@xXFallenKinghtXx I believe you can... Not sure about the ohm rating though as I don't own this amp anymore. Hopefully someone will chip in with more info or there may be details on the line 6 website.
@xXFallenKinghtXx yes you can. I have mine connected to a marshal 1960 cab in stereo and it sounds even better. You can also use the direct out jacks on the back to record or to connect directly to a PA system when gigging.
@Dogslow I've been very disappointed with the Marshall stuff recently. Every amp i've owned by Marshall has had issues. The Vox Valvetronic amps are pretty nice. You can get some good sounds from them.. Some of the Marshall solid state / modelling amps sound a bit sterile. Maybe it's just bad luck on my part.
If you're happy with the Flextone stick with it. Solid build and decent sounds. Not perfect by any stretch, but then no amp is.
@raquel1234ful For the money it was a great amp. Lots of great sounds, powerful enough for most gigging situations, built like a tank. Have you seen the price of the new high end Line 6 amps?!?! Makes this seem like a bargain!
Having said that, once I was out of the gigging scene, it was too much for a 'bedroom' amp.
I'm using a 5 watt Laney Lionheart now. Not as flexible sound wise, but the sounds that do come out of it are on another planet!!!
@MikeGarveyBlues .. And that's the trade off. Digital modelling and SS amps still aren't as good as a good quality tube amp. They're getting close... And the average guy at your gig probably couldn't tell the difference between them.
However, with digital modelling amps and SS, you get reliability, a bigger choice of tones, cheaper, lighter....
after listening to "you" with the backing track, then hearing you on the demo, I know one thing for sure is thats not you playing with the backing track..................you dont have to lie to hang out
What makes you think it isn't me playing over that backing track?
The only difference between the audio for the playing over the track and the rest of the demo is that the guitar was eq'ed in a DAW so it sat with the track correctly, whereas the demo is just the amp recorded with a cheap video camera with no eq'ing.
@MikeGarveyBlues Just watched the vid again for the first time in a while... If you listen closely enough you can actually hear the acoustic sound of the strings being picked up by the cam mic along with the amp which was on low as it distorted the cam mic any higher.
@benjammin88007 I had a similar problem when I ran my Boss GT-10 into it. I think part of the problem is you're running a modeller into a modelling amp.
The best option may be to choose the most clean and transparent amp model and set a flat eq. If there's an fx return then plug into that if you want to use the pedals amp models if it has them.
@MikeGarveyBlues yeah that makes sense what amp model would you suggest? and a flat EQ is the knobs turned all the way down not in the middle correct?
@benjammin8807 The Blackface Lux (If I remember) may be the best but you'll need to experiment.
Every amp has a unique eq voicing so it's next to impossible to get a true flat eq. My understanding is that 12 o'clock or midway is approximately a flat eq. Probably best to roll off some more bass on that amp though... maybe to a quarter or 9 o'clock.
The best amps to use with modellers are straight power amps going to a cab or something like a keyboard amp.
I just got this exact same model off ebay, and I have to say i don't think the celestion speakers do the amp justice. I played with headphones on and got some much like-able tones as opposed to the speakers. They sound muddy, and the mids don't come through. But maybe it's just me, what are your suggestions?
Override the Cab Modeling by holding the amp model button down and turning it(the light will be green). Turn it to Line 6 Clean and the cab modeling will be off. I found the speakers to be very clear after. I use the Hiwatt amp model and man, it sounds pretty damn close to my Fender Twin cleans! Also don't engage the compressor, less IS more when finding your sound w/ this amp
yes truly a great amp if you can get your hands on one I would recommend it to anybody who is looking to try out different tones easy to use and if you have a FBV foot controllers only will make the experience more enjoyable
I bought this amp because of the great sounds you get from it at low volume, I don´t think I go past 3 on the volume(I have the 40w), makes it perfect for home practice ! I´ve had some expensive fender and marshall amps 40 watts, The problem there is that you have to crank it really loud to get the nice tones. This amp is actually a good compromise
@prsguy14 It's made for all types of music which is it's strongest and weakest points. It does everything from clean jazzy tones to full on hi gain metal. It does them all very well. Does it do it as good as an amp dedicated to a particular style... Probably not. Most people wouldn't know if it sounded exactly like a Marshall or Mesa, nor would they care. You'll have to let your ears decide.
Hey I have one and made a panel for the back of the amp to close it up and it sounds much tighter and the bass doesn't flub at hi volumes. Plus 1 now for the closed back flextone III xl!!!!
@SuperDjspawn Might be worth cutting a small round hole in the back to let some air escape. My Marshall has a closed back but I find it makes it sound boxy. Depends on the amp I suppose.
Some people say that a 'digital' amp doesn't cut through the rest of the band. This is untrue. What usually happens is people set up a nice sound at home at low levels with more bass and treble and a reduced midrange... This sounds good at low levels. At gig level you need to do the opposite and whack the mids up as it's the mids that cut through.
This has all the ins / outs, amp models, volume (150watts!!!) and build quality you could want. Get one :)
Are these collectable since they stopped making them? I never got why the likes of Marshall, Fender and Mesa allowed their amps to be modelled. It's the best amp for the money I ever bought, and I own a few of the real amps moded.
@Gonzoidz It's a great amp but I suspect it won't be that collectable. Mind you, who knows for sure... 20 years down the line... If people think it was unique in the modelling amp world then it could be. Just depends on if it stood out compared to all the other modelling products from the past 10 - 15 years.
i was thinking about getting one of these amps, they sound great! but i can't seem to find them anymore. do you have any idea where i could get a new one?
hi dude ive just got one of these and ive been trying to get a nice fat strat blues tone similar to stevie ray vaughan but thers that many settings i dont no were to start . i live in an apartment so i cant play with all the settings for long before pissing the neighbours off so i was hoping you could give me a head start on maybe amp modells and e.q settings .maybe you stummbled across a cool tone i could use . i have the fbv shortboard and i use a strat. i would be entirely gratefull
I'd recommend the Blackface Lux Model as a starting point for SRV tones. Make sure you've got at least guage 10 strings on your Strat as 9's just won't cut it for that thick SRV tone.
Get an Ibanez Tubescreamer pedal (TS-9 or TS-10) which SRV used extensively as a boost for solo's.
Turn the amps volume up high but use yor master volume on the right to control overall volume. You can get great tones even at a very low volume using the master volume control.
Can't recommend exact eq settings but i'd say reduce the bass as the Flextone is very bass heavy and boost the mids and treble and add reverb to suit.
@TheRise123 For an authentic stevie sound download the vibroverb 63 emulation and overwrite the patch you never use. Sounds pretty close for no money. the cornford emulation is excellent too.
There are a number of amp models that can be selected that range from clean, crunch, overdrive, and distortion. You can tweak these to get the sound you want and save that as a patch to one of 4 channels.

How does this amp compare to the Peavey Vypyr Tube 60 or 120 combos. I plugged into a Vypyr tube and it sounded really nice. Never plugged into a Flextone before. My buddy gigs with the Flextone in his band.
Yep. You can dial in a plain clean amp model and adjust the eq to taste. All reverbs and fx are seperate so you can dial them in or out however you please. You can save patches on the amp itself, so you could have a 'dry' clean and a more 'wet' clean if you needed it.
Do you have a favourite distortion pedal you use or do you prefer to plug straight into the amp?
If you have a fav pedal then take it with you to see how it sounds with the various amp models on offer.
This amp (And the plain 75watt version) are pretty damned loud with plenty headroom so there shouldn't be any problems with the speakers farting out on you at gig level!
"MikeGarveyBlues"i cant thank you enough for your help..
i like to plug straight into the amp so i am also thinking about trying the 40W spider valve 212 although many reviews on the web target at the low (not sound) quality.
I'd say so, though you'd want to run your favourite distortion pedals into it perhaps if you find it doesn't have enough 'grit'.
Having said that, i'm from a blues rock background and this amp has enough in it for that. Whether it has enough distortion for metal is a personal thing. You'd need to try one out to be 100% sure.
@exploit84 yes the boogie triple rec emulation will kill rhinos up full, too metal for me but this will do absiolutely anything and sounds great at house levels too.
You only have to listen to this demo from 5.39 to realise that either your ears are full of wax or you had already made your mind up without listening. Listen to arlo west playing through one too. ive had two, i`m looking for another one AND they are very, very good at everything. I got brilliant fender cleans and warm blues sounds with a little tweaking, it rocks and will take the windows out. When I get the next one i`ll upload a demo to show you.
@GretschGod you need to listen to one and not what some stupid kid has told you. ive had one next to a 1970 pro reverb and you cant tell the difference.

klpinvestments 2 years ago
@klpinvestments I've never played through the Vypyr so can't be definitive but I expect it should sound very dynamic and musical with the tube.
Let your ears be the best judge. try and plug your gear into your friends amp and then the vypyr and see which one sounds right for you.
I will say that the Flextone is built rock solid and has great amp / fx models but will lack real tube warmth, tough it comes close.
Check out the Vox modelling / tube amps too.
