  • what happens if your head is square?

  • @Tonycalvo1991 There are helmetes approved by Spongebob Square Pants for that

  • ........... my nose touches the top of the opening of the helmet.

Why can't motorcycle salesmen learn how to properly fit a motorcycle helmet from a video like this, and then just leave the customer to find one that fits their head properly.

I swear so many people have incorrectly fitting helmets that aren't gonna properly save them in a crash, like my friend who has a helmet much too big.

  • This is so infuriating, I've spent £50 on a helmet that is far too big, now I've spent another £80 on a helmet that isn't quite suited to my head shape, but it's far better fitting than the first one. I'm gonna keep this one, and eventually get another helmet when I have more funds. Funnily enough the guy in the first shop I bought my helmet from said it fits right, and the guy in the shop wher eIbought my second helmet was confident it fits me, but I can twist the helmet forwards so............

  • I purchased an ICON helmet and it looks huge on my head is there a reason for that? Should I buy a smaller size?

  • Excellent info- Cheers!

  • so yea...found out my helmet doesnt fit lol...thanks though, im a new rider, you may have saved me some pain

  • Good video and tutorial. I am looking for a new helmet and thought mine was to tight but after watching your video I think it is just right. Thanks!

  • My biggest concern is that i change hair style alot. So i have 2 differnet hat sizes (long hair, short hair). Right now i have a long hair helmet, Does anyone think I'd need a short hair helmet?

  • @coloricanking it depends on how much hair you have. If when you chop your hair off, your helmet fits loose and moves around at speed, then by a "short hair helmet". I have a hot weather and cold weather helmet. My cold weather helmet is usually one of my older summer helmets because it has packed out and is too big but in cold weather I wear a balaclava that makes the older packed in helmet fit better and it also keeps me nice and toasty warm.

  • @coloricanking lol my dreads make my temples hurt when I wear mine

  • how do u fined the arai rx-q ?

  • @FAHAD6612 it fits the same as the RX7

  • Retard.

  • @romeomoon2 why make fun of my disability. ;p

  • congrats man, excellent video.

  • im 15 in one month i become 16

    what size should i have?

i have M now but it looks so big!

    but it pastes

  • @MtaSkc you will have to go into a shop and try a bunch of helmets on. Every helmet has a different interior shape and you will have to find the one that fits your egg - regardless of the size.

  • hmmm okay,thanks!

  • I have the following problem; I have a scorpion EXO 750. It passes every test, but one! The gap changes when i put my finger between my forehead and the helmet.

You name this test as one of the first ones you should do. Is it really that important? Should I buy another helmet? I know shoei feels like a better fit, but I'm not that rich and it will cost me about 3 times as much...

  • @Timbaa87 if you have a gap in the front of the helmet, it is an indication that your head is too round for the helmet and you need to find a helmet that fits a rounder head. Try the Suomy Vandal or the new Shoei RF1100, they will fit a more round shape head.

  • @RedlineMS501 Thanks for your reply, but i actually ment it the other way around. The scorpion put a lot of pressure on the middle of my forehead, but less on the sides of my forehead. I've tried on a shoei 1100 and i did like it, but i liked the HJC R-PHA 10 even more and it came with a tinted visor and a pinlock so that's what i purchased, and I have no regrets yet :) Only downside to the helmet is that it's hard to get the interior back in properly, but it's managable :)

  • Great info. Thanks for sharing.

  • With the helmet on, the voice could be tom cruise! :p

  • Just came across your video. Thanks a lot for posting it. I have been to three different motorcycle stores looking at helmets and not one of the people I spoke with mentioned any of the things you talked about. They sure were trying to sell me a $400.00 helmet though. At least now when I go look again, I'll know how they're suppose to fit. Hell, maybe I'll go back to the three stores I went to and show them your video. Thanks again, Mike.

  • the shoei rf 1100 fits me also great, does that mean that the AGV GP TECH wont fit me? =S i was about to maybe order it if i can find a store here that sells them so i could test them

  • @m3g1 the GP tech does fit a more longer narrow head shape. The RF1100 fits a more round head.

  • Honestly the most helpful video on YouTube. Thanks a lot, man!

  • what do you think of the suomy's?

  • @speedee911 I like the Vandal, good, safe, comfortable helmet. The Extreme and the Spec1r are also good, comfortable helmets but the visor system with the pods is terrible. The pods break, fly off and make changing the visor difficult without practice. And they are expensive to replace. If Suomy is a brand you like, check out the Vandal.

  • @speedee911 good helmets if they fit.

  • The chin measurement is just one aspect to fitting the helmet. You just want at least a minimum of a 1/2 inch or so in the chin area so that if you fall, the chin of your helmet doesn't hit your chin and impact your jaw. That can put you to sleep for a little while and chip your teeth. The rest of the helmet must also fit. Make sure that if the helmet feels too snug, it's too snug all the was around your head not just in a couple areas. Try some other brands and see how they fit.

  • So, if I can fit 1 1/2 to 2 fingers between my chin and the helmet, it's a good thing?

That's the only thing that was worrying me about the Arai RX-Q. Arai measurement and Shoei say I'm a small, but the Small feels too tight, and Medium on both feel snug.

  • Why should you do the 50 minutes test on another day? Can't you do it right after you found the one you like? Awesome instructions btw, thanks.

  • @kozas0 the reason you want to wait for a while is because after you've tried on a bunch of helmets you'll have hot spots from the helmets that maybe didn't fit that well and you may not be able to feel an incorrect fit on the helmet you like. It's like when someone punches you in the arm when they rip a bandaid off. You don't feel the bandaid coming off. It's just better to start fresh with the helmet you like after you've narrowed the field.

  • @RedlineMS501 ah right. makes sense. thanks again :)

  • Thanks for the video! I have a question though, I bought a Shoei XR-1100, it is my first helmet and it fits nicely in every other aspect but when I grab the chinbar and pull down, the helmet will roll so that I can press my jaw up against the chinbar. If I just try to push the helmet back, I can only barely brush my jaw against the chinbar, and I have 2 fingers clearance between my jaw and the chinbar. Is this common/normal or something I should be worried about?

  • Good Job.

    Thanks.

  • I just saw one vid before this and all they want is your money.

But you are helping people to save lives instead. thats more precious !

  • @2ndchanceinlife thanks, we do our best.

  • @Xonly1kaiX you have to try a helmet on. Always try a helmet on before buying online.

  • Hey, I got me an Airoh Miro XR modular helmet size M (57-58) for my head which is 59. It fits OK, but i can touch the chin bar with my jaw. I don't know if Is this normal for the modular (flip-up) types of helmets or the one finger rule should apply as for the regular full-face helmets.

  • A modular helmet should fit exactly like a regular full face helmet.

  • Very helpful thank you ;-)

  • My helmet fit me snug, but I can touch with my lips the chin bar, it's this dangerous? I have a Shoei XR-1000. If I choose a size bigger I can pull the helmet over my eyes, if I pull on the chin bar.

  • I think that maybe, that helmet is not the best choice for you. We have found that in many falls, the rider ends up impacting or scraping the chin of the helmet and if you don't have enough clearance, you are risking a good shot to your chin and some chipped teeth at the very least and a nice concussion if the impact is severe enough. Keep trying helmets until you find the one that fits your whole head the best.

  • @RedlineMS501 thank you so much for your video. I have now choose a Shoei X-Spirit II (European name), also known as Shoei Twelve in other lands. Also thanks that you give the people feedback for their questions, like me! I have always wear helmets that are too big or have the wrong shape for my head.

  • should my chin stick out if i push up the helmet from the front? thanks

  • with the strap done up, no you shouldn't be able to tilt the helmet up over you chin.

  • @RedlineMS501 oh right because the helmet i have tried on meets all the criteria for helmet safety but once the helmet is on with the strap securely fastened the front can be lifted and my chin is exposed if i use some resistance. Does this mean the helmet is the wrong shape for my shape head. Thanks

  • this is a good video, thanks redline

  • hello so I´m 56,5 and I tried a gp tech M and it fits kinda loose but the store didn´t had the Small should be small my size? thanks

  • A small may fit right, or it could be too small, or the GP Tech could just be the wrong shape for your head. The only way to know is to actually put a small on.

  • This is definitely the best helmet fitting video on Youtube. Thanks!

  • A medium in both the X-11 and the TiTech fit me very well but the Titech is a bit tighter. They have similar interior shapes but I would suggest that you find a place to try one on as you never know

  • I have tried on a bunch of helmets and the Shoei X-11 in a Medium fits me best, but I like the AGV Ti Tech but they didnt have one that I could try on, I wanted to know what size I would need in a Ti Tech that would fit me comfortably. Thanks

  • Good video. Now I know how to fit a helmet when I try them on, thanks.

  • Good video. Now I know how to fit a helmet when I try them on, thanks.

  • Good video. Now I know how to fit a helmet when I try them on, thanks.

  • He looks like mel gibson with the helmet on

  • Thanks SO much for this information. Your video has provided a better understanding of how to select the proper motorcycle helmet saving me time, money, and my head. Thanks!!

  • Excellent video !!
