I may not be a real Vaquero, but I do follow in the true meaning of it. I train colts and rope cows. I may not be the best but there's a difference in the true Vaquero and the cheap shit that people think they are now. Thumbs up if you follow.
Hey Howdy Buckaroo! I got busted up punchin cows and became a saddlemaker and built a wade tree which used to be a little rare in Yavapai County. Pushin' scrub oak will turn a hand tooled rig into rough out fer sure, but the heart and work is the same more or less ..... huh.
It shore a hell does matter if'n ye call call yer self a Buckaroo 'r a Cowpuncher, cause if yer tryin' to git hired on the ORO's it ain't go'na hep ya'll if yer a Buckaroo .... (big grin, but true) other than that, we are all sailin' in the same boat which is under attack from ever shore. JUST GOOD, PURTY WORK!
Different strokes for different folks in different place. Its all about what your into, my self i come from The Great Basin and I'm into the Vaquero traditions, lived on the same ranch my whole life in a small town in northern Nevada. Third generation doin what my dad and my grandfather did, starting colts and training horses and around here we call ourselves Vaqueros and you respect a man who knows his heritage and the traditions he practices.
now this is real music im from mariposa california and i wear armitas with a flat brim hat and jingle bob spurs and a ryan cope wade slickfork saddle and i can relate to this
It doesn't matter if you call yourself a Cowboy or a Buckaroo, Broncstomper or a Twister, all of us that have forked a bronc for a pay can all relate to this. It's not a profession...it's a way of life! WoopAhh
Well I ain't a stranger to slickfork saddles, or sagebrush but i prefer a rough out saddle to a tooled one, a modified association tree to a wade and 35 to 40 foot of nylon 3/8 scant rope and raised shank spurs over dropped shank with jinglebobs and i live in mesquite, catclaw 'er scrub oak brush and go by cowpuncher not buckaroo, but the work is purty much the same (we don't feed hay in the winter) and this is a great song that catches the feelin' that comes from makin' your livin' horseback!
@mesquiterider I'm a wade, 60' 5/16, raised shank, batwinged willow blazer!! Haha, you might come from different parts of the world with different gear, but we can all relate to this one!!
His music makes me want to quit my desk job and hit the open range. And then I realize how much work that would be, and I'm happy just roping after work. Thanks Dave - for helping us feel a bit more western.
I had the pleasure of getting to see Dave perform at Winfield, KS in September. Since then I think I have memorized most of his songs, and this is one that has definitely grown on me. I wasn't sure I liked it at first, but now it's one of my faves!
He's an awesome performer and one of the most literary composers I've ever met....check out his "Mountains of the Heart" for haunting visual imagery. The chorus is pure magic!
Great! :)

Great song. He's got a great voice. If you've got Campfire Waltz or Dusty Road from the same gig I'd sure love to see it.

If you watch this video and the others on Youtube, you can pick it up. Better yet, try to catch him in concert; these videos do him no justice.
