@cait72590 I just saw the movie on Netflix. I had to Google Clara Lemlich to find out who she was. The movie started with Walter Mathau's flashback of being at a Union meeting as a young boy with his folks, where a lady got up from the crowd, and gave a very forceful and passionate speech in a foreign language, which I thought was German, but may have been Russian. There's not too many flashbacks in the movie. This is a great movie. Funny at times, often poignant though too. Great story.
I thought it was pretty imaginative good story. Interesting character development.

Why was Clara Lemlich in this? Could somebody tell me the context of her scene? Was it a flashback or something?

God bless Walter Matthau, wherever he is now. He was the MAN.
His roles in this and Grumpy old men remind me of my Grandpa so much it's crazy.

I just saw this movie 10 minutes ago. Before that I haven't seen it for like 6-7 years. I missed it so damn much, one of my all time faves.

Should've put up the parts in the film where Walter Matthau and Ossie Davis get all stoned out of their minds.
