  • ha, only prob longbows vs crossbows... longbows range at 100 yards is a big arch, they could be behind a hill lobbing arrows onto your crossbowers heads before the crossbos got close enough.

  • Swimbladder glue, i've heard more rediculous. The vikings stuck their shields together with glue made from cheese (see the shield episode in this series).

  • Hmm, if you have the protection of at least a Fort, or have some do the loading. Then just worry about enough bolts, supplies and personal.

  • Who ever came up with the idea of using swimbladders for glue? Ha, quite funny

  • turkish flight bows loosed a very light flight arrow, whereas the English long bow shot war arrows[ far heavier]. the longbows greater fulcrum and longer working limb allowed to achieve greater distance.

  • Turkish bows were designed to firing on horseback, and so had to be smaller.

  • I think all that matters is if the weapon kills or not..and both the crossbow and the longbow do..so if there is one of them ( wich is the longbow) that you can shoot faster and kill faster with, it is the better weapon

  • For some people whining here: Asian bow design (turkish bow) was the most efficient bow and was used to shoot the record of 650 yards in umm... 1700 or so. Englishmen were just more trained physically to compensate.

    U cannot really compare crossbow and longbow, especially at that specific time before crossbows had their limbs made of iron. Later medieval arbalests had power of up to 5000lb so that would shoot through a line of knights but require you to reload for a minute.

  • but the mongolia recurve horn bows were better than the english longbows

  • Yes, they were. You had a thumbs down, and i just gave ye a thumbs up, because of one simple reason; you're right.

  • They were almost twice as powerful, if I'm not mistaken. The Mongols pulled a ring attached to the string instead of the string tislef, so they could release it faster.

  • @CountArtha I believe you are probably misinterpreting what is known as the "Mongolian/Asiatic Release". Mongol archers, rather than drawing the string back with the index and middle fingers, did so with their thumbs, wearing a thumb ring to protect the joint and make for a smoother release. The ring was worn on the thumb, not attached to the string. While I doubt there would be any difference, one could make the case that the Asiatic release was faster, purely due to the use of only one digit.

  • @jeep684 Ah.

  • @ishotthesherifswife better on horseback only. on foot the longbow was better because of the big draw weight.

  • @ishotthesherifswife And those bows were for horsearchers. You don't shoot longbows on horseback normally, while similarly the bows you are speaking about would fail against longbows if used on foot.

  • why crossbow is more deadly in close range?

    why long bow has longer shooting range?

  • 1:15 is arbalestia O.o really nice weapon...

  • was the man talking alive in the middle ages?

  • in the 1400's, English Longbowmen could (i think) shoot 12 arrows a minute- 5 seconds to reload an arrow

  • If the guy in the clip managed 9 in 30 seconds then I think a trained archer in the 1400's could manage more than 12 a minute! :)

    (The guy in the clip wasn't that quick either)

  • WRONG!!!!!!! professional mercenaries could shoot up to 8 bolts a min with a crossbow while the best longbowmen could shot up to 20 arrows a min.

  • Thats just europeon crossbows, the chinese repeating crossbow (chu-ko-nu)could shoot large amount in a moment, although the accuracy is debatble

  • but european crossbows were more powerful.

  • but there reloading speed took ages the longbow still was better and more accurate with the proper shooter

  • what i meant was that european crossbows were more powerful than the chinese crossbows but yes the longbow was faster than any crossbow.

  • Well, the arbalests were more powerful than the Chinese crossbows.

  • Chinese crossbow>Cho Ku Nu

    European crossbow=Chinese Crossbow

    Arbalest>European crossbow

  • someone litteral would have a ball here

    chinese crossbow=cho ku nu

    european crossbow= chinese crossbow

    european crossbow = cho ku nu

    arbalest = european crossbow

    arbalest = chinese crossbow

    arbalest = cho ku nu

  • the Cho Ku Nu was the repeating Crossbow?

  • @sturnfield7783 it wasn't effective though. it didn't have enough power to penetrate even thick everyday clothing.

  • @lifelessperson1993

    So was that why in the Osprey series for the Chinese Armies, they had noted the thickness of the soilder's cloth armour

  • @sturnfield7783 possibly. The first repeating crossbow's were not exactly made to kill, they found out that the repeating mechanisms cost the crossbow dearly in terms of power, efficiency and accuracy. It didn't even shoot the bolts properly. rather it just threw the bolts out. it was more of a distraction so the victim would have time to escape than an effective weapon.

  • @Abokasee wasnt that a really limited range weapon? longbows can lob arrows over 100 yards.. :-\

  • @Abokasee

    The chu-ko-nu was useless against armour.

  • @Srbijayesvet it depends of the kind of spanning device, but yes i agree with you

  • @Srbijayesvet Yes , in LOTR

    The English longbow is a deadly weapon but no one can fire 20 arrows in a minute , unless he (or she , but usually he) doesn't mind them missing their target...

  • @Srbijayesvet Yes , in LOTR

  • @Srbijayesvet 6 bolts i agree with, but an aimed arrow every three seconds? that's doesn't sound rationally possible, 12-14 seems a lot more realistic in a battle setting.

    and a 2:1 fire ratio is nothing to discount when at crecy that would translate into 84,000 arrows a minute to 36,000 bolts

  • @Srbijayesvet Those two guys from the video are far from being professional mercs so I suppose it could be true.

  • Amazing vid!

  • super video!!! awesome

  • longbow is the best:p

  • i like crossbow

  • me too.

  • longbow is the best :p
