  • hey jonathan do you have to reinstall os if you are upgrading ram thanks

  • @shahidiy no...only for HD

  • Is it best to do this as soon as you get your Macbook Pro? Especially to avoid transferring documents and all that?

  • I wish ssd's would be cheaper. they good hdd's but too expensive.

  • @iirmantass3 It's like buying 120GB of ram sticks, only a little bit weaker.

  • @UltimateArco Lolz.

  • will replacing these things speed up video exporting and importing?

  • @punk3d2 Probably, especially if you're having to swap as it stands. It's possible that the gains would be trivial, but it really depends on the size of the work and your current setup. Also, importing would almost always be better with a solid state drive assuming the source of the import is the solid state drive.

  • Yo Thanks TechFast this vid helped out a lot :D

  • Can this 4-Core Macbook support 4GB x 2 ADATA DDR3 RAM and Micron Crucial M4 SSD 256GB SSD?

  • I now know what I want :p Thanks.

  • my mac got a 410 before I did anything to it... :P

And its the same exact one! lol

  • so im trying to do the ram upgrate i currently have 4gb of memory and trying to do 8 like you...my harddrive is 500gb and well i dont want to touch that but the RAM upgrading it will increase the speed of my mac right? like the boot up and performance??

  • @nemo13831 Not exactly. Upgrading the RAM means that your computer will have a better preformance when working with big files. 4gb ram is often more than enough, but when you work with huge files in programs like Photoshop the 8gb will help you. Increasing your RAM won't do anything for the boot up time. If you do a lot of video editing or use virtual machines like VMware Fusion or Parallels you should consider upgrading your RAM. For better boottimes, get an SSD. Hope this helped.

  • Does anybody know if i can get a data doubler for an early 2007 pre unibody macbook?

  • You get a THUMBS UP for using the pic from Pro Wrestling on Nintendo. Nice

  • Can you update a detailed installation of the data doubler and how to format drives afterward video? Unless that is Part 3? Seems a lot of people are curious/need help.

  • part 3?

  • I only have one question: HOW DOES A DATA DOUBLER IT AFFECT BATTERY LIFE?

    Better | Worse | or Not-At-All

Oh, and AppleUpdatez, it didn't "Fail" to load the dock as you said. He simply HIDES the dock in System Preferences.

  • @tldtoday By increasing ram, will my computer run games better?

  • @GrandpaStarcraft 4 gigs RAM is enough for games. You won't notice any difference with more than that.

  • @mongomondomongo Then neither will be DICK!!!

  • I by the way have already installed the data doubler succesfully but please jonathan just for the sake of the other people: put up the video! you said you already had it but you still haven't uploaded it and it's been 2 months!

  • well the boot up speed also relies on ram also, and since the ssd has twice as much, it was no way it could lose

  • Does this OWC SSD support trim and actually work?

  • I have a quick question. would you recomend putting a SSD on my macbook as the main drive and then having another HDD (as an external or maybe instead of the optical drive) for storage? or what would you suggest as a solution?... I like the speed of SSDs but having my laptop with only 128GB wouldn't really do it for me :S

  • @03jphoenix then go for a 7200 rpm hard drive. It won't be as snappy as SSD's but it will be faster.

  • @soapzh

I have just bought 15 inch 2.2Ghz Quad core i7 macbook pro @ 4GB RAM and have bought 8GB ram online with crucial 'dot com'... I'm a complete novice to Mac but it is a fantastic Device...

A few recommendations for anyone seeking to purchase a mac.

    1) UPGRADE the RAM to 8GB but DO NOT upgrade with apple store it is half price with 'Crucial dot com'

    2) Get a High Res screen and IF you can afford it ANTI-GLARE is definitely best

    3) SSD is worth considering but wait for price reductions

  • @ArGyProductions I fully agree.

  • lol, this is how nerds drag race :)

  • Fail... The dock didn't show on the SSD bootup

  • @AppleUpdatez

No "Fail" it's just hidden in System Preferences. You can choose to show or hide the dock.

  • Fake

  • Good job!

I have upgrade my Macbook pro 15 2011 to 8GB and 128 SDD using your video.

    Thank you very much!

    From Panama rep.

  • when will part 3 be coming out? Soon I hope since I really want to get a data doubler and a secondary harddrive for my own macbook pro but I would like to see how to install it first....

  • @rtownz251251 I recently bought the data doubler and a secondary hard drive for my MBP. I can tell you that the process is very easy and the included instructions are detailed. I moved my OEM 500GB HD to the data doubler and installed a 256GB Samsung 830 drive.

  • Part 3?

  • Thanks for your videos TechFast, just loved them!

  • SSDs do really stand upto their expectation, for that precisely few seconds earlier bootups, fast data duplication and so on.. SSDs cost you more and in return just give you what you expect from it, still i would suggest a normal daily user to stick with normal HDD they can opt in for 500 GB 7200 rpm instead of 750 GB 5400 rpm to get a bit higher speed, but spending around 70 pounds extra for a base level SSD is just not something really recommended. I won't just suggest whatsoever!

  • Really a very obvious thing, although the tests were not of that high quality or that highly accurate, it was the real scenario test that is what actually matter to general public, rather than those rpm and other kind of figures, that are just of no meaning to a layman person.

Whatever you consider, it still remains much faster than the Windows, Microsoft is just way far behind than this, 1 / 2

  • There are still faster than Windows!

  • Who is the manufacturer of the ram standard? Great video!

  • I've really been toying with installing one of these... does it eat up your battery a bit faster though?

  • this OWC drive is an 4200rpm compared to vertex 3 ... or vertex2. fail

  • does this void the warranty? i'm just asking because i did not see any steps that would show the tech guys from apple(after switching it back to original) that there was a 2nd drive in there..

  • Hi all, looking for anyone who could possibly help me...

I've got the 2011 13" Pro and after a few days of use, with very minimal stuff on my 500gb HDD, and by minimal I mean I still have 479gb or something left, it's started to become noisy. I've read up and seen it's a common problem that I will just "have to put up with as it's the new Toshiba drive". Would an SSD resolve this issue? Would it be near silent once again? Thanks in advance if anyone can help =)

  • Love these videos .

  • Part 3 PLS!

  • the read and write is so much faster with SSD!

  • oh nevermind its the stupid matte display i forgot

  • i dont understand why you take the black off the monitor of your macbook so it looks grey. it looks ugly

  • DO THE SECOND HD INSTALL!!

  • Love your videos man. I am considering buying a MacBook Pro soon, and your videos really help alot. I was close to buying it prior seeing your vids, but now I'm even more convinced. + your editing and 'to the point' style is great. /me likes

  • waiting on part3! thanks for the 2 parts so far.

  • Awesome videos

  • Great video but where is part 3?

  • wheres part 3?

  • Excellent review video. Convinced me to get the OWC SSD.

  • Watch my videos and plz subscribe

  • not sure how you achieved such a high score with the 5400rpm drive?

  • @tldtoday Could you please put in a Seagate Momentus XT and see how it compares to the SSD and the normal HDD? I know it would be a bit of a pain but it would totally show people the alternative option if they can't afford and SSD and want a fast HDD. Thanks!

  • man my Macbook pro 15"early 2009 version fall down and the bluetooth is not available, where is the bluetooth placed in the macbook pro???

Ps. also the cd driver is not working

  • man my Macbook pro 15"early 2009 version fall down and the bluetooth is not available, where is the bluetooth placed in the macbook pro???

Ps. also the cd driver is not working

  • How do you put videos side by side like this?

  • i appreciate you making these vids and you mainly convinced me to purchase the mbp 2011. im not sure that spending the extra 300 bones on the ram and ssd is worth the seemingly minimal speed bump. the machine is pretty fast for me as is. unless you have a different point of view?????

  • The SSD is definitely faster, but 120GB is nothing xD I'd rather have the 750GB one c:

  • @imlike15 Seagate Momentus XT. Google it, get it. It's only a little more expensive than a normal HDD, MUCH cheaper than the SSD, holds 500GB and is only on average 2-3 seconds slower than the SSD but 8-10 faster than a normal HDD.

  • @Fukc6you6kunt dude, chill out. wtf?

  • Great comparison.

  • sorry if you already mentioned this, but what is the cost vs benefit from the HD to the SSD? You're also giving up how much disk storage?

  • i want a black macbook pro!!!!

  • Any differences between third party SSDs and Apple SSDs??

  • Waiting for the overdrive install.

  • SSD. Winning!

  • A WINNER IS YOU

  • great vid man

  • Do you recommend to get both ssd and 8gb ram for 13 inch mackbook pro 2011?

    I got intel ssd x-25 M 80gb GEN2.

Do you know if there a software that helps with trim support in mac?

  • i dont think its worth the price and i would rather have 750GB than 120GB ...... and just change the ram to 8gb is good enough im not impassient and can wait a extra 5-10 seconds :P

  • very cool

  • hi, i m using a Macbook Pro 15" (bought it last year 2010) with Core 2 Duo inside...is it possible to change the RAM/ROM and also to Intel Core i7 ??? or is impossible..thanks....I asked this as i saw ur using all version of Macbook..with silver colour frame...thanks

  • can you use the 8GB ram on the air

  • damn i want a SSD in mine too : (

  • Want to See Part 3!!

  • What video editing software do you use? Sorry if I'm one of the many to ask this question.

  • say you're already using the drive and then you wanna move it to become the secondary one and add the ssd as primary.. what do i do with the old Mac OSX

  • Hey please checkout my iPhone 5 rumors video!

  • Actually John A Winner is You this video is ownage :D!!!

  • So how does this SSD compare to Apple's SDD?

  • I seriously think you are the best at doing what you do here on YouTube! I am a big fan!!! so glad to find your channel!!

  • The difference in speed is remarkable! Too bad 128GB is too small for me everything else is just way to expensive!

  • @Sharkbate13 I didn't see any remarkable speed difference....and for an $1100 upgrade I thought I should....

  • @SuperMachead1 This upgrade is $365...and more than double read and write is pretty remarkable

  • i think if it run on Max OS X Lion is very good.., the speed is fast

  • Wow, what a significant difference in Read/Write, SSD is a really nice thing to have!

  • I am going to buy the 15" model but if I get the lower end one then I can get the better display but with the higher end I would get a better graphics card. What Should I get?

  • Johnathan, you're the real winner here.

  • you know your a geek when you come to video to looks at stats and loading bars! xD

  • let's say you want to use your other HDD with a data doubler, how do you remove the OSX on that hard disk without formatting it?

  • @apokolips why would you want to remove OS X without formatting? That's essentially one of the reasons why someone WOULD format a drive. But to answer your question, I guess just deleting everything on the drive (including hidden files) would do the trick...

  • It really shows how our Data Read and Writes are the real bottleneck.

  • 0:00

  • great vedio, as always! I want to get a macbook, would you give me any ideas that if i should choose between macbook air 13'', 4G ram and 250 G SSD or new 15'' macbook pro. I don't really do any vedio editing or gaming. but i watch a lot of movies and vedios online and i write a lot. thanks!

  • I TOLD YOU NOT TO GO BY THE WATER COOLER!

  • A Winner is You :D

  • How much did you spend all together?

  • why are your videos so short for ?

  • @mrlunz1975 Why would this video need to be any longer?

  • @tldtoday i never did say this one i said VIDEOS

  • @tldtoday plus we get more and learn more

  • @tldtoday You need to babble on more.. I can help you with that!! LOL

  • @mrlunz1975 eat a dick

  • @mrlunz1975 short and sweet is best

  • Lol, the 'A Winner is You' picture made me search All Your Base Are Belong to Us, which led me to a certain bike stealing video...

  • I found even more of a speed difference with my computer. I can restart my computer in less than 30 seconds.

  • I have the Momentus XT Hybrid 500GB/4GB SSD in my MacBook Pro and it's pretty quick for its price. My battery seems to take a toll since it's 7200rpm but it's as close as I'll be getting to a REAL SSD for a while unless the prices are dropped.

  • i would much rather have the 750gig HDD becuase it holds more and is cheaper SSd's are to #$ right now

  • Was this Charlie Sheen's computer?

  • when you install the data doubler, are you going to do a full review on it with a tutorial on how to format the drives?

  • what? wheres the installation fo the other harddrive?

  • I heard the next ten people to like this video get a free MacBook.

  • Nice job ...

  • were the computers diffrent sizes in the boot test?

  • does it void the warranty to install the stuff?

  • ssd = winning! @charliesheen

  • you lost 630GB.

  • A WINNER IS YOU

  • Great video!

  • Which is more important in a new Windows laptop, RAM, CPU, or hard drive?

  • @timewarptrio11 as long as the cpu isnt less than 2Ghz dual core the cpu is fine you should upgrade the ram, then get an ssd, then upgrade cpu

  • @timewarptrio11 well, if you want to run multiple programs more ram is good, if you want to multitask without any lag then a high cpu is good, and if you want to store a lot of stuff then a HDD. SO, it really all depends on what you want to do.

  • @timewarptrio11 - CPU, as you can upgrade the other hardware later down the line. CPU is the thing you're going to have to live with for the lifetime of a laptop.

  • SSD's are cool but what about TRIM DOES APPLE SUPPORT THIS?

  • @earlbee31 Apparently the latest version of Mac OS does in fact support trim.

  • @tldtoday - Yes, it's true. I've been a bit worried about TRIM support for the MacBook Pro I've just got (video on channel btw ;) which has an SSD. Mac OS X Lion is going to support TRIM.

  • @MyRandomReviews

    Hi,

Are you saying Mac OSX Snow Leopard does not support TRIM?

  • @pussiestroker - Yes, there is no support for TRIM in Mac OS X Snow Leopard.

  • @earlbee31 like he said, the newest model of macbook pros come with a specialized OS that has a few features that Lion will have. one of these features is TRIM support.

  • @rayisyourlover ok thants.

  • I did not think that SSD hard drive are so fast! If only price wasn't so high.

  • @abovePL1 $100 more, if your spending 2199 on a laptop 100 is an insignificant amount more

  • Just twice as fast ? And no access time lag.

  • @abovePL1 And also you have to use less memory or you have to pay 1k to get a 750gb one

  • kewl

  • so im guessing ssds are the way to go nowadays?

  • @bville986

not really, at least not yet.

when a HDD crashes, its possible to retrieve the info, but that cant be said for the SSD

  • @bville986 Unfortunately unlike HDDs they degrade over time and loose speed, at to a certain point won't work. Apple has implemented a new feature(Not sure off the top of my head) that allows SSDs to be taken care of better, but none the less a degrading effect will occur on any SSD. PCM might be the way to go, but it isn't out yet. There is a video about PCM on youtube you might want to check out :)

  • how come the bezel is like an air?

  • @jFrancc It is just an update. To make it look better in their heads. I think it looks better ;)

  • @jFrancc It's the Anit-Glare Hi-Res version

  • @tldtoday Do you enjoy the AntiGlare more than the glossy one? Did u get used to the small font of the higher resolution BTW?

  • DUDE YOU CAN PLAY SO MANY GAME ON A MAC

  • Cool Video Bud

  • WOW that's fast!

  • awesome! :)

  • how much does the SSD 120gb cost

  • a winner is me?

    :D

  • @NoWhereToRun22 Shout out to Pro Wrestling on the NES

  • Maybe I missed this in the 1st vid, but could you share what the total cost on the upgrades was?

  • @richmack06 $249 for the SSD, $114 for hte 8GB RAM and then I also ordered a 500GB 7200RPM to throw in the Optical Drive (Coming Soon)

  • Yes you can! ;) Good video. I'm the first oh my god

  • @Flywaves1 Fail
