The JJC Percussion Ensemble ROCKS this!!!! Wish I had footage of us to post. Maybe soon cuz we'll be doing this piece again and I hope often:-} (....I play tymps. on this one:-)
it seemed like bass marimba was laggin in the beggining when he joined in after 1st marimba's solo...We took it about the same tempo but it sounded...fuller...but the slow part was really nice.
for some reason thats how the bass marimba was slow in my group too. and the beggining of the rythmic part with woodblock and claves always sounds messy...love the piece though
yeah, we probably should have researched that a bit more. Better than regionals, where it was originally pronounced "glass cock." One step at a time, haha.
See the thing about that is if you take the song too fast, you lose the groove completely. The melody is written to be taken at a specific tempo, and we as a collective decided on this one. We kind of all agreed that the style of this piece makes the listener want to nod their head, and taking this too fast will not allow it. Some of our rubato sections dragged a bit, but overall we hit all our rehearsed markings.
Sooo slowww......

Nice job!
I remember doing this piece in 8th grade.
I think we had a little bit more people though, so some parts were doubled.

Nice job guys, I'm assuming you're a high school group? Might have to show this one to Mr. Glassock when I get back to the university in the fall.
Oh, and the pronunciation of "Glassock" made for a nice laugh. ;)

its just a shame about the tuning of the 23" timp. Are they yamaha timps? They sound like it anyway. Haha. Well played though.
