@Hockeyvalley actually Dobermans have very skinny and fragile tails. Leaving them uncropped is a very great risk for the dog, they can easily be broken with a swish or someone steps on it. I have a female 4 year old dobbie and she has her tail cropped, but ears are uncropped. Her tail does not bug her at all.

Is your Doberman a lab mix? The ears look different then usual dobermans. I think the difference in ears makes your doberman look much cuter, mainly because I once had a black-lab. I could be mistaken though.

it's illegal to crop the ears yourself.. you have to be a licensed vet in order to crop ears.. it is not illegal to have your dogs ears cropped.

Because this is more beautiful and like nature. The tail shouldn't be docked as well! Here in Germany dogs musn't be abused that way just to look dangerous or something. It's better for them to have their tail and so on - nature gave it to them for a reason!

I notice a lot of Dobie owners use choke chain collars. We did too, without realizing that they are only to be used while dog is on a lead. Abby, our beautiful black and tan, was strangled before my eyes when our puppy got his teeth caught in her chain collar. The pup survived, but Abby didn't. PLEASE everyone, be careful.

Part of it's to make the dog look meaner, but it also improves their hearing and makes them less likely to get ear infections. It's actually a pretty good idea, and I prefer cropped Dobies anyway. Don't get me wrong, Gracie is very attractive! I love how she goes and looks out the window to see if her mommy's home ^^

Actually it's because Dobermen were bred for guarding, and by cropping their ears that gives them better hearing than keeping the heavy floppy ears. There are other reasons, like if you crop a dogs ears then they're harder to damage if a dog were to get into a brutal fight. Not that i condone dog fighting of course, but a lot of people do that. It also gives a doberman a "regal" look.
