but some with the AC6000 I got some better lighting. I still watch your videos and I am beggining to understand lighting and angles.
Thanks! Hopefully I'll be making some more here soon. I've been really busy lately, but things seem to be calming down a little. And let me tell you, if you like SoCal trains, you're going to love my comming vids, and if you're not, well you'll still enjoy it because hey, it's still a train!
That should be cool, mine will actually be of models from the Southern California area, but I also like Brian's (BRIANamtrak) vids of the prototype stuff too!
Great video! I myself just bought a UNION PACIFIC AC6000 but in the BLUELINE series instaed of the "PARAGON" series. Good Sound and I hope I can do as well in making my videos.
That's really cool! The horn on the BlueLine AC6000 is a little different than the Paragon series, and to be honest, I like the BlueLine one more. As far as the vids, if I can do it, I'm sure you can! This video (in fact all of my vids except the "Connequennessing Line") are shot on my home layout that is only a 4'x8' table! Just use tight camera angles! Can't wait to see them!
The BlueLine is much cheaper. The CSX AC6000 (shown in this vid) is my brothers and it cost regularly about $250, but we got it from the BLI Factory Direct Store for about $150. The BlueLine you can get from factory firect trains dot com for about $120 plus shipping and handling. Then it's just a $30 or less decoder, a little programming and you're ready to go!
If you have DCC, absolutely get a decoder. If not, you can get another product from Broadway Limited that allows you to control some sounds without DCC, which is still pretty cool. They actually come with a list (or you can find it on their website) that says which decoders fit best and they recommend. Yes, all of the lights and cab interiors come with the model!
DCC stands for Digital Command Control. Basically you have a system that sends messages to each specific locomotive (decoder-which is basically a computer chip). You give the locomotive an address (usually easiest to use the number on the loco) and then you tell it what to do; go forward, backward, turn the headlights on, honk the horn, etc! Its really cool, but like I said, it isn't necessary if you have a BLI loco and their programmer. Its a cheaper alternative with some of the features.
It's only a 4'x8' layout! But one of my friends has a good sized layout in his garage with some extreme detail that I will be sure to make some videos of in the near future. The really cool one was our old club layout that used to be in San Clemente. It was 30'x18'! Now it's in a storage facility waiting to be put back together in my folks house once they retire and build the house. Should be cool!
Do you have a private layout? If so, how big is yours? I've also seen some of your vids from your club (which also looks really cool). How big is the club layout?
It was 119.99 and the shipping was free from factory direct trains dot com! Same price for the AC6000 that I got (UP-of course =)) and my bro's CSX was 149.99 from BLI's factory direct store. The only thing it had that the BlueLine's don't is a factory installed decoder! That's it, the sound is already there! You should check them out!
Again, to everyone watching this, I apologize for the "beeping" noise from the controller. My coming videos will be sure not to have that! Thanks again for watching!
Thanks! I'll do that.

@stationmaster12 Sure, lemme know if you have any trouble finding another decoder to fit.

CSXboy1 2 years ago
No, actually I've never had any problems with this loco. I have the Digitrax decoder that BLI suggested, installed in this loco, what about you?
I actually had more issues with my AC6000 BlueLine loco, but ever since I programmed it I haven't had any issues with that loco either.

I really like it with the random change in the pitch of the horn.
pwhite73 2 years ago
Its a AC6000 NOT A AC4400!!.
CSX2665 2 years ago
Which loco are you talking about?
The Union Pacific IS an AC4400 (made by Kato), not an AC6000. The CSX is an AC6000 made by Broadway Limited.
All of this is in the narrative.

I Thought he said the Csx!!.

DCC stands for Digital Command Control. Basically you have a system that sends messages to each specific locomotive (decoder-which is basically a computer chip).
