@RetroShinigami When a company ceases to exist a game doesn't automatically become freeware unless the copyright holders release it as such. Usually though, the copyright holders will welcome game developers (especially up-and-coming ones) to remake or reprogram their games. It is well worth a person's while seeking permission to do so, as it is very likely that the original developers will be keen to support you as games take a huge amount of blood, sweat and tears to create.

Varalys the demon lord makes a bid to destroy and rule fairyland. The princess, fearing capture splits herself into the three guardian fairies and with hope that he may vanquish Varalys, summons a man from another plane into the remains of fairyland. This man goes onto defeat Varalys and his demons all the while collecting the three fairies and the gems needed to reform the princess. At the end, the man kneels, pledging his loyalty to the princess and becoming the protector of all fairyland.

I'm convinced that everyone who seriously likes this game has at least some degree of autism. And by the way, Ridge Racer had '3D environments' that ran at a decent framerate, was released even earlier back in December '94, and also didn't play like fucking garbage.

I've never played this game, but when I see comments, something people absolutely FAIL to realize is that this game was released April 28, 1995(Heh, 10 days after I was born). Compare this to, per say, Yoshi's Island, or Donkey Kong Country 2, this game had completely 3D environments(though the items and characters I believe are sprites) which was something VERY rare at the time. Especially in EARLY 95.

I'm in the minority of those who like this game. I don't know what it is but it draws you in. Maybe it's the music, the feel and look of the game, or the cheesyness of it all? One things for sure, it's pretty awesome running around everywhere in that fairy armor. xD

I am getting this today having never played it before! It looks awesome! Reminds me of a dream I had all those years ago of what a 3D Shinobi might be like on Saturn. Obviously, it wasn't that much like this, but seeing this video made me remember it. It was that trees, earth texture and framerate that did it

If anything I think the opposite of some of the other comments here: It looked crap back then but nowadays it's got a kitsch quality to it. Since the graphics would be dated no matter how good it was back then, it's actually impressive because it goes for the Virtuoso-style digital capture 3D.

The gameplay is the same as the original game, which is hit and miss - either you love it or hate it.

Those bats are annoying though :/

Fricken' love this game! Must be played on Hard though. Normal and Easy ruins it with directions. I love the whole starting off with nothing trying to survive in the world feeling that this game delivers. I remember coming across later dungeons at level 1, and trying to sneak around enemies to finish the goal. Great fun!!

The frame rate also isn't a problem at all once you play for about 10 minutes. You quickly adjust to it. :)

Actually, it's the other way: the scenery is 3d, the sprites are 2d (see, the protagonist, as you said, is a bunch of pictures, not polygons). The games we make today are, usually, totally 3d.

the graphics look amazeing if you sit about 15 feet from the screen (or further for bigger screens IE over 43inch ) then once sitting comfortable squint your eyes turn down the lights and drink a beer or two .(or whtever your prfered vice is? ) LOL enjoy

I suppose considering when this game came out (1995), it wasn't awful, but it sure hasn't aged well. Choppy and inconsistent framerate. Shoddy hit detection. And just an overall boring action RPG. The random world generation was pretty unique for the time, but it wasn't enough to save the game from being considered pretty bad by most. Compared to Hydlide and Super Hydlide though, I'd say it's the superior game of the series, which isn't saying much. :P

lol yeah you can skip the first few areas, I nomrally am good enough to skip to the dungeons or the ruins area^^. but you can skip the grave yard and the mansion, its just harder to beat the next areas.

Nice vid. I don't hate the game either, but that's just because it's so unplayable, that I never mind to give it a try longer than 3 Minutes and 20 seconds. It's so buggy, so incredibly slow and the first area is everything but beautiful.
