again failed unless you allow the planet to breath it'll just escape and the cheapest way of Terra-forming Mars is to slam asteroids from the asteroid-belt 'N' may also bring minerals/more life to the planet which doesn't hurt for more chances!
PEOPLE EVEN WITHOUT MAGNETIC FIELD MARS CAN HAVE BREATHABLE ATMOSPHERE FOR MAYBE THOUSAND-TWO THOUSAND YEARS AND FOR TWO THOUSAND YEARS WE CAN FIND SOLUTION TO CREATE ARTIFICIAL MAGNETIC FIELD!!!
@Darko2625 We even could be able to "switch on" Martian magnetic field : "Andrew Stewart, a planetary geochemist , said Mars' cooling core might restore magnetism to the red planet. "If liquid metal moves around a solid core, it could create a natural dynamo like the one found in Earth's core." The question is how to reach Martian core (app. 3000-4000 km under surface) ?
Without a Geomagnetic Field any "terraforming mars" is just blowing smoke. There are a lot of scientists out there who are opposed to human missions and settlements beyond our solar system. There are mining ops, a lot more rare earth elements on the moon and the asteroids then Earth! There is also the work done by the late Dr. O'Neill---Space Settlements at the "L-5" points around Earth. and other locations in the solar system. MINE THE MOON!
@TonyN737 A BIG THANK YOU TONY! I sure wish I could get a "straight answer" from those "scientists" who claim they can "Terraform Mars" but never answer(s) the 64 BILLION Dollar question since Mars does not have a magnetic field all the ideas about producing a "breathable atmosphere" is just "hot air"! Agree with you about H3! Thank You again for your comment!
@ccea07 He is not from America idiot, there are no smart people born in the USA. They are all from other continents. Michio is from Japan orginally....and most scientists and great leaders like obama for example are from Africa and Europe. The last REAL american was bush...proves my point. There are no real smart americans.
@Hermoor Obama, for one is not a great leader, and two was born in Hawaii, not Africa. You are getting race origin and birthplace mixed up, and to say that just because they are born in America, that means they are stupid is stupid in itself.
@Hermoor I don't believe you understand what ignorance is. It is not idiocy. They are not the same, though people CAN be both at the same time.
You're comments about Americans being idiots would be better suited for yourself, because only an idiot would believe a nation is full of idiots when there are very few idiots in the first place.
@ManifestationOfChaos you know, I do actually appreciate the fact that you said "the average american". When I see people say in generalization that "americans are stupid" i tend to get pissed, but your comment didn't even make me a little bit mad.
@Polydynamix OntDinRS is right on his count. Other countries have much more stringent guidelines for knowledge than we have. Their is so much competition for so few jobs that only the best & brightest get them. I work with someone who at university in her country was working parttime for a design company, they wanted her to be a model & she said no - education is more important. I personally think education should be free to all who want to learn. College attend. not necessary.
@theart1rm sure, places like japan have the strictest guidelines for schooling, but they are also a country filled with over educated unemployed citizens with the highest rate of depression and suicide on the planet, because of the competitive nature of the nation.
@ccea07 I don't know if it is true or not but I heard somewhere that he is considered the smartest man on the planet right now. Just saying. Don't know if that is a confirmation or not.
@MrGrevy His father was born in California, Michio was born in California..He's American and even if he was straight from Japan what does that have to do with his intelligence and contribution to the science community?
If he was from japan, that'd make him smarter. They're much stricter and push themselves to do better.
But it wouldn't make much difference race wise, the Asians are on average 5 I.Q. points smarter than white people, 9 I.Q. smarter on average than black people.
This was tested by testing 100 21 year old university students of different colours, all from the same town.
All these obstacles to terraforming mars are just engineering problems. Who's to say that in 50, 100, 200 years we won't have a mastery over planetary climates? This James Kasting character is very pessimistic and a bit near-sighted when it comes to terraforming mars. He bases everything on our current technology, even as capitalism and the profit system are the most obvious things holding technology back. Once capitalism is replaced, we can assume that our level of technology will explode.
Logically the further you move away from the sun the more Green house gas you would need to stabilize an atmosphere...... Seing that CO2 assists in warming our atmosphere though there is less than 1 percent of it as well as water vapor which is inconsistent. Now say you use hydrofluorocarbon's in bulk which is 1,200 times more potent than C02 and ozone friendly.... We have options. Optimism is livelyhood and aids for positive steps forward. Sounds like NASA landing on the moon
@uriel30 In fact it is indeed possible to terraform mars and sustain a thick atmoshpere regardless of the lack of a strong global magnetic field. Saturns moon Titan, for instance is smaller than Mars with lower gravity(comparable to the moon's) and no measurable magnetic field...Yet it houses an atmosphere 50 percent thicker than ours.... Venus has no magnetic field either and just look what it has....
@uriel30 Right on! Been saying this for yrs and it just seems to go into a person's ear and out the other and never get a comment about the fact that without a geomagnetic field any proto-atmosphere would be ripped apart by the sun's solar wind and its CMEs! There is another problem as well!
Dr. Kaku is one of my admired person in this multiverse next to Dr. Neil Alden Armstrong, just because my profession is an a commercial airline pilot. This Video is fantastic evidence of his most realistic view of immediate future of ours. I always enjoy his opinion and his foresight. Go Dr. Kaku!!!,
Perhaps mars has petroleum reserve.Just drill it out n set it on fire.
