The jackel's represent goverment's making people (who the goverments basicly just see as expendable meat) fight quarrel's that are not there's but the goverments. the goverment convince people that killing others ends suffering.

This seems to me to be to symbolize the current conflict in the middle east. It makes use of a preacher figure carrying a book, inspiring the army that follows to war. This could easily be referencing the crusades. The jackals wander the desert with scissors, inspiring their enemy to fight amongst themselves. The jackals would appear to depict the muslims, theirs scissors islam. The scissors, like islam, inspire their enemies, through corruption of their beliefs, to attack one another.

From reading the wiki entry on 'Arabs and Jackals', it says the main character is European, the military men are Arabs and the Jackals aren't given a nationality. Kafka's stories are often parables that seem filled with meaning just out of grasp. On top of this, the artist's fine adaptation will add another layer of meaning that may not line up with what the author had originally intended.

It's an enigmatic work. Good stuff.
