All omega pedals aren't like that..you can set it up however you'd like. I have mine set about 3" from where the beater hits the "drum". It's a real bass pedal, just with a switch installed on in so the game can recognize when you press it down.

And drums take just as much skill as any other intrument. you have to know rythym and be able to keep a beat. you also need to be strong and have good stamina. unlike guitar or piano. they're still good intruments but drums takes more physical strength
