No, Power rangers had at least some effort into it. This was half-assed. And wait until you see Great or Powered. Both really aren't that great ,forgive the pun.
Point is ,the things we saw in the US in the nineties ,even today are watered down or altered from the originals ,sometimes for the violent /provocative content ,maybe even rip the story away. All pretty much came from Japan and actually they are pretty interesting to look at. a production perspective .
From the original to the adaptation/dub, a ton of things take place where its made to be up the FCC code of censorship. Like taking anything out of a fictional Tv program will prevent violence or death. It's just a scapegoat the older generation ,which reveled in RACIST/OFFENSIVE and highly violent media themselves uses so they can do what the parents should be doing all along.
Take a look at the shows which spawned these programs. They might be to your liking.
Tim Curry, hell of a man, hell of a resume: Dr frankenferter, Voice of a villain on cyber squad, villian in scary movie 2, additional voice in power rangers, etc etc etc
@AtticusRh0des still a hell of a lot better than Matthew Lawrence's resume.
Kid show with copped Japanese footage...Boy Meets World...failed TV show with Joey Lawrence and little brother...disney movie with Joey Lawrence and little brother...another disney movie with Joey Lawerence and brother...
@AtticusRh0des yeah wasn't he IT (pennywise the clown) too! That shit gives my younger cousin nightmares, so i posted a huge IT clown picture on his computer and wrote in quotes "I'm coming for you!!!"
hahaha it made me laugh a lot...haha shit, im laughing about it right now!
I remember this show, I think the only reason I watched this show was because of Matthew Lawerance I was in love with his brother Joey Lawerance around this time.
Why do all the 90s American toku show themes all sound the same like they try to tell the entire story in song and it seems like all the songs are by the same person.
I agree. I can't believe I used to watch this show too. I mean I guess it was better when I was a kid. But I do not think I could watch any more cheese.
This brings back so many memories. I used to watch this in the morning before I went to school. They played it back to back at 7 am. That was my excuse to get up early in the morning, lol.
I actually thought this was a pretty cool series. Not so bad for an American adaptation of a Tokusatsu series. Actually I enjoyed this more than Power Rangers, which had many plotholes and errors sometimes when Japanese scenes were spliced in with American footage.
And I'm not really just trying to defend this show, but saying that both sides need to give it a rest, because in reality, both these shows are a rip off of old jap shows. So both are guilty of being "bad" in their own sense. If SHSSS is bad, then so is PR, and goes for vise versa. That's my verdict...
I mean I started off with watching this show and not power rangers, and I didn't like power rangers even though I did try watching it. But you don't see me bitching about Power Rangers, now do you?
To people who say this show sucked, stop bitching. Seriously. The only reason you say it does, is because you all started of with power rangers, thus dismissing this show as being "bad".
Am I the only one who found it cool that Tim Curry played the voices of Bad Guys. He was the bad guy in this show and He was SKULLMASTER on Mighty Max! Both of those shows were awesome.
I saw this when I was like 4.Did it end or was it cancled? Also, was it made by Tsubuya studios or whatever the name of the company that made Ultraman?
I don't think so. The ranger series were originally produced by Toei, while Gridman was produced by Tsuburaya Productions, the same company that created Ultraman (Hense why they look so similar). So technically this show isn't really a rip-off as much as it is a spin-off. (And a damned cool one at that.) This show was one of my favs as a kid. It also made me want to watch Ultraman when that came around.
This followed Rush Limbaugh on my local WB affiliate before it was moved to WGN to follow Geraldo.
I do remember being a little more loyal to this than USA's "Tatooed Teenage Alien Fighters from Beverly Hills" whenever "Power Rangers" was in reruns, and the show was probably the darkest of all such shows at the time, but did it have a talking dog? No. VR Troopers wins.
Sorry man. this is the only non Ultra like being that I like. He's almost like Ultraman. Unfortunitly he's another giant hero like Inframan, Spectraman, Miroirman, fireman, and Greenman. But, damn. He came close to an Ultraman. I still think he's pretty Awsome. Oh... His real name is, "GRIDMAN".
Megazord would have owns that piece of shit lol
