I have owned and driven trucks in the canadian north for years, and am currently driving truck in Europe. I would love to try out a Scania in Canada, mostly for the power. However, I can see a problem with ground clearance, first of all. Some of the places you have to haul to in the oilfields, for example, you wouldn't get to with any of the trucks pictured here. Too low, too much fairing that could get ripped off, etc. The european truck I'm driving at the moment wouldn't last 3 days over there

Something i dont understand is why on the TV-show Iceroad truckers they are driving in the cold with american trucks.. and they arent made for cold i guess beacuse they have allot of problems with the coler and things.. why dont they use Scania ?? Scania is made for cold winters. they can handle it.. And no i dont hate american trucks i think they look better on their own way.. But still i like Scania more
I dislike the looks of the long noses over their cab overs but only their day cabs look nice, rest of them remind me of RV's. I know Europe keeps a differant standard but I would take a Paccar over a Scania any day.

does it matter on how you load a truck in relationship to fuel economy. i mean it better to load heavy to the center of the trailer and keep truck lighter or load more on the truck side to keep trailer side lighter. any thoughts?
Theres both euros and american in Australia and if you want a comfy ride and no load go for a scania, but if you want to pull a road train or a real load you need the american breeds

@codypal55 They're Euro trucks hence they're mainly in Europe. They use to have dealers in the states but sadly they weren't very popular and closed. So if you would like one, you must fly it over from Europe. :)

@Scoobmeister volvo is a much bigger company then scania and will put out an 800pluss engine real soon im sure. in the rest of europe its only a few trucks speced with power engines while here many are for the tonage and hills.
so they dont make very drivable engines in that range, they got the hp, but not the flat torque curve.

@lamborghini2448 i work for scania GB , its not that companys have moved away from flat fronts , its because of law in the UK, having a bonneted 'T cab' with the engine infront of the driver makes the cab longer , and due to length restrictions in the UK means u have to use a shorter trailer meaning less payload which companys do not like. So to make more money many companys use the flat front cab being the P and R cab so that they can have a longer trailer. So your whole point is now a FAIL!

If you dont know them check them out youll be impressed if you like trucks. They are super reliable , nothing breaks / goes wrong except for servicing. They have very big low stress engines ( 26.5 V10 - on the Nissans , 30.3 V10 on the Isuzus all no turbos! ) they never have to work hard and very good fuel consumption. Cant praise them enough . Better than anything Euro ( sorry guys ) or USA.
@naturalyshocked Yes I know there is nothing wrong with turbos , It is just the Japanese way of doing it ( to have bigger engine with no turbo ) their thinking is there is something less to go wrong. I know the engines only run to less than 2000rpm , I meant the turbo itself runs at high rpm ( I am not exactly sure the figure). I didnt know Mercedes make a V10 engine. We used to rent MAN tractor units from BRS which had V10 but that was 10 yrs+ ago now.
Scanias are good trucks without doubt but the best trucks are Japanese. The company I work for has several here in UK. They arnt very common in UK , very few about . I have a Nissan Diesel ( UD)Big Sam ( 2000 6x4 tractor ) The company also has Isuzu Giga Tractors and a 6 wheel rigid flat bed. I am completely sold on these trucks they are fantastic.

@Scoobmeister volvo is a much bigger company then scania and will put out an 800pluss engine real soon im sure. in the rest of europe its only a few trucks speced with power engines while here many are for the tonage and hills.
so they dont make very drivable engines in that range, they got the hp, but not the flat torque curve.

@lamborghini2448 i work for scania GB , its not that companys have moved away from flat fronts , its because of law in the UK, having a bonneted 'T cab' with the engine infront of the driver makes the cab longer , and due to length restrictions in the UK means u have to use a shorter trailer meaning less payload which companys do not like. So to make more money many companys use the flat front cab being the P and R cab so that they can have a longer trailer. So your whole point is now a FAIL!

If you dont know them check them out youll be impressed if you like trucks. They are super reliable , nothing breaks / goes wrong except for servicing. They have very big low stress engines ( 26.5 V10 - on the Nissans , 30.3 V10 on the Isuzus all no turbos! ) they never have to work hard and very good fuel consumption. Cant praise them enough . Better than anything Euro ( sorry guys ) or USA.

the bearing from the turbo suffers less stress, as they are bigger and run slower.
nothing wrong with a turbo diesel.
i'm sure it's even better to have a turbo in Co2 and other dirt.

@naturalyshocked Yes I know there is nothing wrong with turbos , It is just the Japanese way of doing it ( to have bigger engine with no turbo ) their thinking is there is something less to go wrong. I know the engines only run to less than 2000rpm , I meant the turbo itself runs at high rpm ( I am not exactly sure the figure). I didnt know Mercedes make a V10 engine. We used to rent MAN tractor units from BRS which had V10 but that was 10 yrs+ ago now.

Scanias are good trucks without doubt but the best trucks are Japanese. The company I work for has several here in UK. They arnt very common in UK , very few about . I have a Nissan Diesel ( UD)Big Sam ( 2000 6x4 tractor ) The company also has Isuzu Giga Tractors and a 6 wheel rigid flat bed. I am completely sold on these trucks they are fantastic.

5 years is just fiscal based.
it's just better to write off, if you buy a new truck every 2 years.
if your machine is older you can't write it off anymore as a new truck, because that's it's all pure benefit.
if you have to take credits and stuff, you can write those off as losts.
that's how our VAT system works.
