  • What's up with Dennis Edwards' eyebrows, though - looking like Mr. Distressed - but I do love this - thanks for the vintage upload.

  • The tempts were otis and melvin everyone else werr just great singersthey were the core

  • The comment made by Glyyyde, you are either brain dead, or tone death if you think that Dennis sound better than David, that goes to show you, that you don't know anything about music. It's not even open for discussion, everyone knows that David had a much better voice than Dennis. And another thing don't speak on something that you don't know anything about. Don't always believe what the media says about a person.

  • @anntheia59 You, sir have no respect!

  • i love how the dude at 3:20 sing ....

  • @mschest Otis wrote his book in 1989, Eddie, David, and Melvin were all still alive.

  • PS Dennis is not better than David

  • mono sux where is the stereo version of this video?? btw stereo was available in those days

  • This event is from 1973 put together by Jesse Jackson for equailty and peace.

  • original temps the best . this funk sucks

  • Great performance of a classic funk-psychedelic jam! Btw, that four microphone stand is still the bomb! LOL. Thanks for posting!

  • I'm sorry, but black people could not dance back then. LOL

  • not the temps ;(

  • You ain't noffin without david ruffan... Lies.

You'd dig this if you like the temps.

  • WOW...what happened to that dude? He could blow!!!

  • Damon was the best replacement to eddie he was great! shame he didnt last long at all

  • @Pur0mexico I so agree with that. He was the only one that really sounded like him!

  • @Pur0mexico Im sorry but the words "great replacement" jst cant apply for the tempts. Without Eddie and David the temptations were jst a group in SEARCH of eddie and david.

  • @Glyyyyde

Dennis Edwards is better than David Ruffin. Better voice, better professional. David Ruffin thought he was bigger than the group and quickly found out that he needed the Tempts a lot more than they needed him.

Eddie Kendricks is one of the great tenors/falsettos in music history. Ron Tyson is probably the closest facsimile the group had.

  • @Briggsy3365 Dennis Edwards is great in his own right, but he could not match the talent/showmanship David Ruffin possessed . And Dennis Edwards was a SEVERE alcoholic, infact he was almost ousted from the group numerous times, but for whatever reason otis kept giving him more chances. David Ruffin had that "hurt" sound ot his voice Edwards could only dream of having.

As Far as Eddie Kendricks go, you'll find no arguments here. Kendricks took tenor to the next level, and his voice=breathtaking.

  • @Briggsy3365

totally disagree. David and Eddie were the Temps. They could never be replaced. Otis, and Paul and Melvin could have been. I am not saying Dennis wasn't great but no David.

  • @Pur0mexico hey men can you tell the year in that damon left the group, and the reason, cause he did?

  • @JUAREZ1872 , he departed in 1975 and formed a spin off group called Damon Harris presenting the temps, which didnt last long as you can imagine.

  • Man I hate those 70's suits!! That's the thing that ruins the look.

  • i am so glad i was a kid in the 70's such a great era to grow up in . love the music back then . thanks great !!!!

  • how did dennis face change over the years he looks like a crackhead

  • Mary Wilson of THE Supremes saved all her Supremes' gowns I hope someone has done the same with all these great outfits that ThE Tempts have including the ones with the capes. Maybe she should have a museum of combined groups, but not in DETROIT

  • Bad as all get out! The Temptations!

  • how about you guys really don't know nothing about the tempations. Otis didn't run shit like in the movies, he waited till everyone died to put out that movie. My great uncle was Melvin, the bass singer. My family knows the real deal!

  • I hate to agree with you but you are right. You can look at his character and tell that he's standoffish. That's not a leader. If I had to take a guess on who was more outspoken I'd say Melvin and Eddie. Enlighten us on the real deal

  • Clearly the movie is written from Otis's point of view. Of course I cannot be sure what's real and what's fiction. It appears that it was Melvin who valued the Primes and was inspired to bring the two group together. Would you say that this is how it really came down?

  • Otis is the HNIC, he ran everything.

  • @Cuban

Yeah, as much as I love that movie (because it's so damn entertaining), I always thought a lot of it was some straight foolywangery though. I had a very hard time being convinced that Otis ran stuff like portrayed in the movie, so I hope that your fam will one day put something out from their perspective.

  • @Cuban706 Really? I want to learn more.

  • @Cuban706

I agree with you. I always said, if David, Eddie and Melvin were alive, Otis would never have told that story the way he did.

  • @Cuban706 have some respect i'm pretty sure u weren't in the midst of things when it was happening back in the day. And it's said to this day that the writers didn't actually take an accurate portrayl of Otis book, i'm sure it wasn't that he ran things but he was the glue to hold everything together. let them all rest in peace and just enjoy these classics from them

  • eddie could have not sung tempt me no better than tyson, glen sang that song first, eddie lost his voice, you haters don!t think anyone else can sing as good as eddie and david! the tempts have had eddie, damon, glen, and tyson all these years and all of them could sing, or otis would have put them out the group.

  • After Ruffin ,Eddie, Paul and Melvin were gone! The tempts lost their signature sound!~Otis just found some good, and a few great singers to keep the Brand alive!~Someone should have told him , when you lose one of your Signature voices, you have to get real close to that style and sound when comes time to replace them. As a true Tempts fan from the beginning, if i was to go see the New Tempts perform, if not the look ! I must hear those same sweet sounds! It's not there! Otis wants a paycheck!

  • Hey we all want a paycheck. Unfortunately if you don't sing, you don't eat. I luv all the classic temps and it is very hard for me to replace them with new faces, but I understand that this is Otis' job and he needs it all including the fame to keep going. It is actually a sad story, cuz all my black brothers died much too young. I think the tragedy of life w/temps is why we are so enamored by them.

  • the temptations have a song called "temp me". Its a really great love song and ron tyson does awesome with it. But if eddie was still alive he would have killed that song. Alot more babies would have been made the night the phoenix rising album was released!

  • No matter what, there is no tenor sound sweeter than eddie's voice.

  • damon was a younger version of eddie to bad they didn't keep him

  • damon also sang with a group called "impact" before he was a temp

  • Damon is from Baltimore Md, and his group was called The Vandels,The single they had back then was called I'm gonna wait~! I wish someone could find that, and post it, it's clear Eddie was a great influence on him!~ First verse , my love havd me blinded,.. I don't think you minded if i did!~ And Damon was ! and always will be the closet to the Kendircks sound ,peroid! The story i heard why he was fired! was he backed talked Gordy and Gordy told Otis to get rid of him. to BADD!!!~ SO SADD!!

  • Danon Harris who is from Baltimore md, He was lead singer of local Bmore called The Vandels. the record that had out then was called I'm gonna wait! then superstardom hit, called The temptations.

best Eddie replacement sound wise they ever had! but there's only One EDDIE k!

  • damon is the one that sound eddie ron doesn't anything like eddie beside he was cut

  • damon sounded like eddie, but those that followed him were not bums! glen was in the group 8 years and ron 25 years, so the tempts had eddie, ricky owens for a cup of coffe, then damon, next glen and currently ron for 25 yrs, not counting the late mr. owens because he never recorded with the group that is 4 tenors in fifty years of tempts, and one guy is 25yrs,the group didn!t falter because Eddie left and when they fired his sound alike Damon!

  • why was Damon fired? Rumor had it that he wouldn't give up his ***.

  • The story is that he got what some call LSD (lead singers disease). Success got to him and he started getting cocky. Despite that, I have heard Otis do nothing but sing his praises when it comes to vocal ability, and as you can hear was/is an amazing tenor. If his work on the Temptations recorded material isn't enough to convince you, get the album Live in Japan. His version of Just my imagination is AWESOME, and he sings his signature tempts piece "Love Woke Me Up This Morning" which is amazing

  • I cant agree I have that album and he murders just my imagination . I also saw them In manchester about that time and for me the voice then was Richard street. But none can compare to Paul,Eddie,David and Melvin imo.

  • I love all those guys too. yes we disagree about hsi version of JMI, but I think he's a great tenor. He however last on my list of favorite 1st tenors in the temptations. And personally, If you want to talk about people doing JMI really good, glenn sounded awesome on it but didn't really bring anything new to it, whereas Ron Tyson's version of the song has some "eddie" in there, but it is definately HIS song when he does it. Ron's live version is my favorite by far.

  • the Replacements that came after Paul and Eddie and Paul were Good, but not Great.

The People Remember the Temps as the classic 5 or when dennis Replaced David, after that it all became irrelevant and boring, to me

  • not the same without david and eddie.

  • whou! ca envoie

  • Damon was easily the best replacement for Eddie followed by Ron Tyson.

  • Damon was the only man who could sound like Eddie.

The other guys were ok but Damon was the closest.

  • i agree with you.

  • damn damon sounds like a young eddie man

  • FINALLY someone has posted this on yt. thanks!

  • oh yeh I was waitin on this too

  • top track

  • that´s alright
