Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, since I'm just starting to teach myself theory, but is the chord progression 5 bars of 11/8, 1 of 13/8, then 2 more of 11/8?
@HectorOnDrums I can hear that, but doesn't thinking of (3/4,5/8) as 11/8 create a more uniform pulse? Or do complex time signatures always have to be broken down if they can contain simpler fragments?
@HectorOnDrums Well, starting from the beginning and keeping a pulse of 8th notes, I can count 11/8;11/8;11/8;13/8;11/8;11/8;11/8;11/8..then starts the progression at :26 I mentioned earlier of 11/8;11/8;11/8;11/8;11/8;13/8;11/8;11/8, however I realize doing it this way leads to a lot of syncopation, much more so than counting your way. Maybe it's because I'm not a drummer, but I'm just finding it hard to count without an even pulse.
@Archetupon may I make a slight recommendation sir? As an avid lover of all types of music, for this it helps to set up a beat of 4/4 and just play with syncopations. While you get comfortable with that try tabbing some of the things you create. Listening will always make you a better player as well! Peace!
It's not only the 11/8 that makes me love this.. but just.. It's so full of hope. It's like we have everything that we need right inside of us. We are all the projectile.
@MyEggIsBoiled it really is, i absolutely love the build in the chord progression... i's almost like a joruney that never quite ends, and the "positive" vibe from the chords gives one the illusion of hope. truly amazing. chills every time
@nabim123 well i guess not really different, just the drums have been remastered and sound different and the guitar too... i guess the song's the same tho
I listen to this while i eat, shit, fuck, shower, masterbait, skate, drive, smoke the dank nugs, drink the dank drinks, trip the great trip, and while im slurpin on some wet pussy :D
what i love about this most is that the song is based of of a single central riff and is expanded from there. that's what makes this song truly beautiful to me.

Is the album art supposed to be a self portrait of him with a beard? Because it kind of looks like him, and I know he usually does a lot of his own art and stuff right?
I think this is "A hymn to the projectile" off A New Heavenly Body (which is a free download on his own website). I thought i was going insane having these crazy thoughts listening to this and then realized you all do to haha.
for your listening convenience i've broken the song down: i think its right let me know if not.
section one is in 6/8 to 5/8
section two is in 11-8, the very last measure in 10/8
section three (heavy part) goes 2 repeats 6/8, 5/8 for each chord change except the third change which is 6/8 5/8 then 6/8 7/8 (its weird sounding youll see). the last part of the chord change is 6/8 5/8 6/8 5/8. section four (djenty part) is... in 9/8.
When I skim the comments in math metal and post-rock videos like these, people always relate the music to one other powerful force: God. As a Christian (go on, troll me) I think this serves the purpose of worship music much better than contemporary Christian rock does. If you follow any theistic faith, listen to this music and imagine with it the awesome might of an infinitely powerful deity. Then listen to Jakob and imagine that same deity's grace and calm in the universe.
@suckmynose000 why couldnt u put vocals on a song like this. A good vocalist with a clean vocals style like Devin Townsend's would make this music even better. And even if u disagree u dont have to insult me...
@PanagosGr33kG134EVER Some vocals could do this song justice, but it would probably throw off the balance. The guitars are essential to the overall song. The vocals would be drowned out completely, in my opinion. Or you'd have one loud vocal track trying to drown out the guitars, which would just ruin the melody. @Archetupon yeah, I agree it could be possible to count 11/8, but in my opinion, the riff was easier to cut (on a drummer pov) on 3/4.
How would you count in you way the part from 0:13 to 0:26?
BTW, I wrote a 17/16 time signature for the break at 3:36 ... it was hell to write!
