"However, Brian and Diz have never played on a record." - They were actually on the original demo tape produced in 1981 by Les Payne of which I am fortunate enough to have a copy, with a ticket stub signed by Fish, Mick Pointer and Brian Jelliman!
I stand corrected. I was thinking of Marillion starting at the time of the first album, irrespective of previous personnel that led up to that. I should have clarified my earlier post.
Great song by Marillion. The demo version accents the guitar nicely...higher treble for a sparkle effect. The solo is also outstanding. There is no band on earth this fantastic.
Rothery began to play the guitar at the age of 15. In 1979, he saw an ad in the music press for a band called Silmarillion that needed a guitarist. He auditioned successfully for the band (19 August 1979). From this point he concentrated more on melody, composition and mood, and less on his technique. Later, Silmarillion shortened its name to Marillion. Rothery is the only member of Marillion's founding lineup who remains in the band to this day. He is considered a Guitar god
Huh? Rothery is not the only original member left. Mark Kelly and Pete Trewavas were the original keyboardist & bassist, respectively, for Marillion and are still with them.
still waiting for that ..one fine day :(
