Wow, you tree huggers are really confusing me because when I was in grammar school they all kept bitching about using too many aerosol spray cans. They were preaching that the chemicals in these cans were causing some kinda hole in the atmosphere or some shit and also that co2 out put was also doing something to help that hole get bigger. So long story short less then 40 years ago we were experiencing... or at least the media/government paid scientist hype was that we were experiencing... a global cooling from similar if not the same exact chemicals that the media/government paid scientists are now saying causes global warming. Interesting and as I remember it back in the mid 70's the government was issuing certain taxes on said type of self propellant cans (aerosol) as well as several other small commodities.
I guess the Government realized these smaller commodities were not large enough tax subsidies and had to scrap the idea and shoot for a bigger more largely consumed commodity that is used all the time (Big Oil). Nice plan to legally place a government tax on a commodity we the people have to use daily. I hate to break this news to the scientific community but there's this neat thing in the sky or nearby outer-space to be technically accurate. It's called the sun, a star, Sol, whatever you want to call it. It's really, really, really hot and it warms up the planet Earth. Earth is where we are. Earth has water on it, water evaporates when it gets hot. The evaporated water creates clouds. Clouds are neat, they retain some moisture from the water that was evaporated to make them.
Clouds sometimes drop rain ('water' for the lay person) when there is too much moisture in them, sometimes they drop snow depending on where you live on Earth. However, we don't have clouds all the time, sometimes it's just a nice clear day. The technical term for all of this is called "Climate," can you say that? I'll go slow, Cli-mmm-at-e. The climate is almost always in a constant change due to that really big yellow ball in the sky called the sun, remember the sun? Yeah? Good.
Another term we have for all this is "weather," let's say it together, wea-th-er. OK, I think you're getting the picture again Mr. scientific community. This is what I'm helping work towards and I know it's not popular or cool but fuck it, fight for what you believe in, after all, that's how we got women's rights, that's how we got laws. 75% of people diagree with the other 25% views but the smaller voices fight and fight and eventually come out on top, then we find 50 years later, it's a completely accepted law or right and no-one questions it. here in the uk the government is building a massive biofuel depot to replace a coal fired power station. The products wont come in by rail but will come in by hundreds of poluting trucks and will only generate 1/5th the power the old plant. solar power isnt able to generate enough power to replace a single station. wind power, everywhere in the uk that has a wind turbine also has a power sub-station for when its "not windy".
You didn't mention the signs you have. The ones that light up through Solar and Wind energy. The ones that cost over a thousand pounds to put in. The ones that are required BY LAW to have a regular sign that says the same thing for when it is dark and not windy.

You opened the speech with "you evolved from monkeys and there's no purpose to your life, and you're all going to die and everything will be pointless, just like it is now." I don't know about you guys but I am really motivated by this video. If you really read all through the script we can not ignore the fact that we humans are the major cause of global warming. And I don't believe it is just a cycle.
It is true that we must abandon nuclear technology and revolutionize clean renewable energy.
The part i don't believe is that they know what is going to happen. I don't think they actually know how global warming will play out, what it will do to us, and how it will affect our survival. And that is a much more important question than whether it is happening or not.
Actually its not too hard to figure out. Temperature gets warmer, ice in the north melts. Centuries worth of methane gas trapped beneath the polar ice releases into the atmosphere, increasing temperature further. Oceans get bigger, land disappears, storms escalate. Earth's delicate balance is destroyed, species disappear at an exponential rate, eventually the ecosystem collapses. Food becomes scarce, the economy is rendered irrelevant, society implodes, and we're left to fend for ourselves.
The best thing to do is genetic engineering of plants.We need to do it CAREFULLY.If we can increase the source of food NOT ONLY for humans, but for all animals so that they may survive, the plants will consume the excess CO2 in the environment and produce more O2, given that we give them lots more space and we stop reproducing like cockroaches.This will allow food to grow in warm areas AND cold areas, which may counter the climate instability and solve the hunger in infertile lands like Africa.
If we humans can get over our egotistical views,the investment in plants and their future will create a mutual symbiosis that will enable animals (including us) to survive as well.And yes, humans are often wrong.This is why plants are so much better.Let's do the smart thing and save what could save us.

Nice try, but I think you failed at the "how" and the "why". You opened the speech with "you evolved from monkeys and there's no purpose to your life, and you're all going to die and everything will be pointless, just like it is now." Then you closed with, "we want people to remember us well because there's no point to our lives so maybe if we do good now, it will feel like we have purpose, even though we don't." ...I'm not convinced.

Holy crap! Spelling aside, that was one of the best thought-out and relevant speeches I've heard. Great message, author. You're totally right that we've got to tweak our mindset to think about what we consume and how our decisions really do matter.
And if this speech just happens to get you into the recycling habit, or send an email to someone who makes decisions asking to make something happen, then it's a hell of a good start.

The part i don't believe is that they know what is going to happen. I don't think they actually know how global warming will play out, what it will do to us, and how it will affect our survival. And that is a much more important question than whether it is happening or not.

Actually its not too hard to figure out. Temperature gets warmer, ice in the north melts. Centuries worth of methane gas trapped beneath the polar ice releases into the atmosphere, increasing temperature further. Oceans get bigger, land disappears, storms escalate. Earth's delicate balance is destroyed, species disappear at an exponential rate, eventually the ecosystem collapses. Food becomes scarce, the economy is rendered irrelevant, society implodes, and we're left to fend for ourselves.

The best thing to do is genetic engineering of plants.We need to do it CAREFULLY.If we can increase the source of food NOT ONLY for humans, but for all animals so that they may survive, the plants will consume the excess CO2 in the environment and produce more O2, given that we give them lots more space and we stop reproducing like cockroaches.This will allow food to grow in warm areas AND cold areas, which may counter the climate instability and solve the hunger in infertile lands like Africa.

Well, let's just say they're much better adapted to the environment. And they're making the world more viable as opposed to destroying it.
My post was more a suggestion though. If we could put aside our egos and realize that we are completely dependent on the O2 that only plants are making we might not have this problem. We need to increase their lifespan and reproduction if we actually want to go on with this comfortable lifestyle we have, and have grown accustomed to. Compromise with plants!
