  • No you don't actually get to fly anything, you don't get to party at a club and you don't get to meet famous people. But you do get to clean their puke off the floor, you do get to clean their lavatories after they have had diarrhea for days and you do get to sail for hours to a small island to walk their dog, the dog that shits on the carpet, the carpet you get to clean. You do get to sleep right next to the engine room which is hotter than hell and will make your ears bleed..

    have a nice trip

  • Ok thats not working on a yacht, thats the greenhorn dream and this is why so few people actually make in the yachting world.

  • this video don't tells the only good thing about this job........the food....is really good!(in my case)

The rest you see here is a real and spectacular amount of BULLSHIT!

  • They pay shit

  • I second Wom .... i have crewed onboard yachts for over 10 years .... its LOADS of HARD WORK and very little play. YES you get paid to travel but the sacrifices are tremendous too. Dont believe in the BS. Crew is by far the HARDEST part of yachting, hence why i went from skipper to Engineer. This should be an advertisement for people who want to charter the yachts, that the crew have to look after, hehe ... dont attract the wrong attitude to the yachts!

  • i am game !

  • I Know a guy whos captin of a big yacht (were talking unrestricted range size here) And i can tell you for a fact that he works his arse off 24-7, same with every other member of his crew, So in other words this vid is a load off...

  • @Smithyards yeah, they missed in the ad " and i want to be booned for free " ....

  • I think one word is mising "Blow Job"

  • @intas08 that's 2 words.

  • I am reminded of what one owner said. " I just fired 5 kids and hired 5 more", talking about his crew. One female crew member said that being groped by guest seem to be par for the course and fellow male members feel you owe them "something". Not having ever crewed on a yacht, I have not idea but it is not for me.

  • My only job in a yacht would be to misbehave.

  • Ya left out the parts; I want to swab decks. Scrub salt residue. Clean toilets, Polish brass. Be treated like a slave and oh yeah, Turn up missing on payday.

  • The only nice jobs offshore I know are privat deliveries, no boss nagging around you....but you realy need to know what you do!

  • La Dole Vita...!

  • Long hours, tough times, the hourly rate worked out to hours worked is not as great as first imagined. Also you need to invest in courses even before you start.

Yes on the outside it appears glamorous but hard work is still hard work. And it is a service job. The owner or guests are your only concern. Not how tired or how much your earning or what next club you are going to. I spent last summer on a boat that did not go into port for two months solid. All that glitters is not gold.

  • Balls!

  • Well, actually, although i should not advertise this industry to much to prevent an wave of new wanabee crew, I have done it and are still doing it. The poor sods with the negative comments? well i guess you haven´t tried hard enough..

  • @Palmaconnection I guess you are still a deckie....... ;)

  • Yeah. Right!!! lmao. I worked on yachts for 30 years. It's nothing like that!

  • I bit over the top but the broad strokes are right. Travel the world, save tons of money, see a lot of cool stuff and have more fun than should be legal. They did leave out the 16 hour days for ten days in a row, but it's worth it.

  • Zum Kotzen !!!!

  • if only it was like that

  • this is booulshit...

  • i wanna be billionaire without to work..

what can i do for it?

  • @Ndjumbah u must sleep eat and drink alot and after 5 days u will be bilionaire :)

  • Sweet livin in Monaco.

  • I want a job. I want travel I want adventure I wanna call now I want to meet, wanna greet.I want to impress. I want to leave tonight. I want to go to morrocco.I want to leave the plane, wanna go to the hotel. I want to work hard, play harder. I want to meet that girl/boy. I want to greet that boy/girl. I wannna to lose it. I want to forget the past. I wanna know why I woke up here. I wanna know why my money's gone. I wanna know why the police want to talk to me. I need a lawyer
  • Thats why I do this job!!

  • land this job and then a week out to sea they bend you over for some fun in international waters. refuse or resist and its over the side with ya.

  • There you go, that´s right. Either you pick up the soap or you feed the sharks. Or better, they sell you to a very nice arab who will take care of you till you die...

  • so I 'm not the only one with that dream..

  • nice job to have

  • Anyone who has 12 years of experience and can't get a job because of rookies probably shouldn't be in the industry

  • Hi, you seem to know a thing or two about working in this industry. I want to be a deckhand on one of these monsters, what is the pros and neg of this job? I know I can do this but I don't know what to expect.

  • poor indians and pakis watching this clip

  • @orthodoxdragon1 why??????????????

  • because of shit like this I am still looking for yacht work after 3 week in france - with 12 years behind me. Idiots flocking for 'easy money' when they have never been to a decent restaurant or set foot on a yacht. Dicks!!

  • I chanced across this video, what a load of rubbish. I have owned a couple of large yachts and the crew have to work hard when the owner is on board, they do not ride in helicopters, yes they can party but they are probably too tired to do so and i have to say they will meet some nice people and some deeply unpleasant people too. Crew are the most difficult thing on a boat, sorting the wheat from the chaff sometimes is not easy bu they always get found out in the end.

  • well put man!!

  • agreed

  • but this guy is a captain of a boat not a crew or something

  • @womford owners are on board like 4 weeks other time is off but still they need to employee crew specially for big yachts like that of lady moura

  • yea good 1, tell every1 about the industryand flood it full of unexperienced peoeple... idiots!!!

  • That photo of US Airline on top of the beach full of people has to be photoshoped.

  • I believe it's an actual landing at St. Maarten (they're airport is right next to the beach like that).

  • correct

  • Nope, it's real! I saw that scene on Discovery Travel for top 10 hottest beaches around the globe!

  • its not. thats maho beach on st. maarten (st.martin) in the caribbean. the runway starts directly behind the beach.

  • This video is the reason why a bunch of inexperienced kids are ruining the industry and taking all the jobs. try 15 hours work a day all week

  • This video is the reason why a bunch of inexperienced kids are ruining the industry and taking all the jobs.

  • This really does make it seem like far to much of a vacation.

  • I got me a Yacht, it fits in my Bath-Tub !

  • Nice Promo. Rock on. It reminds me how I saw the industry when I first joined. It was that cool and exciting, it still is. I see for some its maybe just not new anymore.

  • Completely missing the point of the discussion.

  • i love how chicks write

  • Whoever posted this has a warped view of being a yachtie. You are just encouraging lazy people into the industry by promoting it this way. Like the type who work on P&O Ferries....please don't!!!

  • jillo, being there is all there is,living in the illusion is whats wrong.Life is good, work is good, some fun is good.Rich people live well.Kissing arse is bad,and gay.

  • this person is just trying to make $ on their website

  • I thought some people thought we made enough on these yachts?? LOL. Kissing arse is very bad - not sure about gay though??? Some great gays in the industry haha! And the reason I don't put videos on YouTube? Because I'm not daft enough to do that, esp. where my career and earnings are put into jeopardy. Daft comment mate!!

  • What are you on???

  • on your fat ass

  • Hahahahahahaha pretty good comeback. Although I wasn't aware that a size 6 was fat lol!! Keep on dreamin' buddy!!

  • ya know what s better than sex? poison ivy and a blowdryer...Now your on the information hwy.Its far out baby.:)

  • i've worked on yachts for 8 years now starting as a deckie and working up to mate on a 135 boat now a BELIEVE!!!!!!!!!! me it's a lot harder than the movie makes it out to be just read the comments most of them are true

  • Work really hard... and play as hard as you can handle (without making a fool of yourself, your crew, your boss, and the yacht). It can be a great way to make a living given the right opportunity.

I tell a story of my experience as a chef on board a private Italian sailing yacht in my book, Mediterranean Summer. Check it out!

It certainly had its moments but for what I was after, I saw A LOT and left A LOT of stones unturned...

  • Nice one....!!!!!!!!! That's how to do it!

  • Listen, you are taking your experience in yachting and saying this isn't accurate. My experience is is closely related to allot of what has been shown. I have flown on the owners jet, I have lived in an owners mansion. I have played with the owners toys, i have partied in great spots arranged by owners, I have sat in Box Seat arranged by owners.... I mean the list goes on, all of these experiences I owe to being in this industry I recommendyouchoosewho you workfor with a little bit more wisdom.

  • Who HASN'T done those things after 8+ years? I would hope everyone has like you and me. My point is that some vids are unprofessional and that side of it doesn't need to be advertised. My owners are great - I do all the things u talk about - but don't feel the need to advertise it as being 'the norm'. Boats are great, but that life is not the norm. Nothing to do with wisdom in choosing - it's called being discrete.

  • Well dude maybe what you need to do is make a very unflattering but good video of the yachting industry and put it on you tube. And dicretely wash away peoples fantasies. To repair the damage that this little promo has, is apparently doing. Maybe then the world will be a better place. I am sure if you put great house to it, it going to rock and people are going to watch.lol.

  • Yeah they probably would, but I'm too busy for that. What does 'put great house to it mean'? Is that an American saying? One of our Chefs is from the States. He might know.

  • Hey Skipjas, I was responding to to someone.

  • Yeah Skipjas what does putting house into it mean????? Dicretely?? 'it going to rock'?? I'm lost. Thank heavens you're a cook and not a Purser, you champ.

  • That I am sweet cheeks, that I am! And yes you are, withought a doubt. Couldn't have said it better myself.

  • Again, making no sense. Yes my cheeks are sweet, thank you for noticing. Makes all the time in the gym worthwhile. And yes I am....still no clue what you are trying to say. Should we involve a speech therapist for you?? Completely lost here.....what the fuck are you banging on about and trying (unsuccessfully) to be a smart arse about. How embarrassing....

  • @LeChampChef1 Yeah, I think that Jillster78 had a point.....have you SEEN the kids coming into the industry since 2 years now??? Way to go getajobonauyacht...! Perhaps he should have made that video you suggested......would have staved off the chaff that are abound now on the docks in Antibes. ;)

  • way to go dudes... a job here is not a holiday... fact is.. work and work! lucky you if you got the right working crew..good management and a good owner. but mostly all sucks around here! greed sticks.

  • I'm in the industry as a chef. It's a great career, but it is very hard work. People think that it is super glam. I think that this video portrays a false image of yachting. What about working for 18 hours straight, and sleeping for four, and working for months without getting a day off. Never seeing your family, living out of a suitcase. There are negatives and positives. And taxes will catch up to you.

  • Hi there fluidmers, I've worked in the industry for over 3 years now and your right there are some hard times but once you find the right situation your laughing. Most recently I was on a boat where in 6 months the owner was on board for a total of only 36 hours, and in that 6 months we we're all given apartments ashore, the vessel was not in dry dock, I had a car and we worked from 8 am to 1 pm 5 days a week. There are dream jobs out there, I'm a living proof!

  • jimmy can you get me a a job i live in canada and would love to just get away!

  • Personally I like the chartering side.....don't want to be doing it forever. I have my own apartment! If you're 21 then that is great, but I like to earn the bucks! Sounds a little boring and you would end up spending all your money in the pub and on handbags LOL!

  • Don't forget, that the crew quarters usually end up in the shittiest part of the boat,

and Cabin sharing is more the norm than an exception.

  • Hi

Could you advise where is the best place to start looking for a stewardess position and which mega yachts would you suggest? I want to try to apply directly or which crew recruitment agents are there to help quickly.

Any contact numbers and email addresses?

    Regards

    Helen

  • Thank the Lord! Someone who gets that I'm not dissing the industry and all of its incredible possibilites.....it is not glamorous! My work here is done....

  • it is a fun industry to be in and a very lucrative place to make money fast, but it is a lot more easy for people who are from countries like Britian, South Africa [among white SA], Australia, New Zealand to get all of that in a short amount of time, even when much of the money [particularily during the Caribbean and NE American season] is coming from American yacht owners and charter guests.

  • why is it easier for these people?

  • Because the EUROS they earn (in the Mediterranean and sometimes in the States/Caribbean depending on the yacht's registry/owner's wishes) are worth more when transferred into their own currency. Apart from the Brits - we aren't as lucky and the POUND is too strong.

  • what about canada? reply back. Ive got dual nationality - A British passport and a Canadian Passport!
