  • Dictators are no good period, even a good one like octavian.

  • Why didn't they just murder this bastard like they did Julius and save their republic?

  • @goodgirlkay Cough Legionaries Everywhere Cough

  • @goodgirlkay Did you miss the soldiers?

  • Comment removed

  • Stabbed Ceasar 27 times? WTF... thats not right is it? Was it 27 (2 + 7 = 9) times?

  • *listening to DMX "stop being greedy"* instrumental

  • Cicero gave him the praetorship...not the consulship. He seized the consulship after the Battle of Mutina against the senate's will! Sorry to be pedantic...

  • Stop quoting laws to us, we carry swords !!!. *Gnaeus Pompeius Magnus

  • @funkyfru thanks for uploading this great scene.

  • Step away from my chair...

  • Octavian got married Jan. 17th btw. Cant remember to who.

  • I know everything... and you all still lie!!! So whos the RETARD? Me or you?

  • Youngest Consul... EVER in ROME GAIUS... OCTAVIAN... CEASAR.

People dont haveto speak to me or read this. They already know Im telling the TRUTH about this and my story of my life on internet hahaha.

So what do you think of your society? Ya fuck you... now you know why "SOME" of us are all for a MILITARY DICTATORSHIP. Secret society (Assassins Creed) doesnt even work right and obviously cant be trusted.

  • Octavian allied with the Republicans long enough to build his legions and power. When he had eight or so legions, he joined Antony and Lepidus to form the 2nd Triumvirate and kill the liberatores, but first they needed money to accumulate up to 43 legions, so they started with a proscription. A lot of those senators you see didn't live very long. Oh, and Caesar was stabbed 23 times, not 27.

  • That's what Obama needs to tell Boehner and the Republican bozos!!

  • Badass....This is the definition right here.

  • pam-pam-pam pam-param pam-param!

  • And...then he started killing them off anyway.

  • They did a good job making him into a villainous kind of character.

  • Step away from my chair.

  • Russia is a FEDERATION. I bet it works like this in Russia too.

Its nothing special in usa. usa = "living the dream"

  • Tron Legacy is a good example. Flynns son had one of the most wealthy businesses in that "movie". It was part of technology and also into the future and also a "metaphor" for someone. Anyways... yeah... not what you think.

  • These senaters are some of the wealthiest in ROME. They own businesses that are very rich. WW2 with usa is a good example. Ford made weapons of warfare like PLANES. Why a car dealership? Because Ford had the money to do something like that.

  • All these senaters... why are they in this "AREA" or ROUND TABLE like thing (cant think of the word) like King Arthurs Round Table but not really.

  • They should just put a camera in every room of the Senate. And make it into a tv show called "Where your tax money goes for drama of running a country".

So whos actually paying them? HAHAHA

  • Politics still run like this. Its just smoke and mirrors now.

I didnt care (but others around me in usa did). I just wanted to play PC games and hook up with women but NOOOOOOOOO. Ok fine... gather these LEGIONNAIREs. Get me Hannibals Sacred Band with the Greeks Spartans/Myrmidons. Egypts already in bound.

Sick and tired of this shit.

  • @ApprenticeOfAnubis

LOL Yeah whatever. I would of made sure those were former Urban Cohort Legionnaires. With the 1st Cohort outside waiting to come in.

  • "Men are become of no account. Men in history, men in the world of to-day are bugs, are spawn, and are called 'the mass' and 'the herd.' ... [They] behold in the hero...content to be brushed aside like flies in their social and political inferiority. They bathe themselves in the great man's light and believe it to be their own element and will perish to add one drop of blood to make his heart beat. ...What a testament. They cast the dignity of mankind from their downtrodden selves..."

    Emerson

  • Octavian wasn't just "avenging his father" he was also removing the last chance for democracy in the Roman Empire.

  • Октавиан являются величайшими цезарь всех времен и народов

  • @ApprenticeOfAnubis - i'm pretty sure couple of hundreds were outside :))

  • According to Suetonius, Caesar was stabbed 23 times, not 27. A careless oversight by the writers. Even still, this scene is utterly brilliant.

  • Cicero didn't see it coming.... one of the best parts " step away from my chair"

  • Senate = Feminized manginas

Octavian = Son avenging his father.

  • Octavian 1 Senate 0 Cicero -1

  • @ApprenticeOfAnubis 6 guards....WITH SWORDS.

  • @PersonalityDeficit87 6 centurions from his legions! each command a cohort,(500) 4 or 5 cohorts to a legion (4000 to 5000 men) He made his point.

  • Owned!!!!!

  • Octavian hit the scene like a tsunami...

  • @SlyNicolai the military will follow orders from the leader, regardless of military experience. And did you know, that all we have to do is change the senate rules to bring back the 50+1 that was built into the constitution. Right now, any ONE man can block ANYTHING they want, and it takes 60 votes to override him. Think about that, ONE man can block a nation. Its disgusting that to get things even moving we need 60+ members of a political party. Eliminate the filibuster and things will move!!!

  • @MySororityRulesAsIf dont forget cladius.

  • great speech =)

  • Who's the script writer....the words, the characters are absolutely fantastic! =)

  • he is the biggest

  • haha, all I could think of was OMG, it's Mr. Bingley!!!

Next to Peter O'Toole, best portrayal of augutus I've seen.

  • lol @ erzan

  • love augustus, not a great general but man if you crossed his path, you wound up dead

  • Octavian YOU LIE.

  • As Pompey once said, "Stop quoting laws to me. I've got swords!"

  • "In order to avenge the death of Julius Caesar, the Republic will be reorganized into the first Roman Empire! For a safe and secure society."

Then "Order 66" takes place and Caesar's murders are assassinated... :-P

  • Woulda been so much better if they kept the old Octavian

  • OCTAVIAN SHOWS HIS RETURN TO CIVILITY BY SUPPLYING THOSE SOLDIERS TO HELP ANY SENATORS WHO WERE UNDECIDED , NOW THAT'S DEMOCRACY .

    GIANFRANCO FRONZI. AUG. 4/2011

  • Octavian was an utter genious when it came to propoganda, and nobody could control the people or the Senate like he did. Just because he was a great leader and Imperator doesn't make him a good man.

  • You guys gotta understand that often powerful figures back in those days would change or alter history books to suit them and make them look good. I don't know how you can admire anyone who can make 'Cold and calculated decisions', specially at a time where there were slaves, ridiculous treason laws and when wealth was being hoarded by the families. You might as well bend over and tell yourself George and Obama are geniuses.

  • @swiv2d Because it saved the Empire who was one of the high points of human civilization and enlightenment?

"a time where there were slaves, ridiculous treason laws and when wealth was being hoarded by the families"

That's like saying that the people who were important in releasing the slaves or ending racial segregations shouldn't be praised because they didn't end other problems that plague humanity like war, poverty or decease. Which is retarded.

  • @ThePierrekirbyfanboy ''That's like saying that the people who were important in releasing the slaves or ending racial segregations shouldn't be praised because they didn't end other problems that plague humanity like war, poverty or decease'' i didn't even say that, but they were the cause of those problems anyway. don't take it personally seeing as your the first ever fanboy of a historical figure, but I just can't admire anyone in those times regardless of what great things they might have d

  • @swiv2d Pfft. There will always be problems with the world. That doesn't mean that people can't do great things and be admired for it. The fact that they were born into a world of cruelty, death, and destruction is not their fault. They simple did what was best at the time in the ways they could. These men did more for mankind than you will ever even fathom could be done. If you can't admire that then you're the one with a problem, not me.

  • I never pictured Octavian to look/act like such a little bitch.

  • @SpadaccinoLuciano He neither looks nor ever acts like "such a little bitch". Like I wrotte bellow in the show his brilliance rears it's head several time in his childhood and by adulthood he's pretty much a genius. He's somewhat cold, calculating and ruthless when necessary. How is that being "such a little bitch"?

  • @ThePierrekirbyfanboy Yes, it rears it's head, showing brief glimpses of the TRUE Octavian. I merely feel that this show depicts him all wrong. He looks and sounds like someone I would laugh at in the Mall for listening to Linkin Park and Simple Plan, not the first Roman Emporer and a great man.

  • @ThePierrekirbyfanboy Exactally. I feel the he was NOT depicted correctly. He doesnt look like an Emporer that I could serve and stand behind, he looks like someone I would point and laugh at in the mall for listening to Linkin Park and Simple Plan, crying about bullies. Another thing, he looks so despicably...Barbarian. Blonde hair, pale skin...

Basically, I feel as if they got him all wrong in pretty much every way.

  • @SpadaccinoLuciano Well how does it feel to be completely and utterly wrong? Does it hurt? Do you dread waking up in the morning? This portrayal is awesome, Rome had plenty patrician blonds and redheads (The name Rufo ring any bells?). This Octavian is cold and calculating. He certainly wouldn't cry about bullies, hed arranje to have them killed. If you laugh at him then your life(Certainly your career) would be destroyed. He wasn't a general or even a soldier. Many great leaders weren't either.

  • @SpadaccinoLuciano If you feel that way then you know nothing of history. As soembody who's spend quite a few years studying the roman empire I say this is likely the closest portrayal to reality we'll get. He wasn't a soldier and he didn't try to be. He wasn't physically imposing and he never needed to be.He was a political animal and a genius. Which is what they portay him as. If you have your own incorrect expectations that's you fault, not the show's.

  • @SpadaccinoLuciano According to descriptions by people of the time Octavian did have very bright clear eyes, and golden hair. He was short and not a soldier. He wasn't trying to be either, he was more of a strategist with a brilliant mind for politics.

  • @mrsotter19 He didnt really, it's just that Golden hair was considered angelic. It wasnt uncommon for Roman Leaders to declare themselves gods. And when they have the power to crucify you, you just go along with it.

  • @SpadaccinoLuciano Yes, very true. I think his hair may have been medium brown with a golden tint -which is not that hard to get anyway. I was reading a description of Octavian from Wikipedia, quoting someone from that era.

  • @mrsotter19 In addition, he could of just dyed it. Im fairly sure they had dye in Ancient Rome.

  • @SpadaccinoLuciano Sure, they used henna and other herbs to enhance colour and cover up grey. I don't think they'd discovered peroxide yet LOL. However, Romans back then were not so mixed yet so they could have been quite fair. Apparently he suffered of fragile health all throughout his life. Now I wonder if he didn't get sick when it suited him.

  • @mrsotter19 Actually the Romans were quite fond of peroxide and of hair dyes.

  • @ValiumandDolls I didn't know the Romans used peroxide. I learn something everyday.

  • Everyone seems to portray Octavian as a brat. But in reality he was a genius. He avenged Julius Caesars death by hunting down Brutus and his allies. Then outsmarted Marc Antony and Cleopatra who were traitors of Rome. After he became Emperor he ushered in the Pax Romana which was Romes golden age. Its hard to find a better King, Emperor, or Ruler that accomplished what Octavian/ Augustus did!!!

  • @Rampageg22 That's how he's depicted on the show. Did you watch it all the way through yet? His brilliance rears it's head several time in his childhood in the show and by adulthood he's pretty much a genius. You have no reason to complain about his portrail in this show.

  • @ThePierrekirbyfanboy Yes I watched the whole show!!! I should have elaborated though because I wasn't referring to this shows portrayal of Octavian. But how hes been depicted in other shows or movies. Like all the Cleopatra movies that glorify her and Mark Antony. She wasn't some brilliant Queen who ruled during the golden age of Egypt. Infact Egypt was in ruins and bankrupt. Cleopatra had Julius Caesar to thank for her taking the throne. Octavian/ Augustus was 1000000 times greater than her.

  • @Rampageg22 Yes, yes you should have elaborated. You should take that sort of comments to the offending shows in that regard then.

  • @Rampageg22 I imagine you can be both. Being a genius doesn't mean you are sweet tempered. Some gifted children (and adults) feel superior to their peers and can come across as arrogant. I suppose Octavian may have been one of those people that is easier to read about than live with, IYKWIM.

  • Fuck Octavian, he wasn't half the man that Cicero was.

  • @DarkFilmDirector If we judge by the series there's something to it, but he's more gutsy though Cicero tends to run off somewhere to conspire when there's confrontations. However in reality Octavian was later known as Augustus caesar, the greatest or at least the most celebrated of all the emperors in Roman history, and quite the philosopher. He left a legacy that lasted for 1500 years or so. Same guy who sair "I found Rome made of clay, and leave her to you in marble."

  • @Tyrfingr The real Cicero was not a meager Senator, he was a Consul of Rome and he was very nearly offered a place in the 2nd Triumvirate, but turned it down because it threatened the values of the Republic. Before Octavian came along spreading his propaganda campaigns, Cicero through his own hard work and rhetoric (not coming from noble background) was first man in Rome and his philosophical and literary works are testament to this day.

  • @DarkFilmDirector Im not saying you're wrong of course. I have read Cicero's works, an unyeilding protector of laws. The world is in dire need of statesmen like him. I doubt that will ever happen again.

Octavians works i believe haven't survived. It's know that there was an autobiography of Augustus i think. Octavian was but a boy at the time, clever as he was he also tried to survive as much as his uncle did. Well it is fairly hard to speculate too much about the motifs of long dead people.

  • In some ways they seem to villainize Octavian in season 2 when in fact, he ruled the longest of any Roman Emperor (over a united empire) and had one of the most peaceful and prosperous reigns in Roman history.

  • "Step away from my chair."

    LOL, Octavian 1 Senate 0

It was kinda fun watching Octavian come up as the scrawny little kid that not many thought about at the beginning of the show to finally consolidating power as the first Roman Emperor.

  • @SlyNicolai Those two soldiers were centurions most likely from one of Caesar's legions. The Cohortes Praetoriae (Praetorian Guard) wasn't formed until Octavian defeated Antony and coerced Antony and Cleopatra's suicides. A couple of years later, one of Octavian's most loyal cohorts became his body guard. Body guard cohorts usually took the name Cohortes Praetoriae (this particular unit became THE Praetorian Guard) , gave Octavian the name Augustus, and made him Emperor.

  • @AtownAngeLz There where six, 4 went too the sides of the room and 2 went to stand next too octavian ;)

And those men where mostly likely from the 13th legion first cohort, which where considered the best and loyal of a legion (the first cohorts that is). And for the rest your completly right on how the preatorian guard was formed.

  • Who will speak against the motion? PWNED

  • AMERICA

  • and that my friends, is how you overthrow a republic

  • When the guards entered the room... I came.

  • Soldiers draw swords."Who will speak against the motion?"

    Excellent moment.

  • Simple yet beautiful ownage!!!!!

  • "step away from my chair" lol bitched

  • "who will speak against the motion?" with the army about to draw their swords. Octavian shows the Senate who's in charge.

  • hail octavian/augstus!!!

  • hail octavian/augstus

  • this was a great scene, I wish they continued this series.

  • 0:59

i just expect in the utter silence for octavian to go :.......hi

  • Most epic scene in television history. :P

  • Cicero's pouting. His ego was just stomped on by a 19 year old. I believe he says that he was outmanouevered by a child to Tyro.

  • They should to start doing Roman movies in Latin instead of English.

  • The way Octavian is portrayed, reminds me of the character "Anna," the alien leader from the tv-series "V."

  • just a trivia guys for those who wish to know:the senate thought they could beat antonius with the forses of octavian and then with some way to kick him of his powers..cicero was so convinced this plan would work that they didn't do much job to hide it from octavian....and they thought they were smart???lol.....

  • its mr.bingley!!!!

  • closed captions: to declare brutus and kathy's...motorists.

    oh man.

  • @EddieTheFishReturns I didn't watch it with captions. The captions. Whatever. Either which way, when I read that, I burst into laughter. Thanks for the lol.

  • The Senate was OWNED! OWNED, ya hear me?!!? LMAO xD I just love Octavian... HAIL Caesar!

  • Welcome to the dawn of an EMPIRE!

  • Senate = OWNED

  • LOL - and they thought Julius Caesar was oppressive. What goes around comes around.

  • @Shrawty Too true. At least Julius was playing by the old rules. Octavian pulled some shit that would become a staple in the tyrant's playbook for 2,000 years – Saddam Hussein pulled exactly the same move in Iraq, and dictators in other countries take advantage of the same blurred line between military and government to elevate themselves.

In the U.S., it would be like if Gen. Petraeus waltzed into Washington with the 3ID, the 101st and a couple Marine divisions and declared himself ruler.

  • @GozerTheGozerian omg are you listening to yourself?Augustus was a jenius.have you heard anything about the pax romana?have you heard that he saved rome from economic crisis many times?on january 3, 27 b.c he said to the senate ok i'm done i give you back all the authorities.and do you know their answer?of course you do.they gave him the title Augustus and much more authorities.it was the day principatus began along with an era of peace.

  • @GozerTheGozerian he fixed everything in the empire.the army, the economy, even the society.he gave a huge ammount of his fortune to build temples, make new roads and also cause of the laws to be in the senate you needed a fortune of at least 1.000.000. he saved many by giving them money.of course he was the ruler of the empire.he didn't accept the title "tyrant" ans the title "imperator" ment only a successful general and not king as does today.

  • @GozerTheGozerian he was the princeps, the 1st among the people & the power of the state was his & only his.but he did everything through the senate & the people of rome.it wasn't a kingdom but also wasn't a democracy or a tyranny.say what u want about who u want,it's ur right & i can't tell u not to.but before calling Augustus a tyrant read roman history.read about his lifetime work.did you know he let livia to have her own economics??2000 ago a man did that for a woman.what a tyrant after all.

  • @liokiko1992 Dude, he was the first true emperor of Rome. An emperor is a tyrant. The names may have been different, and like any ruler he had to contend with threats to himself and his nation, but he was still a ruler with absolute power and the final say on any decision.

To say that "he did everything through the Senate and the people of Rome" is like saying 99.9 percent of people voted for Ahmadinejad in Iran. It was a Republic for appearances only.

  • @GozerTheGozerian i'm just saying that the word tyrant is not the right one.there was a war before him.marius and sulla, pompey, crassus and caesar(first triumvirate) and finally octacian himself, mark antony and lepidus(second triumvirate).rome needed a leader and augustus was the one to play that part.anyway i wasn't there but the fact that people loved him and celebrated him as a god from 27 b.c even though he was still alive means he must have done something right.

  • @GozerTheGozerian the state was already called imperium romanum(the place where the word of the people of rome is law).also the word tyrant in th begining had a different meanng as well.caligula(37-41 a.d) ,nero(54-68 a.d), domitian(81-96 a.d) & commodus(180-192 a.d) where tyrants with th full meaning of the word.but augustus was charismatic.even th senate was acting like a tyrant.they killed tiberius gracchus & then his brother gaius invoking senatus consultum ultimum(rome in condition of war)

  • @GozerTheGozerian actually, the word you are looking for is dictator, not tyrant.

  • And that children is the definition of the word "owned"

  • Octavian is awesome !!!!! aver ceacar !!!!

  • You know, I can't help but wonder whether the character of Havelock Vetinari was based on this man.

  • Begun the clone war has.

  • interesting fact: some historians believe Augustus had a mild form of autism since he was a great stratagist but lousy with people.

  • @curlzferrero Wow, where did you read this?

  • His eyes are so scary. Like a snake's.

  • @ansketil I find him sexy as hell.

  • Comment removed

  • I had a list of favorite scenes throughout the first season and beginning of the second. I forgot them all, I think when I saw this one. Anyway, he was my favorite character in the show. Both actors did an amazing job and stood out from the rest of the cast, though they were all very good. I'd been worried that the adult actor wouldn't live up to how well I felt that the actor who portrayed young Octavian did but I wad pleasantly surprised!

  • Cicero :"My dear boy this is not what we agreed"

Octavian: "It is not. Nevertheless, here we are" loool

  • Octavian: "You have traditions and the authority of hundreds of years of rule . I have a few thousand cold blooded killers with very sharp swords. I win."

That is how you get stuff done.

  • man Octavian is a bamf

  • I don't know why but in season 01 I liked Octavian very much not however in season 02

  • I love this scene. I can't tell who I side with more. On one hand, Rome needed a powerful leader like Octavian to flush out the rot that was destroying Rome. On the other hand, Cicero's wisdom was so far beyond all others that he knew that even though revenge was justified, it would come at the cost of sacrificing everything that made Rome a sustainable republic. Brilliant scene.

  • haha :D Octavian's "step away from my chair" sounded more like "know your place, bitch!!!"

  • @greatviking13 Romans wouldn't know what. "Step away from my chair." sounded more like "I'm in charge now and you're marked for death. Caesar made the mistake of giving you clemency. I won't."

  • And so it begins....

  • @yocheco619 i would add just 2 words to your comment.

    Augustus:and so the legend begins!!!!

  • Karma... Came back to bite the senate in the ass. Exactly what is needed today. A strong leader of iron will and a greater vision to run out the old money grubbing senators.

  • Octavian 1

    Senate : 0

  • @2misterA

    Anti-christ: 1

    Congress: 0

    We're in deep shit....

  • @anythingnew in very deap ? :O

  • Here's my theory.

The US constitution falls just like these Republics, then some guy gets control of our military and then he takes over. He's gonna be very cunning and brilliant that he will unite all nations under one banner. Then New World Order begins. And the mark of the beast is assigned so as to fix the economic situation. Then..... Jesus? Maybe? You decide.

  • @anythingnew agreed. constitution is gonna die anyways in the passes of time, its only inevitable.

  • @stringerboi

But the real question is.... Will this bring about the Messiah's return? That's the creepy part...

  • @anythingnew lol the messiah wont come for awhile. things still have to happen before he does

  • @anythingnew Oh my god lol. You scared me for a bit there, thought you were serious. Cause everyone knows the anti-christ is coming on dec 21 2012 in China when all the planets align and the force is strong with him.

  • @AndyHocvs

Hey, yeah, I was serious when I posted that. I doubt 12/21/12 will happen. Maybe it'll be something big that effects the world, but it's not the end of it.

And I doubt that China will become some evil empire. They just have a very careless government.

  • @AndyHocvs .... Uhm.... I didn't know. And now that I do know.... I don't believe it! There is no, and never will be any antichrist. We are our own nemesis.

Otherwise than that, great clip. One of my favourite scenes in the series. Octavian chills me to the bone.

  • @anythingnew

you realize the whole point of the US supporting Israel is that the crazies in charge think that in order for jesus to return israel has to be destroyed and that's literally the only reason they send money there to keep them alive. Also that happens all throughout history, France, Nazi Germany, Tsarist Russia, China, etc whenever a country becomes near death from inside corruption and system rot revolution takes place

  • The scene at the very end when the soldiers enter the senate chamber gives me chills; we think of military dictatorships as a bad thing today, but this one short scene will usher in a new era of peace in Italy, the Pax Romana. Augustus is the opposite of the selfish tyrant.

  • IT IS MY CHAIR!!!! :P

  • Hot Damn

  • Vi Victa Vis

  • Jesus, the only thing that changes in politics is the clothes, unreal haha

  • Octavian just lifted up his robe, rolled out the biggest, fattest cock EVER and slapped Cicero right across his face with A SINGLE LOOK.

BEAT THAT, TYRA!! lol. "Step away from my chair." indeed.

Bitch better back the fuck up when Octavian is making a statement.

  • I wonder if our Republic will die in the same way as Roma?

  • @MindingMyOwnBiz

Let me assure you. IT WILL!

  • Best scene in Rome

  • hey does anyone know the actor who plays octavian?

  • @markielover That's Simon Woods, who also played Mr. Bingley in Pride & Prejudice (the one with Keira Knightley). That's all I really know him from, though, sorry. Try imdb.com for more info.

  • That's what happens when the upper class steals the wealth from the middle class. There were three classes, the Senatorial, the Equestrians and the Plebians. The balance of the Republic was the Equestrians, the original middle class businessmen, but they were marginalized by the monopolistic practices of the senatorial classes and Roman politics degenerated into a mob supporting a tyrant. Anyone see any parallels?

  • damn, i wanted to see someone speak against the motion

  • I love diplomatic tricks. Especially ones of such right and honesty.

  • "My dad was murdered. Your argument is invalid."

  • @Agent1W If all you're going to do is just quote what you see in the video then quote it correctly.

  • @MrChug That's how Octavian would have said it in modern l33tspeak! :)

  • @MrChug In Italian? Umm...nah, it probably wouldn't have transferred well on HBO.

  • RESPECT!!!!!!!!!!!!
